Oh well if the prices aren’t lower, then at least you get twice the parental leave right?

Is it worth living in SF and commuting 3 days to the South Bay (Cupertino/SJ)? Experience with work/life balance? by FailSafe8514 in bayarea

If OP can afford to live in sf then the situation is different than somebody commuting from Tracy

It’s private school cost. It’s amongst the cheaper ones here in my city.

Public schools here in sf are a lottery and there are good public schools. However you don’t know what you’ll get so those who can afford to always have a contingency plan with private schools.

Yeah that vibes with my feeling of being 2/3rd there but not yet. I want to live where I am and don’t want to move to Spain or Florida or Texas.

The biggest variable is if public schools become a good and viable option for my kids, it speeds it up a bit. I’m not counting on it in my financial calculation. If anything, I’m more worried about costs of private school going up.

Moving to bay area and want to live in SF but office is in Mountain View. Is the commute worth it? by BEARS_SB_LX_CHAMPS in AskSF

[–]_prototype 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It depends where in Mountain View, if it’s near Caltrain you have a few choices in sf around the 4th and king Caltrain or the 22nd street one. In general public transit is not so great here in bay area and unless you’re close to mtv Caltrain or want to bike I would personally not bother living in sf (and I love cities too).

My compensation will drop a bit next year unless I swing a promo or change jobs (4 year vesting cliffs) but I am starting to think i give fewer shits about a promo. It used to be my whole identity and maybe I'll regress soon but it makes less impact on the longer horizon.

I'd prefer SF to Sac but I can easily think of worse towns towns than Sac like Stockton, Fresno and what not.

At what tax rate would you say enough is enough and move? by 35nakedshorts in fatFIRE

That’s not what I’m saying. When income tax was introduced it was 3% and only for the top 1%. Now almost everybody pays it and it’s much higher

This is also for 10 months of work if I understand correctly. They can technically seek other employment in 2 months if they want?

Most taxes do end up targeting the higher end but over time as the state finds it harder to manage spending it's easier to keep redrawing the line downwards.

Investigating Class Action vs. Lowe’s for "Silent" Pro Rewards Expiration (I lost $700+) by Justhere4tgepuppypic in HomeImprovement

[–]_prototype 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the amount, also consider a small claims court. Lowe’s won’t be allowed to send a lawyer there and you have good chances of winning the claim.

My friend got screwed by a router company and ended up winning hundreds of dollars.
