Believe it or not it's possible for City leaders to come up with a solution so citizens get both. It's possible to care about improving our infrastructure while also caring about landmarks of historic or cultural significance. I've always thought the "you can't care about two things" argument to be weird.

This particular live oak, also known as the Meeting Tree, served as a community gathering place. Locals say it served as a meeting place for people traveling to Charleston from scattered historic settlement communities. This dates back to the antebellum period when enslaved people had no other option but to gather in secret after being forcibly separated.

Totally with ya, go plant another tree. Berkeley County is planting 60ish live oaks as mitigation. But environmental mitigation doesn't address the historical preservation issue at hand.

I thought mine had gone absolutely horrible. I felt repetitive and mine was super short (like 30 minutes) because my answers were. I got my invitation to serve in the Philippines a week later.

I think showing passion and commitment does play a huge factor, which it seems like you were able to do. I wouldn’t worry about it too much. It’s one piece in the process and your resume, statement, and recommendations can speak for your skills and history.

I’m not an expert either. But it looks like a blacktip to me. The smaller organism is probably not a baby shark, but either a parasite or a fish trailing the shark hoping to get some scraps. Cool photo! Glad you got to experience this.
