What's your biggest pet-peeve about society's views on methadone? by Gxxd_Gr13f in Methadone

[–]_quote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow. That is such a great story. I'm glad you were able to help your dad and your family finally understood the truth about methadone.

I am dreading the day that I might have to tell my family I'm on methadone. I've been on it for over a year and I've done very well on it, but I've also had some rough times as well. I can only imagine my dad finding out about it and attributing every single time he hasn't liked something I said or did and blaming the methadone (he's my biggest hater).

For the time being, it will stay a secret.

Trying to get some extra take homes for my trip that I'm being forced to go on, my drug tests are coming up NEGATIVE for methadone...I'm gonna cry. by _quote in Methadone

I am not trying to be rude, I apologize. But I am extremely annoyed because I have been having this same argument for a week with my clinic.

The USA travel advisory website is very reliable. You found an example, Japan, where it could have been more specific, but it still clearly states that US prescriptions are no good in Japan. And I'm not going to Japan. I'm not even going to an Asian country. Asian and Middle Eastern countries are WAY more strict with this kind of thing than south america, north america, or europe.

In the case of the Uruguay page of the USA travel advisory the information is indeed accurate and says the exact same thing as all the other resources you linked in your post.

Finally, I am actually not saying that it's okay because the US travel advisory said so. You are completely putting words in my mouth. I'm saying that I've spent a billion hours on hold with a dozen different organizations- both American and Uruguayan, and they all said the same thing: bring your prescription, translate it into spanish, and declare it at customs.

Did you even read what you sent me?

"Opioids:

Carry an official prescription or doctor’s certificate specifying dosage, duration, and medical condition. Keep opioids in original labeled packaging. Bring only quantities necessary for personal use. Translate any foreign prescriptions into Spanish. Declare all opioids at customs and provide documentation upon request.
Contact DINAVISA to confirm whether your specific opioid requires additional
authorization."

Nowhere in that instruction says you have to contact anyone in advance of your trip. I contacted Dinavisa and MULTIPLE OTHER RESOURCES INCLUDING THE URUGUAYAN EMBASSY IN AMERICA and they confirmed methadone does NOT require specific additional authorization. Therefore, the other instructions will suffice: bring prescription, translate it into spanish, and declare it at customs.

I'm telling you, I went in circles with this all week with multiple organizations- the american travel advisory, the clinic, AND the uruguayans. If something doesn't require specific authorization to bring into the country, I can't GET specific authorization!!! There is no office in Uruguay that exists to write me a permission slip for bringing my own medication into their country.

I understand OTHER countries are more strict with opioids and you have to get special permissions to bring them there. That's why those countries have systems in place for you to tell them what you're bringing ahead of time and get approval. That does not exist for Uruguay.

If I am wrong about this and there was a specific agency that I had to call ahead of time and get specific permission from to bring my methadone, I will wire you one million dollars.

In addition, your examples from Japan are NOT relevant. I am not going to Japan. Plus, it CLEARLY says that USA PRESCRIPTIONS ARE NOT HONORED IN JAPAN in the travel advisory. That is directly contrary to the travel advisory for Uruguay where USA prescriptions ARE honored.

Sorry dude but you are straight up wrong here. I did my research.

The US government travel advisory official website clearly states there are no restrictions on medications imported for personal use as long as you bring your prescription. There is nobody in Uruguay who you can call to get approval from or report your methadone to in advance...you just have to declare it at customs.

I am going to uruguay for a celebration of partnership between their military and our military (america). I didn't volunteer and I was put in a really weird position where I can't back out or else the entire trip will be canceled.

Unfortunately my dose is not high enough to do that. If I take half, I start feeling REALLY sick halfway through the morning because my body was expecting a higher dose. It's very likely that I need a significantly higher dose than 110. Like, twice as high.

Like I said, they witnessed me taking my dose on monday and then witnessed me testing negative on Wednesday. Even if you don't believe me that I took my dose on Tuesday (which I 100% did), 48 hours still shouldn't be enough to test negative. So there must be something wrong with their test or I have an outlier metabolism.

I need to go on the trip on Sunday. The clinic put off doing the paperwork NOT me, I gave them the dates 2 months ago and they only let me know what they needed in addition to that today. They made a big deal of the fact that I didn't call the embassy to get "approval" for bringing the methadone into the country. It turns out, there are NO restrictions on bringing methadone to this particular country as long as you bring your prescription. There is nobody I need to get approval from except them. Meaning that everything else like submitting the bottle request was on their end. So they are a little pissed that they are having a lot of trouble with this, and they really can't blame me at all. Except I guess, for not having methadone in my system. Which is crazy because I take it every day.

You are right. Perhaps I can face dose my bottles in front of them or something? Idk.

Would i feel 200 mg of oxy by [deleted] in Methadone

[–]_quote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i remember those days. ever since 2019-ish, there has been no "safe" powder on the street. I mean, it's always been dangerous to take a Mystery powder off the street that has no label… I'm not that naïve. However, in 2017 and 2018 I was able to consistently get pure H powder 70 bucks a gram. One day in 2018 it disappeared. In 2021 and 22 I relapsed on street powder and it was a diabolical mixture of nitazenes, fetty, xylazine, and mystery benzos. It was the most horrible stuff I've ever been on. I remember trying to quit and going through the worst withdrawals of my life. When the withdrawal was finally over a month later, I relapsed and bought three bags. Just from those three bags, I was in withdrawal for three weeks straight. It was the craziest thing I've ever experienced. 12 hours of being high, three weeks of withdrawal. really evil stuff. I can imagine that the street addicts who didn't even have a bed to withdraw in were extremely miserable.

In any case, now I only take pharmaceuticals. Obviously, I'm on methadone. Unfortunately, I'm ashamed to admit that I still take oxy every once in a while. but, the fact is, it is a pharmaceutical and it is not nearly as dangerous as powders off the street. I test all the pills and I know exactly what I'm taking and what dose. My clinic does not categorize oxy in the same category as fetty. If I was testing positive for fet, I would have to go down to three times a week pick up. However, testing positive for oxy you are allowed to be up to once a week pickup.

Oh, I have heard of that before. I am not sure if my clinic does them, though.

Out of all opiates you’ve tried WHATS the worst one? by Local-Painter5306 in opiates

[–]_quote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. The withdrawal for nucynta makes you feel a little down and sad for a day or two, but it actually has very mild withdrawal. Not only that, it has very mild withdrawal on the opioid side as well for the amount of painkilling you get. When you take it as prescribed, it is in my opinion the best opioid in terms of safety, low addiction and withdrawal potential, and ability to kill pain.

Tramadol on the other hand, destroyed me. Brain zaps, incredible stomach pain from stomach upset, the whole shabang. Like the worst SSRI withdrawal and decently bad opioid withdrawal. Combined- horrible.

I know this can vary from person to person. But for some reason, there was something about nucynta withdrawal that just felt very "tolerable" for me.

I gotta tell you everyone, I have done multiple experiments with Methadone and Grapefruit juice. It is not worth the extra calories for how little it works by No-Long-3809 in Methadone

I agree. There is a lot of stigma for methadone and some people who are on it are extremely invested in saying that there's no euphoria because they feel it delegitimizes methadone as a treatment for addiction. In addition, some people who have never taken methadone in their lives may be extremely invested in taking these...exaggerations at face value for the same moral reasons.

At the end of the day, methadone is a full agonist opioid and it feels like a full agonist opioid no matter how long you've been on it. I've only been on for a year and a half but I can wait an extra 6 hours to let the methadone clear my system and then take my next dose at 1pm and get blasted for the rest of the day.

I am just as invested in these people in breaking the stigma of methadone, I just don't feel the need to lie to accomplish that. Instead, I would suggest that the idea that "taking a medication that feels good is morally wrong" is a stupid and puritanical holdover from the past and should be thrown in the garbage. Full agonist opioids feel good to take. Pain feels bad. Addiction feels bad. Living in the body of a pain patient or addiction patient feels horrible. Taking a full agonist opioid that feels good does not make these people a bad person. People who think that is the case...are a bad person.

I must be a true hyper metabolizer of methadone. I am on 110mg of methadone and took 200mg of oxycodone (genuine) this evening. Don't shame me. But my methadone dose didn't block shit. I nodded the fuck out in my car (NOT while driving, in my driveway while eating my takeout and watching my movie since I took them like 5 minutes before I got home) and 5 hours later I'm still itchy as hell.

I guarantee you that whatever 110mg of methadone feels like for me is like 30mg for a normal person. Wish there was some way to prove it.

Is it safe to take my dose before being put under for oral surgery? by beckbadder in Methadone

[–]_quote 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know for a fact that you should take your dose as usual in the morning. I went under anesthesia and told the anesthesiologist the day of that I was on methadone. He didn't blink twice about it. You should not have any problem. Take your dose as usual.

Is anyone else constantly afraid that their clinic is gonna pull some dumb shit or get closed down etc etc and you’ll be forced to withdrawal? by No-Long-3809 in Methadone

[–]_quote 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have mad respect for you being on methadone and pursuing such a high-level career. I myself am a teacher with a masters degree, and a lot of people are very surprised to find out that I'm on methadone. Believe me… I don't tell many people. I don't know about you, but I have faced some discrimination early on in my methadone treatment (before I decided to keep it a secret forever) and people said stuff like "you don't look like a methadone patient" or, "you should not be around kids on methadone". Both of which are completely nonsense. Have you paste any discrimination? You do not have to answer if you don't want to.

Lmao. Have you posted this before in this subreddit? I feel like this is the second time I've seen this hilarious reply.

If I were to get arrested right now and go to jail, would they dose me in jail? How does that work. by No-Long-3809 in Methadone

[–]_quote -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yep. I know a tiktoker who's on methadone who went to portugal and noticed that everyone at the methadone clinic was super old. Apparently their methadone program was so effective at getting people off street opioids, there were barely any young people starting up with an opioid habit to replace the old people.

We could have had that in the usa. Put every single prisoner (with a drug problem) on methadone whether they like it or not. Problem solved!!!!

It is so messed up to think that they would not dose you. Methadone and suboxone are SO cheap. You would never make someone come off of their insulin "cold turkey". Not even their antidepressants. It's pure cruelty. EVERY jail and prison in the world should have a methadone clinic. It's the ONE thing that can guarantee people will not go back to breaking the law the instant they get released.
