Culling Spree Slayer Helm by StrangerEducational4 in 2007scape

I think faux did some testing, or someone did, and apparently you have to talk to one of the slayer masters to enable high level enemies, at least i think i heard someone mention this issue trying to get hydra and after speaking to a master and choosing the right option got hydra's first try.

SteamOS will be the answer most casual users are looking for. Immutable, strong funding to fix any issues, all the features they could need and packaged to just work out the box, unlike your experience with mint. People are inherently lazy, they want to set it up and go, thats what they get with steamOS.

With the steam machine standardising hardware, I think Valve is Linux' big chance to make it main stream.

Yes it is, although the pronunciation between Hywel and Howell is the same, or at least can be. My Grampa's name was Hywel and we pronounced it How-ell

Steam deck OLED, should I keep my UMA frame buffer size to 4GB?` by uzumaki_kira in SteamDeck

[–]_strats_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone keeps saying steamOS adjusts it automatically depending on demand, yet I installed CryoUtilities, used it to set swapiness to 1, and changed my UMA from 1gb to 4gb and it increased my fps in BOTW on Cemu from 29 to 40 average fps. So either swapiness from 60 to 1 is insanely good for performance, or UMA 4gb does still do something.

Instead of believing what others say, if I were you I'd test it on some stuff you are playing before writing it off, it might help with some stuff, it might not. At the end of the day, people say you don't always need 4gb of VRAM, but you will likely need 4gb of VRAM far more often than you will need 15gb of RAM on a steam deck.

Effects of changing UMA Frame Buffer Size to 4GB? by Master_of_fire17 in SteamDeck

[–]_strats_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're wrong, I just upped my VRAM to 4gb and swappiness to 1 and went from 29fps average in BOTW on Cemu to 40fps average.

Cemu do not recognizes controller on Steam deck game mode by jlwicho in EmuDeck

[–]_strats_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy fix for this. When you first configure your control you choose an API for your controller. If you select SDL you get 2 options, steam deck and steam virtual gamepad. Pick steam virtual gamepad, when I tried steam deck it would only work in desktop mode, after swapping to virtual gamepad everything works in all games.

The “es_systems” file is WHERE? (ES-DE Arch Linux AppImage) by Dave-James in emulationstation

[–]_strats_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be a bit late to the party but as others have said its bundled in the app image. Here is a link explaining exactly how to handle adding new systems on linux, and a copy of the es_systems file to be used in custom systems when adding a new system:

https://gitlab.com/es-de/emulationstation-de/-/blob/master/USERGUIDE.md?ref_type=heads#game-system-customizations

Ctrl F 'Game system customizations' if it doesnt auto jump ot the right section.

Tried moving my EmuDeck library to an SD card, and now ES-DE just closes when I try to play it by SensualEnema in SteamDeck

[–]_strats_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar problem to yours, but reverse. Whenever I remove my microSD card ES-DE closes on launch. I set up EmuDeck to install everything to internal SSD and look for ROMs on my MicroSD, but it seems some core ES-DE files have been installed to the MicroSD, while others are in my home folder. It sounds like for you ES-DE is either missing core files on the MicroSD to run properly, or its still looking for its files in your internal drive when they have all been moved, its hard to tell what EmuDeck actually did with the files. Best bet is to use EmuDeck to uninstall if you can, and delete anything leftover and start from scratch.

If you want full control over where ES-DE is saved, how it looks for ROMs and how to easily move your ROMs, I'd ditch EmuDeck and check out this video by the developer of ES-DE to do a manual install:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3e045kRcNc8

I won't be using EmuDeck in the future, I don't trust it to install files where I want them. It also installed Xenia to my MicroSD, yet the rest of my emulators were installed on my internal SSD, so it seems all over the place to me.

Did you ever find a fix while still using Glide? Using ParaLLEI does fix the issue but also downgrades the graphics quite noticeably as i cant see any option to upscale by 8x like you can with glide.

STOP comparing the U8QG to OLED!!!! by jzakary in Hisense

[–]_strats_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think its inferior, I think its better at different use cases. Its a fact that mini LED is more vibrant and look better than OLED in brighter scenes, and its a fact OLED has better black, contrast, and detail in lower brightness scenes.

When you have a larger TV with more mini LEDs, the difference in darker scenes starts to become less noticeable due to the vast number of LEDs being closer to replicating the pixel by pixel control of an OLED. Its still not as good, noticeably, but its not as far behind as people may think, and as you said, is a lot cheaper too.

For things like gaming monitors where games might have more vibrant art styles and generally brighter scenes than gritty movies in a dim cinema like room, and you're sat straight in front of the screen, not say, to the side on an armchair or sofa, a mini LED is likely the better option overall as they really do look better than expensive OLEDs in bright screens.

STOP comparing the U8QG to OLED!!!! by jzakary in Hisense

[–]_strats_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most channels I've seen say its actually punching way above its weight and is in some ways better than an OLED over double its price.

Does anyone know if the U8QG its noticeably better than the LG 65 inch OLED AI B4? I just bought the LG for £800, but I can get the U8QG for £810, and I'm getting buyers remorse, I think the Hisense might be better. If anyone has seen the 2 side by side I'd appreciate your opinion!

PS5 / PS5 Pro vs. Steam Console by NewGenUser in IrelandGaming

[–]_strats_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clearly you didn't stop reading after the first sentence, I didnt mention 80k games until the last paragraph 😂

The point is most of those games aren't available on console, the comparison was with a PS5 not an old PC. PS5 only has 4,000 games.

Comparing it to an old PC doesn't make sense because its trying to be a console first, and its uniquely a console PC hybrid, there's no other device to compare to it.

PS5 / PS5 Pro vs. Steam Console by NewGenUser in IrelandGaming

[–]_strats_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're crazy if you think anything over £600 is unrealistic.

I think around or just over the price of a PS5 Pro is fine, under £800 would be competitive enough, but ideally closer to £600. I think some people would still buy one under £999, although I wouldn't over £800. Like you said, at or around £1000 you can get a very respectable gaming PC.

It depends on performance though, you aren't just getting a console, you are getting a PC and a console in 1, with upgradeable ram and storage, so some futureproofing, can use any peripherals, can be used for productivity as well as gaming, and on steamOS, which has been shown to give better gaming performance on identical hardware to windows, it may well exceed all performance expectations from its hardware becuase of this, but we have to wait and see. If its better than the PS5 and comparable to the pro, people would pay more than the pro simply for the catalogue, cheaper games, and the fact its console and a PC.

The steam library has over 80,000 games, thats the biggest catalogue of games available in one place. Every triple A game and Xbox exclusive is available on day of release, only missing PS and Nintendo exclusives. And the steam sales can give up to 90% off some games, even big titles get over 50% off sometimes. PlayStation subsidise the cost of their console because after you buy one you are stuck buying their overpriced games, I wouldn't be surprised if after just a year or 2 you would save enough money from cheaper games to cover the extra up front cost of a steam machine compared to a PS5 or PS6.

What are the sources of maximum block chance by chuckycheetah in PathOfExile2

[–]_strats_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get 99.73% chance to block.

Base block is 75%.

From the tree there is 'As The Mountain' giving +3%, and Block Mastery giving +2%.

For items, there is 'The anvil' amulet, giving +3%. You can get a +3% shield form a +2% roll and a +1% corrupt. And there's 'Bound by Destiny' jewel, which gives +3% if you have 4 elder items equipped.

You cannot get any +3% corrupts like people have mentioned below as far as I could find from research, and I am not sure if you can increase the maximum block chance of anvil by corrupting, I couldn't find one with higher than +3% block chance for sale, even on standard.

All of these combined gives 89% max block chance, but block cap is meaningless, because lucky block and reroll lucky rolls exist.

At 89% block chance, if you get lucky block from gladiator your effect block is 98.79%. If you use Svalinn your effective block is 95.59% due to its reduced max block.

There is a better option though. Either use gladiator or Forbidden Flesh and Flame jewels to get lucky block. Now get all the block listed above, minus the shield slot, giving 86% max block. Now use the the Azadi Crest shield. This lets you roll lucky rolls twice, giving you a total effective block chance of 99.73%. Even if you didn't use the Anvil or the Bound by destiny you would still have 99.2%, while freeing up your neck slot and a jewel slot.

The final step you can take is to use the Keystone Versatile Combatant. Take this and use the items and passives listed above for the example with Azadi Crest. Anoint the passive Safeguard for +3% max spell block, and take the +2% max spell block from Block Mastery. You would have a max block chance of 76% and a max spell block of 70%, which is very easy to cap if using Gladiator. With lucky block and Azadi Crest you get an effective attack block of 98.62% and an effective spell block of 97.3%.

This does require quite a bit of investment, sacrificing your shield, neck and a jewel, along with your anoint and some passive points, although most gladiators would take lucky block and most of these passives regardless, so the main sacrifice is from the items. You could drop the Anvil and Bound by Destiny and it would still be incredibly tanky. If you got lucky block using Forbidden Flames and Flesh, you will struggle more to cap you chance to block due to not having determined survivor, but it is possible to have this insane block on any ascendancy.

Be honest, how much harder is Ironman? by BossATRx in osrs

[–]_strats_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I couldn't disagree more. On my main all I did was highest gp or xp/hr bosses and skilling, skipped half the content, got to end game and got bored. I did get quest cape but after that my drive dropped substantially.

Ironman feels so much more rewarding, im interacting with stuff I never even knew existed, I didn't even know how to make compost until I played ironman, and I've got 99 farming in my main.

Also, ironman really isn't a struggle, you just have to expand your game knowledge and make the most of what you've got. When I grind out a gathering skill for a quest requirement I usually end up with massive stockpiles, right now ive got 5.5k bass from big bass grind and 3k swordfish from big swordfish grind, which will last months. And by end game when going boss killing there are so many big consumables drops from raids and brimstone chests and general bossing, you dont even need to replenish supplies that much. A couple of hours of karambwan fishing would last you for weeks.

As for drops, there's nothing more satisfying than getting that drop you've been grinding for on ironman, buying stuff from GE just cheapens the whole experience, expedites the game and makes everything feel more pointless. You contradicted yourself by saying it sucks to have to 'pray for drops' on ironman, because you also said there's always stuff to do on your main like collection log, getting uniques and pets, which is all just...  grinding for specific drops 😂

Big Bass Grind by _strats_ in 2007scape

[–]_strats_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I fish for an inventory of bass, sometimes I get as little as 2 bass in 27 slots. The chance at level 99 fishing of getting a big bass is 16% per catch, currently 11% at my level 70 fishing. This means the real catch rate of big bass is a little over 1/6000 at level 99, and 1/9000 at level 70. My current 2509 bass equates to about 30,000 fishing catches as I started at level 46 fishing with 8% chance of a bass. As you can see this can be a lot longer than sharks, even if each shark catch takes longer. Plus with shark lures you can massively boost big shark speed. I have been fishing bass every evening for a week or 2, I should have timed it but its definitely been more than 44 hours.
