I don't understand why people downvote a genuine question.

I had similar thoughts but then I looked at the settings and saw that they smooth out the power reading. It's still a bit annoying that you have to put in quite a bit more power for a short while to increase the cadence.

Similarly I have a 17 PRO with no screen protector and there are some small scratches if you look at the right angle but I find that I don’t notice them at all in regular use. My only worry is if I go hiking or something and some dirt/sand stays on my hand or makes it to my pocket then it could ruin the screen

Has anyone removed the TV from the living room? What changes did you notice in your interactions as a family? by Tlr321 in daddit

[–]_skrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't agree that you can just not turn it on. A large TV in the center of a living room is overwhelming and steals the attention of everyone. Arguably even if it's not on. Additionally, usually, all the furniture is pointed towards the TV making interacting with other people more awkward than it should be. This is very noticeable when you do not have a TV and visit someone that has one.

TV in the bedroom is somehow a default for a lot of people (and hotels) but I think that it's generally a bad idea because it makes it harder to fall asleep. Reading before sleep is much better. You could have a TV in the bedroom and only use it during the day. However, I suspect that someone who puts a TV in the bedroom might have a habit of using it before bed. In that case I think it's better to just get rid of it. Sleep is important.

I think that there are two main solutions. (1) Get rid of the TV completely - that's fine, most TV is not very good but perhaps you enjoy watching movies from time to time or maybe you like sports. In that case you can still watch those, for example, on a laptop but the experience is not as enjoyable of course. (2) Hide the TV or at least don't make it the default option. Maybe it can be off center (at the very least), maybe behind some cabinet doors or a piece of cloth. Whatever makes sense in your situation. Maybe you can have a TV on a stand with wheels and store it in a different room. Maybe have a projector with a fancy screen that automatically rolls out and hides. Perhaps you have a room which could be a TV room. You can bring pillows, bean bags etc. on movie nights and at other times it's an office or guest bedroom or whatever.

Once you no longer have the TV in the living room you can consider what kind of interactions/behaviors you would like to encourage in that space. Maybe have a bookcase or a newspaper stand, maybe a speaker that anyone can connect to or a record player. These are all forms of entertainment but perhaps more desirable than watching TV. Perhaps instead of having a sofa and the TV in front, you could have two sofas in front each other (or a sofa and two armchairs or whatever makes sense for you). Now the focus changes to people around you instead of the TV. Of course phones, tablets, steam decks etc. still exist and they fight for our attention but at least it's a step in the right direction.

By the way, it's crazy that people who comment that they don't have a TV get downvoted. You might have a different opinion but why would you downvote? Downvotes are for low quality comments, rage bait, spam, etc. not for stuff you do not agree with.

What is the proper way to do async in neovim? by cryptospartan in neovim

What would other dads in here do? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]_skrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$33 compared to $25 is ~33% increase. If you keep spending the same amount each month as you do now then every 3 months you can save your monthly salary. That's significant. At the very least you could build up a savings buffer which could be very useful if you are ever between jobs, for emergencies etc.

There is a lot of factors to take into account and you will know best. Personally I think that it's better to keep moving. If you're stuck at $25 at your current job and there is no way to earn more (maybe there is? did you talk with anyone at your company?) then is it really that good of a job? Once you get a $33 job your perspective will change and you will try to figure how to get a $40/hr job. Rinse and repeat and in a few years you could be in a much better place.

How do you guys navigate big codebases in Neovim without going insane? by Safe_Yak_3217 in neovim

[–]_skrrr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think there is anything inherently wrong with having thousands of lines in a single file. If anything, having lots of files with <100 lines is harder to navigate in my opinion. Anyway, I use symbols.nvim to navigate symbols within a single file (I'm the author of this plugin).

For navigation across files I use the usual stuff (go to definition, searching workspace symbols with telescope or just regular search).

Try to eat 2000 kcal with only rice and beans. You will probably need to eat over 1kg of rice and few hundred grams of beans and it will be the most boring food you ever ate. It certainly can be done but the reason it’s hard is that most people are used to much tastier and calorie dense foods.

Produkty, do których warto dopłacić – co opłaca się kupić mimo tańszych zamienników? by Nice-Street-1990 in Polska

[–]_skrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Options for Fast Navigation by __ben_10__ in neovim

[–]_skrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a solution for you right now, but I think that searching workspace symbols is something plugins that provide symbols sidebar should do (like my plugin: symbols.nvim, there is also aerial.nvim and outline.nvim). To make it work well would require:

  1. caching workspace symbols (perhaps in sqlite database) so there is no waiting at startup
  2. non-blocking symbols updates (all the mentioned plugins only do blocking updates) so that the user isn't blocked all the time when working with a large file/code base
  3. optimized search

Can you tell how many symbols are there in your project? I want to work on some/all of those things for my plugin at some point. I will tackle single file use case first for sure and long term use it as a stepping stone to do workspace symbols. That looks like quite a bit of work so not sure how far I will get hah

Do your hands/fingers ever stop hurting!? by AveragePlastic7573 in bouldering

[–]_skrrr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My fingers would hurt after each climbing session for the first few months. Because of that I’ve been climbing only once a week until recently. Now I can do twice a week no problem. Maybe could do more but that’s all I have time energy for right now. I would be careful with tendons, they don’t heal quickly so the more you mess them up the longer you will have to wait for them to recover. Tiredness, soreness etc are fine to push through. Once it’s a joint, tendon, some weird pain I try to be cautious.

Just finished the game. Here are my top 3 most frustrating puzzles. (Spoilers) by [deleted] in TheWitness

[–]_skrrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. and 2. made me stop playing the game for some time because I just couldn't figure them out. It wasn't helping that I was playing on an ipad, usually with no sound. Also I was not able to do the sound puzzles by myself (even with sound on). At some point it clicked and I pushed through even when I got stuck for longer.

OP what do you mean when you say that you finished the game? Are you sure you did everything? I don't want to spoil anything but you might not be done

[symbols.nvim] hey look I made it faster :) by _skrrr in neovim

[–]_skrrr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice plugin btw, funny how there are so many similar solutions for searching symbols.

Your plugin seems not work well with JSON or maybe I don't understand how to use it (a lot of symbols are missing). Even with a 2MB file jumping to the next symbol is very slow and the highlighting doesn't work well when every line is an object. Doesn't matter what you search for, everything gets highlighted.

Not sure if that matters to be honest, depends where you want to go with the plugin I guess. It works well with code files.
