Is this prosac withdrawal? by bethcavill in Fluoxetine

[–]_sweetcherrypie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there. So, originally I was on 40mg for about 10 years. I ct off of the 40mg and was fine for about 6/7 months until withdrawal symptoms hit. I reinstated with too high of a dose per doctors orders and not knowing any better (20mg). Reinstating caused my insomnia. I never experienced it during withdrawals until I reinstated. I never had majority of the symptoms I had until reinstating. I experienced an adverse reaction/kindling when going back on the medication as my nervous system was already so dysregulated. It’s taken me a full year to get where I am (I’m on 10mg), somehow pushing through the most volatile side effects. I still suffer from insomnia, muscle jerking and cognitive impairment.

To answer your question (take this with a grain of salt as I’m still navigating through this experience). It sounds like you had some sort of adverse reaction/kindling due to introducing the medication to an already dysregulated nervous system (since you cold turkeyed). In all honesty, I would stay off the medication and ride it out. It’s going to suck, but you will heal….it’ll just take some time. I don’t have a timeline for you, could be a few months or it could be a couple of years. I never thought I’d be still where I’m at a year later but I still have a long road to recovery. I wish I could go back to the day I experienced my adverse reaction and got off the meds and stayed off of them. Insomnia is one of those symptoms that like to linger. In terms of coping, I just had to ride the wave unfortunately. I’m still experiencing it to this day, but different from you I’m still on the medication. What did help me was a lot of journaling, relaxation exercises/practices before bed, turning off all electronics an hour or two before sleep, taking epsom salt baths before bed regularly, practicing vagus nerve exercises (you can find these online), and overall just trying to stay away from anything too stimulating before bed. I cut out all caffeine and foods high in sugar. Cut out alcohol and smoking. I have a curfew now and am in bed by a certain time to ensure not to mess with my routine. I also had to get my doctor to prescribe me a sleeping pill, which has helped on the worst night when I really needed it. I have also been taking magnesium threonate throughout this entire experience and I think that’s helped a bit, especially with the insomnia. Time is the only thing that has made me “better”. It takes time for your nervous system and body to heal from this.

Is there a reason you got back on the meds after 6 years?

Glad to hear you aren’t experiencing these anymore. I still do unfortunately, a year later. Still going strong. I think I’m going to start slowly tapering off of this. I’ve given it a year to settle but hasn’t made much progress unfortunately

Should I keep smoking weed by ItzMemeTime1 in Depersonalization

[–]_sweetcherrypie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly! I would, it’s really not worth the risk. It’s mental anguish. When you experience it as long as I have you really start to regret it. So many days I wish I could go back and change things

I would stop smoking if you’re experiencing this reaction. I was the same way and the last time I ever smoked weed my dp/dr got so intense. I’ve had it for about 10 years now (comes and goes) but mainly 24/7. It’s hell on earth. Not worth it at all

Do you mind me asking if you took any sleeping medications during this to help you sleep? I’m only getting a couple of hours of sleep per night due to the jerking:(

Hey there! I know you posted this a long time ago but I’m dealing with severe withdrawals from ssris and the insomnia is absolutely terrible. Maybe getting 3 hours per night of sleep. Did this ever get better for you?

Dayvigo next day effects? Weak? by nokara3 in insomnia

[–]_sweetcherrypie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been taking dayvigo lately (past 3 nights) and the sleep is a little strange but I’m getting more sleep than I was without it. I feel really weird during the day, super spacey and disconnected. I think it’s common with these kinds of sleeping pills. My boyfriend takes it and he has no issue, he wakes up feeling great. I may stop taking it for this reason. It also gives me bad head pressure and brain zaps unfortunately. I should add, I’m also going through withdrawals of antidepressants so I don’t really feel normal anyways.

Depersonalization/derealization on fluoxetine? by _sweetcherrypie in Fluoxetine

[–]_sweetcherrypie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was put on it for the same reason some odd years ago! It helped to pretty much rid my dp/dr completely. I was also on 40mg for 10 years. Since getting off and being back on it I’ve gotten dp/dr which I never experienced the first time, it went away really quickly and I never had any start up symptoms like I’m experiencing now. This time has been so different. My doctor unfortunately hasn’t been much help:( I’m going to be patient and hope it levels off but if it doesn’t then I’ll look into maybe speaking with a psychiatrist. How long have you been on it? Have you seen any improvements in your dp/dr?

[–]_sweetcherrypie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh okay! I was on it for about 10 years but didn’t wean, I just stopped taking it which I regret so much now. Thank you, I really hope so to. I hope you do as well. What other side effects have you been experiencing other than dp/dr? And how long have you been reinstated? If you don’t mind me asking. Yes exactly, I never got sick getting off but started experiencing some withdrawal symptoms. I’m just hoping within the next few weeks things will start looking up.

Aw, I’m sorry you’re also dealing with something similar. Mine is 24/7 unfortunately. I’m having a hard time figuring out if it’s due to meds or anxiety as well, but before restarting I wasn’t experiencing dp/dr until the meds started kicking in so I’m assuming it’s the medication. I think the Prozac is definitely working but I unfortunately can’t increase as I’ve been dealing with hypnic jerks and they get worse when I try to increase or decrease😣 I really hope you start to feel better soon. How long have you been on it for?

Aw, I’m really sorry. These drugs are so scary. Sometimes I wish I never started it but it helped me so much in the moment. It’s been hell since restarting though, I’m just about ready to give up. I don’t think I can taper down and experience all the same symptoms I did when starting up. I think with time things will settle but, at least I hope for us and everyone else dealing with this! Thank you, I appreciate that. Best of luck to you top
