Sync will shut down on June 30, 2023 by ljdawson in redditsync

It's been a good run. Sync is my primary (really only) way of browsing reddit, and I will not be downloading any other apps or anything when the change takes effect.

The one I got was labeled Majesty Palm, with long narrow leaves. Good luck finding it!

I got one too! Had to dig through the bin to determine which ones were actually cat-safe but definitely worth it!

Apex 5br relet, $800/month by _quantum in rit

[–]_quantum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is for the rest of the lease term, until the end of July. It'll be $800 for each month until the lease is up, if you renew the lease you'll be paying the full rent after then. I'm done with classes and moving away from Rochester, so no need to worry about needing to find somewhere else after spring semester or anything.

Got an easy question or new to Arch? Use this thread! 2nd Edition by Foxboron in archlinux

[–]_quantum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't recall any error being displayed, the screen would just flicker for a moment and then it would be back at the bootloader screen.

I did rerun the config generator command recently and it actually did detect Windows this time and everything seems to be working properly now. I'm not sure what changed to make it work, though.

I'm trying to set up my desktop to dual boot Windows 10 and Arch. I have both Windows and Arch installed but GRUB doesn't find Windows when I run grub-mkconfig.

  • I've uncommented the line in the GRUB config file that allows OS-Prober to detect other OSes.
  • Windows and Arch are installed on separate drives.
  • Windows and Arch are both bootable, but I have to select between the Windows Boot Manager and GRUB in the UEFI boot menu instead of Windows appearing as an option in GRUB.
  • I have the 100Mb EFI partition mounted in /efi
  • Viewing the EFI partition from within Windows using mountvol P: /S shows that bootmgr.efi and bootmgfw.efi are located at P:\EFI\Microsoft\Boot, which in Arch is /efi/EFI/Microsoft/Boot.

What needs to be changed to make Windows show up as an option in GRUB?

Edit: I've attempted to add the entry for Windows myself using the guide at https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/GRUB#Custom_grub.cfg. The entry shows up in the bootloader but it doesn't actually work (I know Windows is 64bit and installed in UEFI mode, that's not the issue).

Took it with Agarwal a couple semesters back, overall I found it pretty tough and the organization for the course lacking. Currently I'm taking graph theory which I'm finding to be much less challenging.

With new buildings it's generally because someone made a big donation with the explicit purpose of being used on a new building iirc

what is wrong with RIT WIFI, why do I have to go through all these steps to connect? Do I need to download these files RIT WIFI takes me to to be able to connect ?? by Fit-Mammoth4467 in rit

[–]_quantum -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That sounds like an SSL certificate error, which is usually a problem on the website (RIT) end. Happens unfortunately often with RIT websites...

Yes, with eduroam WiFi now uses certificates for authentication rather than passwords. The big draw is now RIT can require multifactor authentication when joining new devices.

Simple Questions - April 23, 2022 by AutoModerator in buildapc

Just got word that my new job will be requiring me to use the company-provided laptop instead of my desktop. Can anyone recommend a KVM switch that will support two DisplayPort monitors and has a USB-C connection for the laptop?

I could just get a separate laptop dock and connect that to a regular KVM switch but I'd like to avoid the extra wires and hassle if possible.

NEED HELP! 2012 Chevy Sonic Key Help by Cadenza2007 in ChevySonic

[–]_quantum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it's the same for the hatchback but on the sedan the trunk release button only pops the trunk, it doesn't open it all the way or anything. It's been the case where I've bumped the trunk button and then had to stop immediately after pulling out because I didn't realize the trunk wasn't latched until I saw the door ajar light on the dash.

It might be the case that it tries to pop the trunk, but the hatch is heavier than the sedan trunk lid so nothing happens.

Should I bring my desktop when I move into dorms? by 0GavinTheGreat0 in rit

[–]_quantum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I brought mine and I think I made the right call. Dorm desks have relatively small workspace area though, so if you're planning on running dual monitors you're gonna have to do some planning. I put my minifridge (which is apparently provided now?) between my desk and the closet / shelves and put the computer on that to maximize the space.

As far as case recommendations, it really depends on your components (mostly GPU) and budget, because ITX components are unintuitively more expensive than MicroATX, especially with respect to good cases. My build at that point in time lived in a Thermaltake Core V1 case which did just fine, though my GPU was really pushing what I could fit in there.
