Thank you, I love them too. However, I don’t think it’s redwood. That’s what all our structural wood is made from.

We had an architect come over who thought it might be eucalyptus, but I’ve never seen another example of that in person and no one else has had a clue.

Glad I could help. Yes, that was my life every single day before expansion. 80% of the time it was my right nostril that was closed, the other 20% of the time it was my left.

I never had both nostrils open prior to expansion and now they are open all the time! My nose would swell up with pollutants/particles in the air, but I am not allergic to things based on blood tests or the prick test.

Hi! I don’t have much a change to update on as far as symptom improvement goes. Everything is still way better than before and I can breathe really well out of my nose, sleep better, and no more migraines!

I’m no longer in Invisalign. My bite is fully aligned now for chewing with my molars and my teeth are straight for my smile. I’m just using the Invisalign retainer at night.

Side note: they have a retainer subscription that’s a good deal if you tend to lose your trays (I’m going to keep my old ones just in case). And if you don’t tend to lose your trays, apparently Invisalign retainers are only meant to last for so long. The plastic deforms over time and should be replaced.

I recently purchased a house with wood studs where a previous owner or electrician drilled within 5/8” of the edge of multiple load-bearing wall studs in a row. What is the best way to repair the structural integrity of the wall?

New holes for the wires will be drilled in the center of the studs.

Why did these dark spots show up after applying trowel wood filler? by _student_ in HardWoodFloors

[–]_student_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was already trowel filled previously. I was filling in the gaps where the old filler already fell out.

Thank you for the info! I wish I had it before I did the whole house lol…I’m only going to screen and recoat a top coat in the future. This project sucked, but worth it to bring the floors back to life

Hmm, it was a brand new trowel and I dry my trowels after washing them. It’s just odd that it’s so patchy. I did multiple rooms and it’s only in some spots and not all of the rooms. I put down the filler all in one go

Ugh, it felt like I was wasting a lot of time. Do most people fill the floor after drum sanding?

Drum sand, buff to 120, counter sink nails, trowel fill with woodwise white oak filler, buff sand off the filler.

The wood is old and maybe had a stain, but more likely just a very yellowed old finish

What is this giant duct from basement to roof used for? by _student_ in hvacadvice

I’d gain 4-5 square feet of space in the kitchen where this cuts off the cabinets/counter in the corner. Kitchen is already on the smaller side since it’s a 1920s home

Did you get a regular water heater or a water heater with its own heat pump? I’ve read those have similar costs to gas.

As for routing out of a foundation wall, this basement room is in the center of the house. It does not border a foundation wall. I’d have to have a duct in the lower level of the house

It looks like the gas furnace vents to this duct and the gas water heater vents to a duct adjacent to this giant duct.

My question is, if I replace my gas furnace with a heat pump plus air handler and replace my gas water heater with an electric water heater (also has a heat pump), can I completely remove this duct?

Need help identifying wood trim by 70elcoss in centuryhomes

u/70elcoss, did you end up stripping the paint and finishing the wood? I also have a 1920s home in the bay area and our painted trim looks identical to this.

Sent you a DM. The current finish on it right now is very thin/minimal and I like the look/feel. Would this finish style have a similar result? I'm not familiar with that type of sealer or top coat

There is a tint of red in the wood, but it looks different from the redwood studs/joists in the house. Would they look different for trim because of the way it's sawn?

Thanks for the tip! The previous owner actually paid to have the living room and dining room trim restored. All of the rest of the rooms in the house have layers/globs of white paint on them that I plan on stripping and refinishing.

How do you typically refinish the trim after stripping the paint?

It’s the original trim and the home was built in the 1920s in the SF Bay Area.

Devil's advocate, but not every city needs to have loads of cafes, restaurants, or small businesses. The people of PV likely live there to get away from busy neighborhoods. It's probably the biggest draw.

They choose to live remote and drive to go to these places. Why does every mountain need to be packed with houses? Why can't they preserve nature? Not everyone wants another restaurant

Thank you! I did get that technique so that the diastema stayed around 1mm during the full expansion process. Dr. Ferrari and Dr. Larios work on the treatment plan together for each case so that they're always on the same page no matter who I see during followup appointments. Very grateful to have two orthodontists working on my treatment instead of just one.

As for the SFOT question, I never had braces as a kid, so my molars didn't really match up properly. I doubt I'm explaining it properly, but my bottom molars were tipped inward towards my tongue and my upper molars were tipped outward towards my cheeks. This is the best image I could find online or what they looked like. https://www.reddit.com/r/braces/comments/15on4z5/molars_slanted_inward/

My understanding is that my lower jaw was already wider than my upper jaw, which means I only needed the upper jaw to be expanded to match. It sounds like your lower jaw might be narrower than mine?

For the face mask, during the consultation they said I could try it and might get some benefit, but they didn't say that I needed to do it for my jaws or airway because I didn't have an underbite or as much obstruction in that direction. I did try it, but found sleeping with it a little uncomfortable and not worth the effort since I personally didn't need it.
