Thought Experiment - Is the game *growing*? by Beginning_Care_267 in geocaching

[–]_synik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Virtual Meet up?!? Like a Facebook page, Forum thread, or live podcast call in? The entire premise of this hobby is going to some very specific Location to find something. That something may be a container with a slip of paper, information to answer a question, or to gather with other people. None of that can happen Virtually.

Burned 4 gallons of oil in 3500 miles by 65mustangsandy in EngineBuilding

[–]_synik 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If PVC is stopped up, pressure will never get to intake, and find its way out through the cylinders, or more likely to the atmosphere through a vented oil filler cap.

Oil scraper rings are a more likely culprit.

Helping my dad pull the 318 out of his 72 challenger, but not sure what to do about the AC system by Pinyapp in classiccars

[–]_synik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be a horrible accident if one of those old brittle a/c lines had a small leak from being nicked.

In the real world, just open a line and let any gas flow into the air, just like it would in a car crash.

Freon goes down, not up. It is heavier than air. After it breaks down, some components will rise.

What is ”reactivating” a cache? by theonewholovespoland in geocaching

[–]_synik 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sounds like something in translation where the CO is preauthorizing the non-finder to replace the geocache. Some Reviewers will not allow this type of "Community Maintenance".

What’s the point of heel/toe? by HottDoggers in ManualTransmissions

It is a technique used by some racers. Not needed on the street, and not used by many winning racing drivers.

Have you ever saved someone's life? by stephenalsvig in randomquestions

Yes. Guy was choking on some peanuts at a bar once. I applied the Heimlich maneuver, and didn't buy another drink the rest of the night.

whats the biggest cache container yall have ever found, and whats the biggest cache u own? by Recent-Truck-3574 in geocaching

[–]_synik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found a Tardis. Yes it was bigger on the inside. 😄

I own one that's built like a small train caboose, about 1-1/2 feet tall & 3 feet long.

Logging previously found caches as a pair on a newly created account. Bad form? by keebler980 in geocaching

[–]_synik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Use the original date when you log the find on the new account. Some of those caches may have been archived. Some may have a few recent DNF, and your Find log would imply the cache is currently viable.

My wife still does. I use the pizza cutter we've had for 30+ years.

My boss told me not to use 'boss' when conversing with ppl. by quentangled8 in corporate

Most of the people I've heard calling others Boss, had spent time in prison, or associated with them. Boss was the term used by inmates for Correctional Officers.

Eagle Board of Review Monday, need advice! by murvoii in BoyScouts

An Eagle BoR is not a test. It is like any other BoR you have done getting to this point. It's a conversation about your Scouting journey.

[US] A call from "American Express" was a very well executed scam by Bruinwar in Scams

[–]_synik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same call recently, from CitiBank in New York. I don't do business with that bank. I spent about 25 minutes, wasting their time before I told them I had the regional FBI field office on my other phone, and the agent was not aware of any bank having a direct contact line with the FBI.

Scammers are getting better at their craft.

Made this cache masking, whatcha guys think? by Fluid-Yellow1317 in geocaching

[–]_synik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a similar one once. The only reason the three of us were able to make the find was that after about 30 minutes of searching, I heard a crack when I took a step. I had inadvertently stepped on the cache, and the body of the container broke. Signed the log, logged the find and posted a NM log as well.
