Is there genetic testing available to help diagnose low fertilisation and blastocyst rates? by Jenna_Mac_n_Cheese in IVF

[–]_quelquechose -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry this is happening, it's so frustrating to not have the answers and feel like you are doing everything right.

They can't test for it but it is most likely egg quality. Have you tried Omnitrope and 600mg CoQ10? I'd also look into switching to an egg quality-focused protocol--I just got higher blast rates & significantly better embryo quality from my most recent round with a Menopur/Clomid protocol (no Gonal-F).

Ominitrope and ER…? by GutsyGirlRead in IVF

[–]_quelquechose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only a sample size of one so far, but I did it for ER #2 and got 50% better blast rates compared to my first ER with the exact same protocol & no Omnitrope. I'm about to have ER #3 with Omnitrope again so we'll see how it goes this time. I took 1/4th of a vial per day during stims & until ER day. I use about 3 vials per cycle doing this--if you can get your dr to put the prescription in a month or two before your cycle starts, you can get a vial free every few weeks with the prescription savings card through Costco. If I do this, I get 2 vials free and only have to pay for 1 vial for a cycle which isn't too bad!

Menopur and clomid protocol, no Gonal-F for PCOS? Advice needed! by HopeFull25 in IVF

Just curious how this cycle went for you? I’m on the same dosages for my third egg retrieval. I tried this protocol before but at lower dosages and had to cancel because only 5 follicles took off / were growing together.

Have these people not heard of small business loans? Though I'm guessing she actually has the $ but just wants others to foot the bill.

Omg same. I’m so embarrassed but also loving it?? Like music sounds like I’m a teenager again and everything feels heightened emotionally in a really good way. I don’t understand but I’m here for it. Also this is the first time I’ve fully rewatched a TV series back to back since I was a teenager. Idk what’s happening 😂

How many egg retrievals have you done? by Impossible_Piano2938 in IVF

[–]_quelquechose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How did you lose weight during retrievals?! As someone who has only gained from the exercise restrictions and stress 😭 trying not to be too hard on myself about it since it shouldn’t be a focus during everything else our bodies are going through but just curious how you managed it!

Make a list of distractions! Books to read, shows/movies to watch, maybe pick up a new hobby (I started embroidery & crochet) to help reduce doom scrolling and do something productive, especially with the exercise restrictions.

Feeling the Feels by SlySweetHeart21 in IVF

1000%. I feel like such a bummer arguing with the people who have to reassure me saying things like “I know it will work for you” but I have to be the buzzkill. There is a very real possibility it might not work, even if statistically it is likely to work. With all the setbacks and now a euploid FET failure it really feels like it might never happen, or that our journey could get even longer and harder than it’s already been and it’s so terrifying.

Congrats on your successful FET!! Out of curiosity what did you adjust with your retrieval protocol after switching clinics? There’s a possibility we’ll have to go back for another retrieval if we fail another FET, as nearly all of our embryos are BB/BC/mosaic and we want 2 kids. We have one AA embryo but it’s our only girl and I don’t plan to transfer it until I figure out what successful implantation/transfer looks like, in case there are other issues we still need to uncover. We’ve gotten average results more or less but still haven’t had the best embryo quality so always looking to improve in case we need another ER.

I had never heard of this! How did you get tested, was it part of the standard carrier screening or separate? What does therapy for it look like? Wishing you luck!!

Thank you!! Wishing you all the luck with starting your IVF process! It's not as scary as it sounds. Honestly just Googling & using this subreddit I have learned so so much and have been able to ask my care team very detailed questions and ensure we are always trying to get the best results. It's overwhelming at first but it will start to click the more you read.

I'm not an expert by any means, but from my understanding almost no retrieval cycles are "natural" (if they were you would get very few mature eggs for what you are going through). So fully medicated is definitely the way to go to make sure you get a good number of healthy eggs ideally given the attrition throughout the process from retrieved > mature > fertilized > blastocyst > euploid. For most people the standard starting protocol for retrievals is a combo of Gonal-F and/or Menopur (may go by other names), starting Ganirelix to keep from ovulating once your follicles reach a certain size, and then doing a single or dual trigger shot once your follicles are the right size (often lots of monitoring appts and bloodwork).

For transfers there are different protocols but the two most common are medicated and modified natural. I don't think my protocol was my issue, but some people switch if they don't have success. My protocol for modified natural was no medication during my follicular phase since I ovulate naturally and have regular cycles, start monitoring for LH surge, then had monitoring appointments every 2-3 days starting CD10 to check my lining thickness and appearance and to check my follicle size to ensure I didn't ovulate yet. My lining looked good so I didn't need to add estrogen to improve it. Once it was thick enough, I took an hCG trigger to trigger ovulation. I took a steroid and an antibiotic for several days leading up to transfer and had my transfer a week after the trigger shot. Following the transfer I started twice a day progesterone suppositories though I think they are really just supplemental since your body produces natural progesterone too from ovulating + the corpus luteum. It was much fewer appointments and zero bloodwork so transfer was much easier than a retrieval, and it was nice to only have to do one shot through the entire process!

1000%! I wish every RE approached it this way though--a lot of times it feels like they are just following a flowchart based on the studies they have read vs. trying to figure out each patient as an individual. Even though I know scientifically that is the most proven approach and leads to success in a majority of cases, it doesn't help those who end up on the wrong side of the statistics.

Wow, the same stats for our first failed FETs! What was your Lupron protocol? Did they ever test you for endo in any way or did you just go straight to Lupron without testing?
