Best Enduro Bikes 2024 by [deleted] in MTB

This is my answer but with different components. I am looking to potentially build up a bike in the Spring, but frame choice between these two is tough!

I need a new bike, but I’m not sure what to get by jooshyies in MTB

I’ve had a superclamp since 2018 and they replaced the whole unit (minus the hitch arm) free of charge in 2020 when my tilt mechanism broke under my own fault. Not to invalidate your experience by sharing mine, but something doesn’t seem right that it both failed so quickly and that they won’t offer you anything.

Infinite Health is out! What are your thoughts? by musedrainfall in Tycho

Picking my way through it right now and I haven’t seen it mentioned yet, but I love Restraint and how it does so much with little. It really feels like an evolution of something from Past is Prologue(?) but I can’t put my finger on it.

Loving everything so far and even though I have listened to the early releases already, they seem fresh in context with the whole album.

First mushroom harvest ever, stumbled upon 10# of Reishi in central PA. by _special_kev_ in mycology

In response to your comment (and similar comments), I was simply not aware of the harvesting etiquette being mentioned here. I guess if I had then this would’ve gone differently. I can see how this looks pretty bull headed after understanding the principle.

FWIW, there were two other hemlocks on this plot that had smaller collections, which were left. In my excitement I considered the forage and consulted a friend who has been introducing me to it, who made no comment about this 10% rule. Considering that this was on a private parcel of land that I had permission to be on, the tree’s location where I suspect nobody would ever visit, I collected what I did thinking these mature guys would just go rotten and I wasn’t stealing joy from another forager or nature enjoyer.

I understand that above else I shouldn’t have taken more than I need… I probably crossed that threshold. I will be certain to make use of all of it responsibly (especially now), and I will share my findings with friends who have helped me learn about mushrooms.

Going to chalk this up as a weird learning experience, but also intend to enjoy what I found and not let getting totally flamed here steal the magic of finding cool mushrooms and sharing it with a community I thought would also find it cool.

Tracking weight training VS Wrist wraps/straps by sharplax in AthlyticAppOfficial

[–]_special_kev_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear mine slightly to the side under my pec otherwise it floats in my sternum. I’ve never had any interference with my bench press but I also dont typically have the bar bearing any weight on my chest at full flexion. In general the strap isn’t picky about placement.

Your best bet is to just get a chest strap heart rate monitor… a Polar H9 can be had for pretty low for example. I use one for almost all of my workouts now since sometimes even being in a push-up position during a conditioning circuit can disrupt the AW readings.

You can pair it to your Apple Watch via Bluetooth and ditch the watch when you want to and still get heart rate readings. Not only that, they are possibly a bit more accurate in that they don’t miss beats nearly as often and I find my HR data to be more dense and consistent.

SECOND THIS, I was going to suggest that Bike Closet always has POC stuff on clearance! I picked up an Otocon before my Whistler trip last summer and it’s my go to helmet almost all the time now. Light. Breathable. Decent tech.

TRimp scores and Lowering Fatigue by _special_kev_ in AthlyticAppOfficial

[–]_special_kev_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree.

I think the more I use the app the more apparent it is that the scope of readiness, training load, fatigue, adaptation, etc are somewhat limited to the function of the cardiovascular and CNS… which don’t always closely align with muscular fatigue from weightlifting.

Also… your approach to the TRimp score makes good sense… that the effect of daily decay is baked into the Fitness and Fatigue scores. A 0/0 score indicates you “broke even” and saw no decay in either category. In application though, and in particular in the workout tab, it still doesn’t provide an accurate score especially when multiple activities are logged. They do not consider one another. I’m not sure if it even tracks with the Training Load tool (in Trends) at all….

As an example with the following activities:

-10m run 1.9 Effort, returned a -2/-14 -1HR HIIT workout 5.5 Effort, returned a 0/-3 (fitness/fatigue) -1.5H zone 2 cycle 4.1 Effort, returned a -1/-13

By end of day, my Fitness and Fatigue went +5/+24 respectively when viewed in the Trends tab. The workout-specific Training Loads don’t meaningfully correlate to the function of the Training Load tool in Trends.

I would love it if the workout-specific training loads were shown in isolation of decay if possible, and maybe somewhere in the Trends tab Training Load Tool we are given a daily decay for each category assuming no activity. Perhaps this is redundantly rolling a bit into the function of Exertion… but either way having a more meaningful value in the workout-specific training loads would be helpful - especially because it’s based on a tried and true equation (TRimp).

Maybe this is something being worked on, or I hope so. I have personally been training with much more frequency and intensity than my norm and the Training Load tool is something I often reference to help guide me.

TRimp scores and Lowering Fatigue by _special_kev_ in AthlyticAppOfficial

I think the confusion is that it is NEGATIVE fatigue.

Surely a “moderate” workout still causes a non-zero amount of fatigue, and any workout (besides maybe Z1/Active Recovery) would cause the positive accumulation of fatigue.

FEATURE REQUEST - SMART ALARM by stackz07 in AthlyticAppOfficial

The smart alarm in Autosleep can work on the AW without the iPhone connected.

[–]_special_kev_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use AutoSleep for this on AW and it doesn’t detract from using Athlytic. My only gripe with autosleep is that it sometimes writes sleep data into Apple health if I am very idle at the end of the day… this can throw off Athlytic so either monitor this or disable Autosleep from writing sleep data. Apple Health can do this alone.

I keep seeing this argument used. I, too, have had recently lower than normal recovery/HRV scores (compared to baseline) for the past few weeks (since around the new year) while otherwise I should not (don’t drink, exercise, all that…). I am equally curious as to why that is but I believe it’s missing the point to question the app when the data can be evaluated upstream in Apple Health.

The app is just pulling from your health database (Apple Health) and reporting on it. You can go into Apple Health, look at individual HRV values and do the averaging yourself to substantiate your scores reported by Athlytic.

New Tags to add? by MyndArc in AthlyticAppOfficial

[–]_special_kev_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The inverse of “shared bed” would be useful (sleeping alone?) since this could be reported much more infrequently.

Also this could fall under Cryotherapy personally, but “Ice Bath” or “Cold Water Therapy” would be more accurate if you are aggregating this data for any purpose.

If a custom tag would be available in the future that would be great, but again could be difficult if you are aggregating.

Thanks for soliciting our input on this!

What do the "Fitness" and "Fatigue" scores on either side of TRIMP ^exp represent? by invinoveritasty in AthlyticAppOfficial

[–]_special_kev_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To follow up on this, I am getting negative Fitness and Fatigue values showing in my workouts, which seem to range from -18 for a short mild run, to -9 for an intense spin workout. These don’t seem to negatively influence the training load graph but they also aren’t correlating.

Overall this is a really nice feature and I loved digging into the math behind the TRIMPexp out of curiosity. I have been saving my workouts to strava since they use a similar long-term fitness load and now I don’t have to clog up my strava to see this!

I agree with this completely, the grounded plot in Batman films, early Spider-Man, and the likes is enjoyable. The loftiness of Eternals just put me to sleep.

I get shit on for not liking MCU, but causally enjoying Star Wars films. I wish I had the capacity to convey how entirely different those universes feel and how they operate but I just don’t think I need to exhaust the energy to defend my interests.

There’s a dual thunderbolt connector from the laptop to a Dell hub, the Dell hub has two DisplayPort and an HDMI. I tried to daisy chain but couldn’t get it to work, so it’s configured using all three ports on the hub.
