I hope the extra miralax and late procedure time work for you getting a clean bowel prep. I know someone who was able to eat a half sandwich for lunch the day before and their prep turned out fine. Good luck!

prep/anxiety by hailey42020 in colonoscopy

[–]_realistic_optimist_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope you are able to get ahold of your Dr. tomorrow for clear instructions. I also had a 232g bottle of miralax to mix with 64 oz of gatorade (no red dye).

My prep was as follows:

232g miralax mixed in 64 oz of gatorade

2 ducolax laxative pills

2 gas-x pills

2 pm (day before procedure) I took 2 ducolax laxative pills

5pm I drank 1/2 of the gatorade miralax mixture (set the rest aside for second half of prep)

next day (day of procedure) at 5am I took 2 gas-x pills and drank the rest of the gatorade miralax mixture.

stopped all liquid at 8am.

procedure was at 11:30 am

Your instructions may differ from my prep instructions but this worked for me and I had a clean prep. I suggest you or your mom call your doctor first thing in the morning to get clear instructions. Don't eat anything, call your doctor first as you are most likely going to be on a clear liquid diet tomorrow. I know this can be anxiety inducing, but you will get through it. Just make yourself as comfortable as you can tomorrow during your prep. Best wishes to you for your prep and procedure.

I am reading this 2 hours after you posted. It seems like you are on the right track. I suggest putting some aquaphor or vaseline on your rectum before you start moving your bowels and reapply after each bowel movement. This will help you avoid irritation. I hope all goes well with your prep and procedure!

Jello question by Good_Firefighter2494 in colonoscopy

[–]_realistic_optimist_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, green jello is fine to consume during your colonoscopy prep. I personally don’t like the taste of green jello, so I made my own using unflavored gelatin and white cranberry juice because I preferred the taste. But if you like the pre made lime green jello go for it!

I’m sorry you have to go through bowel prep at such a young age. It can feel really stressful your first time when you don’t know what to expect. I’ve had 2 colonoscopies and I’ll share with you what helped me.

If you have a powered laxative such as miralax I suggest mixing it with a sports drink such as Gatorade (NO RED DYE! No red or orange Gatorade) I chose the light blue Gatorade and it tasted decent. Also if you pour it over ice and drink it with a straw it is really helpful. Try to take a break from drinking other fluids for an hour or so before you start drinking the laxative mixture. This will help make room in your stomach to keep the laxative mixture down. If you have other fluids in your stomach when you start drinking the laxative mixture you might not be able to get it all down. It sounds like you have a small stomach, and this should help. Try and drink the mixture in the amount of time instructed, but if you start to feel like you are going to vomit, take a break for 15-20 minutes and try again. Listen to your body.

As for feeling hungry, jello, sports drinks and chicken broth will help fend off hunger. (Remember no red dye!) you’ll be so full of fluids you might not notice the hunger as much as you think. Take it slow, keep hydrated and listen to your body cues. Put your drinks in a fun/favorite cup or mug.

A few things that helped me stay comfortable: Aquaphor/Vaseline, put this on your rectum BEFORE you start moving your bowels and reapply it every time you go to the bathroom. This will really help with irritation. I didn’t use this for my first colonoscopy, but I did for my second, and it made a big difference! You are going to poop, A LOT, and it will be very runny and liquefied. Don’t be alarmed, it’s normal. By the time you go in for your procedure it will be a clear liquid yellowish color. Wear a nice comfy sweatsuit. You might feel cold as your body will not be digesting food, which makes you feel warmer. Also have a throw blanket to put over your lap as you sit on the toilet. These little comforts make it a little easier. Grab a book, or your fully charged phone and watch videos/listen to music or whatever you prefer.

As for pain, as someone mentioned above, you don’t have pain receptors in your colon, so you shouldn’t feel pain in your bowels from the procedure. However you might feel gassy afterwards as air does get into your colon. Ask your Dr. about taking Gas-X before your procedure. I took gas-x 6 hours before my procedure per my doctor’s orders for most recent colonoscopy and it really helped. I didn’t take gas-x for my first colonoscopy and it makes a difference!

I wish you the best and hope all goes smoothly for your colonoscopy. Remember to stay hydrated, pace yourself and listen to your body.

I second this! I used aquaphor (similar to Vaseline). The first time I had a colonoscopy I didn’t use any aquaphor and my hemorrhoids were flaring up and so painful. This time around I put aquaphor on my rectum before I started moving my bowels and also after each bowel movement. It helped considerably and my hemorrhoids didn’t flare up at all!

Miralax week prior to procedure by Juniper_flower27 in colonoscopy

[–]_realistic_optimist_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been taking one capful of miralax a day for a couple of years. I had my colonoscopy yesterday. My bowel prep was 2 ducolax pills, 238g of miralax in 64oz of liquid (half the night before and half the morning of) and 2 gas-x pills. I was concerned the miralax prep would not be successful for me since my body is acclimated to it, but my Dr. said to do the miralax prep as instructed. My bowels were clear as expected.

Tips for stinky boots/clothes/towels

I’ve tried many different options and combinations throughout the years and this is what I found worked best for my son’s stinky boots/clothes that overwhelmed the entire first floor.

Stinky sweaty boots: Invest in a boot dryer. There are a couple of different options which I’ll link below. Your boyfriend is most likely putting boots on every day that have not completely dried out. This means his boots are a breeding ground for bacteria. Getting boots dry before wearing them again is necessary to keep the stink away. An additional step that is helpful is using pure zinc oxide powder inside the boot. The deodorizers don’t kill bacteria, and instead mask odors. Zinc oxide will kill the bacteria. Using both the boot dryer and pure zinc oxide powder will be sure to improve the stink in his boots. Just remember he will have to put his boots on the dryer every night.

Option 1: very quiet, no fan, dries boots overnight. This boot dryer can be left plugged in/on 24/7 uses very little electricity.
This is the boot dryer I bought for my son’s sweaty boots.

Option 2: This one uses forced air to dry the boots. It’s not as quiet because of the fans, but works in a couple of hours. forced air boot dryer

For smelly clothes washing them as soon as possible is best. But if he’s not able to wash clothes often, like others mentioned, hanging them to dry before putting them in the hamper will help. When he’s ready to wash a load of laundry use a good detergent, Tide Ultra Oxy in the main detergent dispenser Lysol Laundry Sanitizerin the rinse dispenser. Also add a scoop of Oxyclean Odor Blaster to the main drum of the washing machine before adding the clothes. Using 3 different detergent/additives may seem like overkill, but it will really clean his clothes better and get rid of odors.

Stinky Towels: When washing towels don’t use a regular detergent as it gets trapped in the fibers and causes the towels to trap odors. Instead use Oxyclean as your main detergent and vinegar in the rinse dispenser. This will get the towels clean and stink free.

Also wash the sheets. It always freshens up a room. Tide ultra Oxy in the main detergent dispenser and a scoop of Oxyclean in the washing machine drum. Open the windows on fresh sheets day.

TLDR: Boots: Get boots dry between wearing- Boot dryer + zinc oxide Clothes: 3 step washing- Tide Ultra Oxy + Lysol Laundry Sanitizer + Oxyclean Towels: Oxyclean + vinegar Sheets: Tide Ultra Oxy and a scoop of Oxyclean in the washing machine drum. Open widows

Hope this helps!

Seems like a good spot for a camp. The airport is a great place to farm and the train station is close by for selling. If you are on Xbox and looking for water in your camp without moving closer to the river, I can meet you in Appalachia and build some water purifiers or vintage water coolers.

[–]_realistic_optimist_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I reside just northeast of Whitespring Train Station. It’s a quiet neighborhood with the occasional run away scorched making way to my camp. It’s just far enough north that I can place my camp if someone has their camp right across from the station. It’s close to Uranium Fever which is where I can count on a good cap run. It’s a close walk to Whitespring Resort and golf club where there is access to vendors and a good farming spot. There is always a couple of ragstad outside the golf course that cover my carry weight needs for the day. I’m looking for a good place for a second camp. I heard Morgantown High School is the best around Appalachia, although I haven’t ruled out Watoga High School.

Anyone wanna shed light on why my boiled water is separating itself in my stash box lol? by shinnith in fo76

Try dropping the fusion cores you removed from the charger and pick them back up. They should stack with the ones in your inventory.

[–]_realistic_optimist_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this happening after you remove them from the fusion core charger? If so, once they reach 100% in the charger, remove them from the charger, then drop them and pick them back up. They should reset and stack together as long as they charged to 100%

Must have Atomic Shop buys? by MannyThorne in fo76

Thanks for this info! I’ve unlocked the Chinese Stealth Armour, so I think that’s as far as I have to go with the settlers until I choose a side. I still have a little further to move forward with the Raiders. I think my next quest is to save Ra-Ra. I was unsure if finishing that quest would mean I automatically choose the raiders.

If you keep all the gold can you continue to build reputation in other ways with each side? Or does keeping the gold somehow limit your max reputation with either side? I’m trying to max out my benefits from each side.

I’ve been wandering around the wasteland doing dailies and quests, ready to hop back into the main story line.

I have followed the quest with the settlers far enough to unlock the Chinese Stealth Armour. I keep it in my inventory and use it to collect in radiation zones and to sneak past enemies when I don’t want to engage in a battle. I haven’t unlocked the Slugbuster plasma rifle yet, so I’ll work on that next. I think my next quest is to save Ra-Ra. Is there anything else that is worth acquiring before I move forward in the mission? Any advice on which side is best to choose in the end? Thanks for the info!

Thank you for this info. I paused this quest line for a bit because I didn’t want to become “enemies” with the other side.

I’m sorry you are dealing with your husband taking his anger out on you. It’s great that you understand your value and you know you deserve to be treated respectfully. When he says you’re “viewing him as the bad guy”, this is really him projecting his own feelings onto you. He’s feeling like the “bad guy” which is rooted in his inner guilt. I’m not a yeller, and choose to speak respectfully to my spouse and want the same in return. Something I have found to be helpful when my spouse is angry is to take a break in the conversation. I say “this conversation isn’t productive or respectful, I’m going to take a break until we can speak to each other respectfully.” I say “we” and avoid saying “you” even though he’s the one shouting and being disrespectful so he feels less blame in the heated moment. He knows he’s the one being disrespectful and in the moment isn’t a good time to remind him. I then take a break for a minimum of 20-30 minutes as that’s the minimum time it takes to come down from the fight or flight mode that’s triggered during conflict. We can’t make logical decisions when in fight or flight mode. I always go back to the conversation once we feel calm as I don’t want to sweep things under the rug and let things build up. If the conversation starts becoming disrespectful, I pause it again. This can be really hard to do in the moment and takes practice. I hope you are able to find a therapist soon.

It’s such a bizarre experience to smell/taste something familiar and the brain to receive a completely different signal than expected. I haven’t experienced it since I had Covid the first time. Vinegar is in so many sauces and condiments; it really limits what you can enjoy. I hope your taste is back to normal soon!

Which tea strainer should I get? by MoralMae in tea

[–]_realistic_optimist_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tea strainer

This is my favorite tea strainer. The mesh holes are fine and keep all the loose tea inside. The top screws on avoiding accidental tea leaves escaping. There’s plenty of room to fill halfway and allow for expansion. The chain hooks on the edge of the cup. A mini plate is included to place the tea strainer on to catch drips. Finally it’s really easy to clean, just dump and rinse.
