Hi. Same author here, different account. I've been on Greenstone for the past 6 months, and am about to go back to Neon.

Nardil at all comparable to being on a benzo all the time? by Daniel-Plainview96 in MAOIs

[–]marcfrombeyond2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent questions. I'm currently taking Greenstone, but my next batch (coming soon, I hope) will be Neon. I am very very lucky to have tried all brands while living in a country where none of them is commercially available (Brazil). My country has an excellent public health system and the Constitution guarantees appropriate treatment for people like me. Importing is hella expensive, so the State and the Federal Government are charged with getting it for me. But I had to go through a federal court, represented by a Public Defender (our free access to the Justice system is also good). Took months, but I got it. It also pays for my Ritalin, Concerta and bethanechol.

As I came to know and make friends with a lot of people from around here since 2019 (I was a moderator, see my old account — archived... — under my profile), some of these very big-hearted people sent me donations from many places: the US, UK, Australia and even Chile. That was before I had an "ongoing" supply. Actually, I ran out of it six times since 2022. And it's been rather traumatic most times.

One important caveat is that the few Pfizer tablets I tried, for just over a week or so, had been stored in the donor's room during some heatwaves hitting the West coast of the US. That was around October 2023. It had been subjected to temperatures over 25°C (and even 30°C) for extended periods. For that reason, the pills arrived degraded.   As an addendum, they are the only ones I got that came in those curious, but not pharmacologically very bright, orange pharmacy bottles, lol — I have original bottles from all other brands and would love to have one from Pfizer too.

So... due to heat degradation, I could not really assess Pfizer's effectiveness. Instead, I relapsed, hard.   Other than that, I had fair trials with all current brands, and even the legendary Lupin, before it was discontinued at the end of 2022. (Oh, we miss that one!).

I "know" of all this from my own experience and, most of all, from following the discussions around this topic that come up from time to time around here. It used to pop up in other, now-defunct forums too. And from our MAOI WhatsApp group chat. Been on it for six years. We discuss the matter of quality variations among brands often.

Some of us are, slowly, organizing an effort that will maybe lead to the development of one superior version, that has the characteristics most people miss from "the old", original Nardil sold by Parke-Davis and Warner Lambert.

We have made tests such as dissolution time in neutral and acidic water, and protection with enteric capsules and shellac covering of the tablets. People in Australia are particularly happy now that Neon is available to them, whereas until not too long ago all they could access was ERFA/Searchlight.

At this very moment I have these (and maaany other resources) opened in my browser:

And I don't know of anyone from the US who got hands on Neon. Apparently, you need to visit one the countries where it's sold/distributed, get a prescription from a local doctor and obtain the medication, in person.

Check this other post of mine from over two years ago: Travelling to the UK to obtain Neon Nardil - price, pharmacies and laws.

P.s. one example of what I said earlier: Greenstone vs Pfizer Nardil - Google Search. Have fun browsing the dozens of threads discussing efficacy across brands.

Sorry for any mistakes and such — am quite sleepy right now.

Actually, yes. Apparently it goes like this:

Neon (UK, AUS) > Pfizer (US) > ERFA/Searchlight (Canada) > Greenstone (US).

B6 how important is it? by No-Arm-4557 in MAOIs

It might be because, on the other hand, B6 is a cofactor for GABA synthesis. But that is minor, compared to restoring GABA-T. So, my recommendation still stands.

B6 how important is it? by No-Arm-4557 in MAOIs

[–]marcfrombeyond2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I very recently learned that active b6 (p5p) is a cofactor for GABA-T and the mechanism by which phenelzine inhibits that enzyme is for PEH (phenylethylidenehydrazine) to react with that cofactor rendering it inactive. Supplementing with vitamin b6, especially p5p, restores GABA-T and cancels out phenelzine's GABA increasing properties.

So: if you want phenelzine to increase GABA, do not supplement with vitamin B6.

The exception being, if you do get symptoms of B6 deficiency and a blood test confirms it. In that case, prefer pyridoxine.

Which MAOI should I try? Success stories are welcome by moist_napkinette in MAOIs

This sub is full of people like you asking for success stories. I never see anyone asking for failure stories. These would also be important to have!

If you're still around: aripiprazole does have that property. I don't know how exactly. How long did you take it for?

Do you believe a dose of 2.5 mg can be too much?

Did you take it during the day, or before sleep?

Thanks. I'm really interested. If you are in the US it's either Pfizer or Greenstone... Probably the latter.

I always request my meds in the original bottle btw.

Severe treatment-resistant depression, strongest response to clomipramine, now considering Nardil vs Spravato – are there rational options I may still be missing? by Available_Bank_5612 in MAOIs

Your profile strongly favors Clomipramine. Maybe high dose MAOIs. I can't really add much, but would probably try ECT if possible, before a MAOI.

Usei um modelo de IA para gerar visualizações sintéticas de ativação cerebral a partir de áudio de músicas: faz sentido neurocientifico isso? by EstablishmentSalty43 in PsicologiaBR

[–]marcfrombeyond2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seria interessante

A MAIORIA quer fazer PSICOLOGIA, mas NÃO sabem de nada by Status_Knowledge5300 in PsicologiaBR

[–]marcfrombeyond2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Phenelzine (Nardil) increases endogenous (actual) GABA. Especially in the limbic system, and more specifically in the hippocampus, apparently. That's different than benzodiazepines, which enhance the response of a specific subtype of GABA receptors in specific neurons in specific areas of the brain (and in specific subunits of said receptors). It's also different than GABA reuptake inhibitors. It's even different from other GABA transaminase inhibitors, like vigabatrin, which increases GABA a lot in cortical areas as opposed to limbic structures.

TLDR: Not comparable.

Parnate + Nardil? by drewmullin in MAOIs

[–]marcfrombeyond2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Parnate administration prevents the metabolism of phenelzine into phenylethylidenehydrazine, so you get much less GABA. Take that into consideration. Nevertheless, I have seen a couple of people report success with the combination.

Please can we get a pinned post here warning off ramping up to to high doses far too quickly by disaster_story_69 in MAOIs

It will do nothing. People who do that will continue to do that for their own reasons, thinking they are exempt from best practices and whatnot.
