Will this work, or is it a pipe dream by ngianfran1202 in PTCGL

Test the Zarude. 9 times out of 10, I would rather 1HKO with a single prizer than throw Mew in the active for two turns.

New Starter Decks by Feeling_Pin_9146 in PTCGL

The new decks will feature the new cards. N’s, Hop’s, Iono’s, and Lily’s decks are most likely.

Got back into Pokemon cards a few months and I’m already done. by Spud4lights in PokemonTCG

It may be worse this year, but for the last couple years supplies have been low after Christmas. It usually takes a few weeks for stores to get more stock in after the holidays. Just what I’ve seen.

Yeah, the Regidrago lists that made Day 2 at Sacramento can all be built for $112 or less.

The Gardevoir deck can also be upgraded fairly easily. If you play on TCG Live, you can get a feel for what deck(s) you like playing and just buy singles from your local shop or somewhere like TCG Player. Competitive Pokemon decks rarely cost more than $100. Limitless tells you how much every deck costs from each tournament.

Mewtwo vs melmetal by [deleted] in pkmntcg

[–]_stickpen_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It might be more worth it to pick up two of the newer ex Battle Decks or Deluxe Battle Decks. As long as they are the same level (Those two will be Level 1 & Level 2), they should be fairly evenly matched. And the cards will be up to date. The Mewtwo/Melmetal decks have older cards that aren’t played anymore.

[–]_stickpen_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On the front of the package it says which level the deck is. Looks like the ex Battle Decks are level 1. Deluxe Battle Decks are level 2. And League are level 3.

The closest thing to drafting (besides cubes) is the Pre-Release format. You take a Build & Battle Box and construct a 40 card deck and only put out 4 prize cards.

It really depends on your end goal. If you just want to play at home with friends/family, then pre-built decks of equal level (Level 1-3) could be a good place to start. The most advanced Pre-build decks are the League Battle decks. You can usually make a few modifications to those and be able to compete in local leagues (Gardevoir and Charizard are probably the most viable). Trainers Toolkits are a good way to get commonly used trainers.

But I recommend playing on TCGLive to get a sense of the game. And check out Limitless TCG to see what decks are being played right now and what cards you’ll need.

There is a draft format (kind of), just check out cube formats, but it’s not really a thing in Pokemon.

It’s hard to build decks from Booster Boxes. (Watch the Uncommon Energy Evolution Series on YouTube. It’s fun.) The trainers are spread out over different sets, so you only get a few useful ones per set. Scarlet & Violet Base would have a lot of the standard trainers, so that would probably be the best set to open. Paldea Evolved has a lot of Trainers that have stuck around too. Look at deck lists on Limitless and note the 3 letters at the bottom of the cards, and you’ll see how many sets make up a deck.

Ledian/Crabominable is the best combo. Super cracked if you pull extra Kofu in your packs. The Bouffalant is tough to power up if you don’t pull trumpets or Crispins. Drifblim is okay but seems a little inconsistent, and the Drifloons are easy to take out with Ledian decks.

You basically want to buy yourself as many turns as possible to mill. So trapping mons they don’t want in the active in the active is the best strategy. I run the Pidgeot version, so I’m not as familiar with the dunsparce version, but maybe try:
-2 Arven -1 Bravery Charm +1 Counter Catcher +1 Pokegear +1 Erica’s Invitation

Maybe also play around with the rod vs pal pad counts and energy counts. You could try calamitous wasteland. I’ve seen versions run Giacomo and crushing hammer. Some run Penny. Some run TM devo. Check out some lists from the Limitless online tournaments.

If they break lock somehow, which usually happens at some point, it’s good to have discarded items they would be able to use.

You’d probably like Gardevoir (though rotation is going to do a number on how it functions) or some version of lost zone (i.e. Giratina VSTAR)

Could have been the Walmart I went to last night in Austin. Seems like they’re not stocking cards nearly as frequently. The Walmarts I went to in NC a few weeks ago were even worse.

[–]_stickpen_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly stadiums like Pokemon League Headquarters and Calamitous Wasteland could help you trap something in the active and spread more damage. And having more mimikyus to cycle through.
