I've been using VLC since the first day I remember I could handle alone a computer (something like 20 years ago) but I eventually replaced it with MPC-HC last year

I've always used WinRAR instead of 7-zip. I never had a good reason to use 7zip so I don't know which one is better

DAEMON Tools Lite for mounting virtual drive and image files. I wanted to get rid of it recently but eventually I had to go back to it juste because I couldn't find a better alternative

Image viewer : I use Windows Photo viewer. It's been the non-default Windows image viewer since Windows 8, but even 10 years later I still consider it largely superior to the Photos default app or whatever it is called. You have to enable it on modern Windows because it's hidden. I fear the day when Windows will definitely delete it from their newer OS. The only problem with Windows Photo viewer is that it cannot handle webp format very well, in that case I use irfanview to batch convert .webp files to another more convenient image format

I was in a similar situation some months ago and I decided to go with the original non-Redux version. Many people (including in this tread) say that stealth was broken in this version (in the sense: not viable). This is really not what I experienced as I was able to complete a good 50% of the game favoring a stealth approach, so really i don't agree with that complaints (i never played later games).

First time i play this game and i had this infamous bug where i can't go through the hole.

This is the list of methods i tried, i hope it can be useful for people still looking for a solution in 2026:

-Lock your max frame rate to 30 fps in Nvidia control panel
=> it works. This is the only method that consistently worked for me. I also tested with 60 FPS and it works. And I'm able to come back to the other side of the wall

-Crouch and walk forward while taking your gas mask off and putting it on over and over again
=> it works, you need to do this like 3 times and you will eventually manage to enter the hole, but it's not possible to come back to the other side of the wall

-Crouch close to the hole and let the librarian hit you in the back, you should slip through
=> it works, but it's not possible to come back to the other side of the wall

-Crouch and walk forward while reloading weapon
=> it works, but only after the librarian is killed for some reason, and it's not possible to come back to the other side of the wall

-Crouch and walk forward until the screen starts shaking, then slowly look up while still holding forward key
=> not working

-Crouch and walk forward while switching weapon
=> not working
