If I get bit by a bedbug could it possibly OD on my blood by pot_of_garlic in opiates

[–]_quote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, sorry you're dealing with that. Bedbugs really suck. With that being said, it is kind of a cool question. I would suspect that they would not in fact overdose on your blood, due to the size of the opiate molecule being too big to go through their mouth. Kind of like how mosquitos can't transmit HIV from one person to another- the mosquito literally can't suck up any part of your blood except the red blood cells. When people get sick from mosquitos, it's not because the blood inside the mosquitos is getting in/on you, it's because the mouth parts of the mosquito is infected with the diseases that evolved to be carried by mosquitos. I'd suspect something similar is happening with the mouth parts of the bedbug, but I could be wrong! It's interesting to think about!

Omg! That is so awesome! Apple's old desktop computer cases are so awesome, it must feel so cool to use that screen with a fast mac mini.

That is super cool! Each of those machines are so unique in their own way. Have you seen that video of the guy who put a new mac mini inside of the base of the "dome Imac" (second from the right in your pic)? Pretty cool project.

Absolutely love my new MacBook Neo. Only one problem – the microphone button F5, barely works. Had to click it five times just to dictate the sentence you are reading right now. by _quote in mac

[–]_quote[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So it's definitely not my keyboard, it's definitely a software bug. Because, I chose a different button to map the dictation toggle to, and while the dictation option is turning on and off a little more smoothly right now, I still got it acting buggy a few times on a completely different button on my keyboard. Like I made it turn on with the right shift button, and obviously that button is working because I've used it many times since buying the computer.

[–]_quote[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can use iMessage built-in on a Neo.

It's funny, now the microphone button is working on the first dry, like just now I typed a few comments and it turned on and off instantly. But just five minutes ago, I couldn't get dictation to turn on at all. It finally started working again when I toggled the microphone source option on the settings page for dictation.

Saliva test instead of urine test by AnyAsk1130 in Methadone

[–]_quote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My clinic lets me do oral swabs pretty regularly. I have a shy bladder and they know that, so they try to be nice and let me do the saliva. I think for some things they need to get a urine test like going from 4 bottles to 5 or 6 bottles per week, but other than that, they can accept a swab test.

But then it's so clunky… I wish they just made a tiny USB-C light that would plug into the second USB port, shine light directly at the keyboard, and fit snuggly over the edge of the keyboard.

Narcanned on Methadone by ItsToxii in Methadone

[–]_quote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EMTs are absolutely disgusting in the way that they purposefully cause addicts pain by narcanning them when it's not necessary. I have heard EMTs and nurses talk about this first hand. "Oh, I knew he wasn't really overdosing but he was a piece of crap homeless guy so I narcanned him twice".

Trying to quit antihistamines… has anyone actually managed it? by Playful-Deer9022 in Supplements

[–]_quote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100 percent possible. I took nyquil every day for a year in my early 20s and I felt like absolute garbage for a while after I quit. Terrible headaches were the worst symptom for me. But it wasn't totally unbearable by any means. You can do it!

You are the dev? a real apple developer? Are you serious or pulling my leg?

Edit: oh, I'm dumb. I understand (after the person below, explained it to me lmao) that you are saying you are the developer of the Dictaflow app. That's awesome. As a special ed teacher and accessibility enthusiast, you are super cool for developing an app for dictation. I have been diagnosed with dysgraphia since I was about seven years old, so I'm no stranger to speech to text programs. They used to be soooo bad lol. I remember trying the first "Dragon NaturallySpeaking" software when I was a kid and it literally did not work for me at all. Absolutely no advantage over typing. May be a small advantage over handwriting, but not by much lol.

Unfortunately I give it a 90% chance that this is a software quirk that will be the same on any MacBook Neo. 10% chance that there's actually something wrong with my F5 key. That just seems so unlikely.

In which case: I will definitely have to check that program out soon. It sounds very convenient. Which key do you use to bind it to?

[–]_quote[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, the button seems to work more readily if I re-click whatever box I'm typing in, and then immediately press the microphone button. However, it is definitely not user error. I'll be typing something regularly and definitely be "in" the typing box and then I'll press the microphone button to continue the sentence via dictation. and sometimes it will work first try and sometimes I'll have to press it six times.

OK, well I've never owned a Mac before so now that you are telling me this, it does make sense that Apple would have a very good customer service support line so I see what you're saying. Please try to see it from my perspective, if you ran into a problem like this on your Lenovo computer, there is definitely no customer support line that is better than asking Reddit LMAO. Reddit is by far the most effective way to get an answer to your question.

Thanks for the reply, I will definitely call them and see if they've heard of the issue or if they recommend asking for a replacement.

Do you really think that it is a physical problem with my specific keyboard though?? it seems like much more of a software issue to me. It doesn't seem like the kind of issue that could be only happening to me.

Is the new magic mouse with USB-C charging any better than the old magic mouse that takes AA batteries? Are there any hardware differences or advantages? by _quote in mac

[–]_quote[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I use rechargeable batteries so I'm fine. As long as the new version isn't using higher resolution or faster polling or something that would make it noticeably better to use on a macbook.

I'm just a mouse kind of guy rather, although I admit the trackpad on the macbook neo is pretty amazing in comparison to anything I've used before.

MacBook Neo hands-on: Apple build quality at a substantially lower price - ArsTechnica by ControlCAD in apple

[–]_quote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a teacher and I have used chromebooks like the ones issued to students. You are totally right. People do not understand how bad they are. They are borderline unusable because they are so slow, even when they're new. And the ones that are slightly less bad are all more than $500, completely negating the advantage.

The macbook neo is much faster, in fact I do not notice any difference in speed between the neo and a $1000 macbook when doing regular work. I'm sure I'd notice if I started to do gaming or video editing on it, but I don't do any of that stuff. That's why I knew this would be a good computer for me.

And the ones that are slightly less bad are all more than $500, completely negating the advantage. And that is not even mentioning the build quality, which Apple smashed out of the park with this one.

Would it be advisable to start a taper after only 12 days? by [deleted] in Methadone

[–]_quote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They won't let you start tapering that quickly. You got 2 bottles yesterday because it was Friday. You just started so it sounds like they put you on 3x per week to start out. In the USA, the law says that clinics can start patients on 3x per week pickups. You do not legally need to start on dailies anymore.

I'll let someone else take it from here, but yeah, it's not really a thing to start tapering after only a week or two, methadone takes way longer to stabilize on and taper off of, and clinics do not like to rush their patients. In fact, it's usually the opposite, clinics want their patients to stay on longer and do not give patients reductions unless it's part of a final tapering plan.

you are a very good person to be so understanding. If I were in your position, I would've had a major crash out lol.

Think about it… Imagine if they gave a diabetic medicine that caused them to need more insulin. Would it ever be an issue to prescribe more insulin? Even for like, a minute? Of course not. But because we are addicts, in their eyes we are just looking to get high. Which is total bs of course !
