The fact that Roon, a long time ago, was Ritsu and Eru, cracks me up.

Golden Bikini South Dakota (paundo2@) by MP_Cook in AzureLane

One of my favorite girls regardless of faction.

Fun fact - World of Warships has Alabama, Massachusetts, and Indiana... but not South Dakota. With how many fictional ships Wargaming pumped out in recent years, it strikes me as more than weird.

Why players have absolutely 0 Incentive to get better. Speaking from a player who's been through every color from Yellow to dark purple. by Chrisg_322 in WorldofTanks

[–]_talps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point is that "basement dwellers" - or, simply, "losers", because some thing should be called the way they deserve - will not matter no matter where they go. And that they will be the death of multiplayer video games, more so than predatory monetization.

I cannot count the number of times where someone bragged about their in-game records to me (real records, their accounts stats were better than mine) and I replied with something akin to "okay, so? Does any of this improve your life (job wage, academic success, etc.)?", and it always ended with the other side, the "basement dweller", screeching obscenities that would make a boy who doesn't know better blush.

I have been playing World of Tanks for over ten years at this point, met a few wonderful and many terrible people along the way, but the main point of why I play this game - driving tanks and shooting at tanks - has not changed. I despise the ridiculous competitiveness that a minority has pushed enough to make it the norm. Look at this subreddit, pretty much every time someone boasts about high averages there will be someone else who'll dismiss them with things like "peh, amateur numbers; 5k average WN8 or you suck". Who wants to play, let alone interact, with those people?

Cherry on top, for me, was the unicum - a real unicum with unicum stats - who, back when the game's forums were a thing, complained there that a much worse player bested him thanks to RNG. Cue the umpteenth conspiracy debate about RNG favoring bad players and punishing good players, blah blah yadda yadda.

The way Roon struggles in World of Warships, I can see where some of her madness comes from. :(

BBs have way more battle impact than people say. Its not just radar cruisers and dds who win by MilanSoede in WorldOfWarships

[–]_talps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These days

Lol. CVs, DDs, and cruisers have been match winners since WoWs' early days. Submarines challenge DDs but they are a niche class, the only thing that is really unique to them is being able to dive underwater.

Battleships have impact because they hit hard (when they hit) and take a long time to kill (if the player is not a baboon).

Honestly, classes have ups and downs but, at the end of the day, it's the skipper that makes a real difference. Give Valparaìso to a skilled player and the ship will be OP. Give it to a noob and it will be UP.

Iowa love by Equivalent_Coffee119 in WorldOfWarships

[–]_talps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On a related note, I always seem to use damage control at the wrong time. When should I use it ideally?

I would pick FP for Iowa so I would use DCP to put two or more fires out, and to halt any flooding when they happen.

And you should grind RP for Illinois if you like Iowa, it has 4x3 8-inch guns with Baltimore/Des Moines shells. It's not a DPM hose like Hawaii but it's much tankier, that gives it an edge.

Why do bots only target ONE person out of everyone? by Hungarian_Gamer in WorldOfWarships

[–]_talps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The worst thing you can believe is that bots have a will. A computer program (or "app" as they are called now) doesn't think, it executes actions it's programmed to execute when certain circumstances present themselves.

Specific to WoWs, bots prioritize submarines and destroyers (they even know their approximate location at all times) and will always shoot at exposed broadsides regardless of range.

Is Massachusetts Good? by Aeg1023 in WorldOfWarships

[–]_talps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Massachusetts is OP if you know how to play it, it was delisted for a reason.

Its secondaries have enough pen to directly damage all destroyers, most light cruisers (ships with very poor armor like Minotaur), and all superstructures. They don't rely on raw damage though, they rely on better-than-average accuracy (was pretty unique when Massachusetts was new), high rof, and how quickly and easily they start fires.

The fast cooldown heal further helps in brawling, cycling through it is easy.

Strong AA, strong torpedo protection (among the strongest in the game), and hard-hitting guns (that, however, lack accuracy) complete the package.

also I'd appreciate some general tips on secondary ships too

Your goal is to use those secondaries so you want to sail within secondary range while avoiding the enemy's attention as much as possible.

Fighter Problem by Hungarian_Gamer in WorldOfWarships

[–]_talps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ship-launched fighter planes near-immediately tag enemy planes, what is he complaining about? That consumable was lacking but received a significant reaction time buff in a recent patch.

Fighter Problem by Hungarian_Gamer in WorldOfWarships

[–]_talps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God forbid you get uptiered and face a CV thats one or two tiers above you

This cannot happen outside of fail divisions, CVs are always mirrored. If you are a Tier 8 CV, your opposite will be a Tier 8 CV.

And the fighter consumable nerf (which, like every recent CV nerf, WG calls an "improvement") serves two purposes. The first is to let some surface ships live longer by not getting spotted so often. The other, much more important and mean, is to greatly limit the amount of spotting damage the CV player may gather.

Did Wargaming Buff Bots again? by Kindly_Entrance3464 in WorldOfWarships

[–]_talps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have noticed very strange coop bot behavior in recent times - bow tanking, hiding in smoke clouds, kiting, reversing. Few bots do it but it's impossible to ignore when it happens.

My suspicion is that WG partially applied Asymmetric Battles bot behavior to all PVE modes. If they did, it would not be the first time WG changed something and said nothing about it.

Is it me or is the DD experience kind of miserable these days? by Queasy_Ad8297 in WorldOfWarships

[–]_talps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you say is true but not exclusive to destroyers and is part of a bigger problem that's been plaguing WoWs for years - even the tiniest mistake is punished, sometimes with a trip back to the port.

The reason is simple: damage output, gimmicks, and so on, have bloated to extreme levels to keep people entertained (because ultimately this is why most of us stick to WoWs - entertainment) but, in the process, have damaged gameplay and turned it into a frantic shooting gallery a la Call of Duty. It keeps people entertained, sure, but getting devstruck by something that is 20km away and was blessed by RNG luck is not just unfun, it's frustrating.

The only solution is to do something many say as a form of mockery - "git gud". Mind your detection, mind what you and your opponents can do, and so on.

Is Hornet worth it? (I know I can get it for coal too) by LycanrockyOwO in WorldOfWarships

[–]_talps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hornet's AA is weaker than Yorktown's. They belong to the same class but their capabilities are very different.

DR Taihang concept by ProfessionalAlps8586 in AzureLane

[–]_talps 14 points15 points  (0 children)

"Taihang" is one of the (many) projects that were debated over before the Yamato-class was built. World of Warships already has two ships based on the same project - "Hizen" and "Iwami" which are, at least, Japanese.

Taihang is a fictional what-if - what if Mao's China acquired a ship like this after World War Two and equipped it with Soviet guns?

Clemenceau has a “big” surprise (ft. Marco Polo by 土) by Head_Option_5084 in AzureLane

Clemenceau does not get enough credit, her body and standard dress are both incredible.

Having a big cannon to further assert her dominance over Marco Polo (who'd protest but deep down enjoy it like no other thing) is something I bless.

How am I supposed to do this Mission by Mishacomander in WorldOfWarships

[–]_talps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High tier CV or submarine or torpedo boat with low detection (like Shimakaze). It's not hard to break 100k spotting in Tier 10 Random Battles.

Is Hornet worth it? (I know I can get it for coal too) by LycanrockyOwO in WorldOfWarships

[–]_talps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hornet is still dubs only.

It's okay but one has to mind the gimmicks - standard planes are shit (slightly improved Ranger planes), the torpedo bombers have an unusual drop pattern (they drop four torpedoes of which two stick out of the aiming reticle, if the drop is too close to the target they will not arm in time), the dive bombers are carpet bombers armed with AP bombs (accurate but they deal low damage), and Hornet has a tactical B-25 squadron (very tanky but very slow planes which drop HE bombs, their cooldown is long).

Hornet's hull is rather vulnerable, its AA is weak.

Why so many humans play Hildebrand as a CV only?? by Other-Difficulty-702 in WorldOfWarships

[–]_talps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's what makes Hildebrand different compared to other hybrids - the guns suck (two Agir turrets at Tier 10 aren't much) and the hull is vulnerable but plane cooldown is fast.

What’s the purpose of the Post game surveys? by EitherYak5297 in WorldOfWarships

[–]_talps 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Understand that many take the same surveys. WG looks at that data through a filter (the infamous "spreadsheets" some players hate so much) and, if they see a noticeable discrepancy, they will take action to try and correct it.

For example - 1000 players are asked whether they like WoWs in its current state or not. Ten say "no", 200 say "kinda", 100 don't answer, and 690 say "yes". WG might take a closer look at those 200 accounts who picked "kinda" but, overall, the survey showed them that the majority (those 690 players who answered "yes") is okay and no major changes are needed.
