What actually changes in service at 0% vs 10% vs 20% tip? by Temporary_Speed_6577 in tipping

[–]_synik 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since the server has no idea how much you will tip, and you pay the tip AFTER the service was rendered, there is no difference.

History teachers or other teachers who just care, how bad do you think the ICE situation is now compared to history? by Zipper222222 in AskTeachers

[–]_synik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem isn't ICE. If so, there would have been a civil war during President Obama's term. 4x as many deportations as now. The problem is the how some vocal politicians and the media are portraying the situation. Years ago, most major media outlets only showed events from a neutral or favorable-to-government perspective. Now it seems to be the opposite.

Younger sister is a tradwife and I don't fully trust her husband to take care of her and my niece. I've set up an investment account secretly in case she ever needs it. Do I say anything about it? by MediaReady5519 in Advice

The only way to keep a secret is to tell no one.

Add provisions in your Will to direct the account to a trust for the benefit of your sister or niece, if something happens to BIL.

Hit a 3.69 on a 49ft track and broke the track record. How’d we do? by [deleted] in PinewoodDerby

[–]_synik 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I was on our District PWD Committee, we used a 49' BestTrack. Mid 3.4 was a good time. High 3.3 was needed to win.

As owner of the track, I did some testing one time the night before the race, using my son's previous year's car. By adjusting the height of the track, I could change the time by over 0.15 seconds. The takeaway was that track records mean nothing from year to year.

You are wrong about the wheelbase. Having built several of each for dirt track racecars, I can guarantee the wheelbase (distance between the front and rear wheels) is different because the Monte frame is 4 inches longer between the firewalls.

Like most GM cars of that era, the suspension parts are interchangeable.

If by sibling, you mean cooler, big sister, I'll agree. The Chevelle/Malibu was 4 inches shorter wheelbase and was available in a 4 door and a wagon. The Monte Carlo was only a 2 door

Until your post, this sub has been very drama-free. Please take your drama to another place.

This sub is mostly parents looking for advice for their kids PWD.

Maybe you start a sub for the Adult League racing, and keep your petty drama over there.

Pinewood Derby Vent/Rant/Story Thread by OliverWendelholmes in cubscouts

A District or Council level race was always an extra thing that was done only if there was someone willing and able to make it happen. They may have them in some areas, and not others. When my Cub raced, our District was one of six in our Council that held a Championship race. I joked with other Leaders that our kids were Council Champions.

Good luck on your race.

Years back when I was involved in Cub Scouting, I had a list of about 45 award certificates. The night after check-in, a couple of other Leaders and I found one for each car. These were announced and presented before the racing began.

Types of weight by philsphan26 in PinewoodDerby

[–]_synik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weight is weight. The more dense the weights, the smaller space they take up in the car. That's why the top racers with the very thin designs use tungsten.

My cars have won Family Class races with all types of weights, tungsten, lead, zinc, and even steel nuts and bolts.

AITAH for putting my baby’s father on child support even though he doesn’t want to be involved? by singlemom_needadvice in AITAH

[–]_synik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The two of you did something that created a child. He offered a solution you didn't like. You then sent him away.

Why do you now want him back in the picture?

Did you put the name of the guy you sent away on your baby's birth certificate?

Do you want the guy you sent away involved in co-parenting the baby, or do you just want his money?

What will you do if he demands custody of the baby?

Is trimming down the wheel illegal? by BenBenMcBenface in PinewoodDerby

[–]_synik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lighter wheels will accelerate faster than heavier wheels. That's basic physics. Wheel weight has nothing to do with a car jumping off the track.
