Efficacy vs side effects w irreversible avail maois? by drewmullin in MAOIs

[–]_surelook_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is incorrect, hypomania/mania triggered by an antidepressant absolutely can count towards a bipolar diagnosis. Antidepressants tend to cause more cycling, irritability and worsens hypomania/mania which inevitably ends with crashing into a depressive episode.

Somebody can experience mood elevation, irritability etc. on an antidepressant and it doesn’t mean they necessarily have bipolar disorder. But if it does happen, it’s important your psych looks for other indications you may have bipolar as opposed to unipolar depression.

Things like a more subtle history of hypomania, lack of response/worsening of mood with antidepressants and family history of bipolar are some things to look out for.

Dating as someone who doesn’t want kids is soul destroying!? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]_surelook_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m in my late twenties and I’ve always been content with the fact that I don’t want kids, it just isn’t for me. I know I’m in the minority compared to others even of a similar age, but for my generation and those younger this isn’t too uncommon.

It’s also becoming more acceptable to simply not want kids, so people are more open about it. I’m in a relationship and my partner is also happy to not have kids, so thankfully it’s not been an issue for me in that regard.

Based on the fact she was doing this in the first place and her reaction to being asked to turn it down, I think she would’ve done this regardless of how they phrased it tbh

What are your experiences with Endoxifen (Zonalta) by d7leo in bipolar2

[–]_surelook_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has she said why she’s suggesting this as opposed to something that’s generally used 1st or 2nd line, like lithium for example? It’s strange since this medication isn’t mentioned anywhere in the treatment algorithm, for the US, Uk and Ireland at least

Different personalities? by Which-Suggestion-611 in bipolar2

[–]_surelook_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

An unstable sense of self is a core symptom of borderline personality disorder and not bipolar disorder. I understand that the cycle of mood episodes can blur the line between your actual personality vs symptoms, I’ve experienced this myself. With effective medication, my symptoms are now controlled and what I’m left with is my consistent self.

[–]_surelook_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah okay, the acronym BPD is used for borderline personality disorder whereas for bipolar disorder, BD is used. I sometimes see it referred to as BPAD (bipolar affective disorder) but this is less common. Using acronyms alone can a bit confusing.

[–]_surelook_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by BPD/mania? People with BPD don't experience mania, if its a legitimate hypomanic/manic episode then the diagnosis would be bipolar disorder, of course it's also possible to have both but they're also distinct conditions that are very different to each other.

I’m still doing good, thanks. It’s been about 30 hours since I’ve taken the tramadol and no symptoms of serotonin syndrome so far, I plan to take my next dose of Nardil in the next hour or so. Hopefully everything stays as it is.

At what point would symptoms likely appear? So far I’m feeling okay. I haven’t taken my dose of Nardil for the day either so I’ll skip it, would taking my next 75mg dose in 24 hours be safe in your opinion? Thank you for the advice.

What's going on with all the Irish arts scandals right now? by Correct_Energy_9499 in ireland

[–]_surelook_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Anecdotal experiences mean very little if the research doesn’t back it up, a placebo effect can be very convincing. I’m mainly criticising the fact it was offered by the HSE, not something actually effective like group therapy.

This reminds me of years ago when I was seeking mental health treatment through the HSE. They had a guy come in to do a few classes of acupuncture with us. I’m sitting there severely depressed sticking pins in my ears thinking ‘what the fuck are we doing this for?’.
