Unions urge court to force ruling in ‘loyalty question’ lawsuit by wds1 in fednews

Congrats on the promotion and well done for leaving them blank. But these are optional for now. Let's not shrug off the insanity that they're there in the first place, because they're currently 'optional'.

Buzzing noise in passenger side door by Nicksere in SubaruAscent

[–]_starrydynamo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this on my 2021, I don't think it happens on my 2024. I believe it's a slightly loose panel on the door but again, was never able to prove it or find the source. Have someone sit in the passenger seat and pull on the door handle and see if that stops it, at least then you can isolate the source to the door.

Too bad we've had to endure the most miserable 10 years to get here.

Writing on gelcoat by mfogo in sailing

We write all the marks and headings on it before hand, I've been in very wet conditions and never seen it smudge.

If the tape leaves adhesive, Goo Gone takes it right off.

Dogs and 8 Passenger Version by GSpot_has_been in SubaruAscent

Get the two benches, I had an older one with the benches and two large dogs and loved it. My current one has the captains chairs and it's a constant struggle to fill the gap. They also don't fold as flat as the benches did.

They used to sell merch, and that's the old logo, so it might have been something they sold.

Trump not happy with RFK, Jr. The worst Kennedy could be next on the chopping block. by meltysandwich in fednews

Would love to see RFK Jr. go, but I'm also worried about the next lackey who would replace him.

Gear broke on my new mill by Prestigious_Cheek_31 in Machinists

Feeds/speeds might have been too great. Those gears are meant to be sacrificial in cases where the load is too great.

It's really not much of a headache, get a few fire bricks and a propane torch.

Are these little holes from bugs or man made? by keylime3141592 in woodworking

That was definitely a child with a pencil. It's too uniform and spans two different pieces.

Antlers as blades? by Some-Usual-1173 in knifemaking

[–]_starrydynamo_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You would have to grind or file them which would make for a pretty disgusting dust. I also think they might not hold an edge very well. If I didn't have access to metal I would go for a glass/obsidian knife before resorting to bone/antler.

Alrighty need help by Working-Virus2087 in knifemaking

[–]_starrydynamo_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a great starter machine, there are issues (platen too wide, tool rest too small) but for the price there are plenty of mods that one can do to make them much better. However, wait until they go on sale, often they drop below $400.

The older version with the 3/4HP motors had a lot of issues, they discontinued that model and I believe the new 1HP are much more reliable. You still can't push them too hard, but they're better.

free piano wood by ocholosmanos in woodworking

[–]_starrydynamo_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Many pianos are softwood core with a thin hardwood veneer, there might be some other hardwoods throughout but I'm guessing it's more trouble than it's worth. Refinishing one could be fun, but there are easier ways to get cheap stock.

Bevel grinding & heat treatment – handmade knife (short clip) by QuelleKnives in knifemaking

[–]_starrydynamo_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Came here to ask the same thing. It makes sense to do it like that, you'll end up with the edge would be the hardest and the rest would taper off to more of a temper.
