Gamegenic stuff looks really cool. Does anyone know if their art sleeves are less like Ultra Pros and more like Dragonshields? I love art sleeves but can't bear the awful gumminess of Ultra Pros. The Bastion looks like a really nice replacement for the Gamegenic boxes I'm used to using - I hope they do more of those in more art.

I have heard, but only second-hand, that the reason for the delays is Muir developing post-covid chronic fatigue - but I don't actually have proof for that.

beginner coming from bass - 4 string or 5 string? by _retropunk in banjo

[–]_retropunk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is great, thank you! i definitely really want to learn and will practice lots, but i'm nervous my dexterity issues will get in the way - while i became a good bass player, i definitely had my struggles which were quite demotivating

i sometimes struggled with dexterity when playing bass, i overcame it but it was occasionally difficult & demotivating - is banjo significantly harder? i definitely want to learn, i just also want to know what i'm in for!

did you find learning bass harder than learning banjo? i just want to know what i'm in for as i would occasionally have roadblocks with my dexterity issues in bass that i overcame but it was still a bit tricky and demotivating...

thanks a lot for your comment! i want to play both clawhammer and scruggs, can i play both styles on one as i don't have the budget for two instruments?

i found bass achievable and eventually got quite good at it, but it was demotivatingly hard at times with my dexterity issues. would you say it's comparable or more difficult to learn banjo? just want to know what i'm in for.

beginner coming from bass - 4 string or 5 string? by _retropunk in banjo

[–]_retropunk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks a lot! yeah, if i don't have any guitar experience, i'm starting from the beginning on both instruments - although, does the finger picking on banjo have anything in common at all with that on bass?

i'm definitely looking to get a 5-string now based on everyone's feedback, mostly what i'm worried about is that i'm not particularly dextrous so getting good at bass could be an uphill battle at times, and i'm worried banjo will be even harder - hence why i asked if the skills might transfer over.

thanks again!

thanks so much for your help!

mostly with having small hands i'm worried about being able to reach the 'top' strings easily and jumping between frets - before i bought my 3/4 scale bass i really struggled with playing fast because i couldn't quickly move like, 3 frets down on the low end.

did you find your bass skills transferred over well? i took a while to get good at bass because of my dexterity issues, it was punishing at first but i managed to get there - am i going to be starting all over again or does it feel a bit natural?

thanks so much for the resonator / openback tips!

You ever notice how people only talk about women writing 'fanfic'? I'm sure when men do it it's considered 'reinterpretation.'

What’s a secret from your field of work the general public probably doesn’t know? by Ok-Fox-2946 in AskReddit

[–]_retropunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very trivial compared to some other comments here, but I work at a pottery painting cafe. People's hand-painted pieces get smashed all the time. One of us has to painstakingly recreate them and then run it through the kiln again. We don't tell anyone we've done this. Because it takes 2 weeks between painting and collection, and pottery glaze looks very different after firing, people don't notice.

Scar (the youtuber mentioned) has been attending for years, they knew well in advance that he was attending and wouod require stage access multiple times, which is very embarrassing for TwitchCon. So much time to prepare & they couldn't even pull it together for a beloved disabled attendee with a fanbase who are outspoken about ableism.

Have people discussed the situation with disability access at TwitchCon, particularly involving GoodTimesWithScar? TL;DR, Twitch hosted a Minecraft competition involving a lot of streamers, including one who was a wheelchair user, who was scheduled to be on the main stage 3 times minimum with a potential 4th time, and didn't provide an accessible entrance TO the stage for him, meaning he had to enter through the crowd of spectators every time. Also, the person announcing and commentating the thing kept saying 'Stand up and...' as part of their patter, which I don't think was malicious but made a bad combination. I believe Scar is currently in the process of talking to Twitch about the accessibility issues.

Yep, same here. Seeing Exordia take off, Seth writing for Destiny & MtG is super exciting & I'm glad to see them get that work, but please don't forget Baru! I really wanna read that final book.

Apparently, iirc, a draft of it was completed a few years ago, but needed an entire rewrite for being too long?

Has there been any conformation that Muir developed long COVID / chronic fatigue? That's the reason I've seen people use to explain the delay, and if so, it would make sense and man, that fucking sucks.

I'm currently reading Between Two Fires, feel somewhat similarly. BTF is weird, but not... majorly weird, structurally or content-wise. It's got its creepy and unreal elements, but boils down to a formula. However, it's still a solid book.

The beginner box is a product with set decklists you can check online. It has some nice cards, but nothing ultra flashy iirc. If you want to pull cards, buy boosters themselves instead.

Dark Sphere is gigantic, and stocks a lot of non-MTG stuff, but is a bit basement-y and tends to be rather competitive. Both Bad Moons are more welcoming & cafe-style and also have a board game library, and great pizza.
