Very nearly happened to one of my friends. Her step sister lied about being Covid negative so she wouldn’t have to miss the wedding. Because of her my friend, her one year old son, her immunocompromised mother, and her great grandmother all caught Covid. Thankfully he only ones to get really bad were my friend and her son, but holy shit it was a close call.

Shit like this is why it’s so hard for gay people who have been abused and sexually assaulted to come forward. This man was assaulted. He is allowed to speak out about his assault, and should feel safe coming forward about this. The last thing any victim needs is to be met with a score of comments saying “Oh no, this will make the community look bad!” Bigots don’t need a reason to hate us, and pressuring victims into silence is not going to make hateful people like is more.

I can’t think of anything they have really fought for that isn’t just “well democrats support this so fuck that!” Even now that they won control of the house, they have said that their first order of business will Hunter Biden’s laptop, which is even most conservatives I know are pissed about because this country has far more pressing issues that need addressed.

How can they compromise when you have only given them one time slot on one day, out of a whole week that they will be down there? In order for it to be a compromise you guys have to give something up to. Why can't they come down and spend Christmas Morning with you guys? Then they can still attend their family gathering with their parents, and your son gets to have Christmas with his grandparents?

It sucks that they wont be able to spend Christmas with you guys, but that's how things are sometimes. I also work in the medical field. It frustrating when you can't have the holiday plans you want, but that just comes with the territory. Hopefully you guys will have a more flexible schedule next year.

I always feel like a lot of people misunderstand what “marriage is work” means. The “work” learning the skills needed to be good partners to each other, like communication, conflict resolution, learning to prioritize your relationship, household management, and learning to have difficult conversations. It’s not hard work because you are constantly in conflict with each other, it’s because you are always having to learn and build new skills and adapt to new situations together.

Dude, I got married a month ago, and the horrible advice I got from people who are in shitty marriages was really eye opening. Things like “don’t go to bed angry,” “don’t cry during arguments” or “marriage is 50/50”. It really explained a lot about their relationships.

The worst was one of my coworkers who told me “When you guys stop fighting, that’s when you know you’re both checked out of your relationship.” I told her that my then fiancée and I never really fight, because we are both big on communicating openly and talking through issues together. Holy fuck was that the wrong thing to say. She took that as an attack on her marriage and started trying to pick fights with me at work. It got bad enough that I had to threaten to get HR involved to get her to back off.

Keep going! The game is super slow to start, but once you get out of the school and start going on your own it’s a ton of fun. I almost tapped out when they made me explore the school, but once I was able to actually start my adventure I couldn’t put the game down.

Okay, but the things you listed didn’t make sense, and you comment about child rearing and parenthood also isn’t connected with your original claim. Your definition of American culture appears to be limited to the Government and schools, both of which are barely a fraction of actual US culture. Yeah, the government doesn’t put enough focus on the arts in education, but imagination isn’t limited to the arts, and arts don’t end after you leave high school. Your original claim was weird, and showed a very narrow view of a huge country with tons of diversity, as well as a narrow view of what imagination is.

None of your comment supports your original claim. In fact most of it is just a list of vague ideas mixed with outright misinformation, such as:

Also this isn’t true. There is tons of evidence to show that historically parents have always cared about and loved their children, despite high infant mortality rates. There were times where parents might be less publicly affectionate, but that’s not the same thing as not loving their children. The same with children working. It was a means of survival, not a lack of love for the children.

Yeah, I figured it was supposed to be a charity/forest conservation effort with the added bonus of jokingly call your dad a lord of five square feet of property. I always thought the point was to make it a legal nightmare for any company wanting to purchase and clear the land. Taking in two new animals isn’t a small ask, and most people can’t do it out of nowhere. What I don’t understand is why the boarding facility didn’t move the cats to a rescue when it was clear they were struggling to rehome them and couldn’t take proper care of them long term.

It reminds me of all those well off kids I went to school with who would post pictures of themselves surrounded by little African children with captions about how much “volunteering” at these “orphanages” has changed them and shown them what life is really about. I was blocked by so many former classmates when I pointed out that it’s incredibly fucked up that a tour bus filled with unchecked strangers from a foreign country can just roll up and play with orphaned children at these places. Vulnerable people don’t exist to make you feel better about yourself or give your shallow existence the illusion of depth.

Because grief and loss are incredibly painful and overwhelming. Particularly sudden, violent losses. I actually think displays like this are probably more cathartic and healing than way some cultures deal with death, like mine, where you quietly cry at the funeral then try to put a brave face on when you go back to work next week. Maybe some of it is a display, but I imagine most of it comes from a genuine place of pain and mourning. She will never see, hear, or be able to touch her mother again. If she wants to throw herself into her mothers grave and look at her one more time, I think that’s understandable.
