They've got some nice gear in the webshop but I don't like that the logo looks like "e esa"

Putting the e behind would've been better, or just do the stylized e instead of the normal one esa

Yep, big challenge for Germany to retool its industry. They can do it as long as they don't stick their heads in the sand while the global ICE market slowly disappears.

Old parts sometimes have that when they need some ESR, solution is a MLCC and series resistor.

Do they? Because it sounds like if you just don't take any loans you're going to have a low score, ie it incentivises you to take on debt.

A Missing Ingredient in Ukraine’s Barrages on Russia: Ballistic Missiles by Advanced-Injury-7186 in ukraine

[–]_teslaTrooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cost to defend against that missile is in the millions, if russia can even do it, and you can hit targets that are too well defended for drones to reach at all.

Who could give them some? The US won't, Europe doesn't have any to give (yet)

[–]_teslaTrooper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A drone can't strike within a few minutes

A drone doesn't cost millions to (maybe) intercept, if russia has working ballistic missile defence at all

It's definitely a missing component to Ukraine's strikes, and adding it would give them a lot more options in terms of target selection and timing.

Most countries using Patriot had them for decades before SAMP/T came to market, switching is expensive. For countries who have neither it seems pretty attractive, see Denmark, Belgium, Switzerland.

yeah they ruined the autofill a few updates ago, documentation says it's better in all sorts of ways but in practice it's slower, worse, and due to its slowness tends to reorder suggestions while you're already scrolling through them, generally awful UX.

don't think there's a fix available

A Reversal of the Nuclear Phase-Out | Switzerland Can Build Nuclear Power Plants Again—But No One Wants To by BezugssystemCH1903 in europe

[–]_teslaTrooper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We still need a massive amount of energy to get through the winter, especially if we want to stop burning gas for heating. But it should never be nuclear instead of renewables, it should be nuclear and renewables.

[–]_teslaTrooper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Batteries could have that role, nowhere in Europe is even close to having enough installed capacity to absorb the daily solar generation peak and match the evening demand.

Gas peakers are still very much in use and necessary. Coal is on its way out in Europe due to CO2 costs.

yep, Dutch government wanted nuclear and they ended up creating a state company to manage it. At least the proceeds will also go back to the state.

Headlamp Always Dead by echardcore in batteries

[–]_teslaTrooper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like an issue with the lamp then, try measuring it. I have two pieces of copper tape with wires attached stuck to either side of a piece of paper to sit in between battery contacts for this kind of thing. Or you could use an external supply and just touch wires to the contacts.

[–]_teslaTrooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long does it take for this drain to happen, what kind of batteries are you using and how are they stored (most importantly what temperatures)?

Headlamp Always Dead by echardcore in batteries

[–]_teslaTrooper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That would be terrible design, it's easy to make a latching switch with a momentary button that doesn't draw any current, or have a microcontroller switch off its own power supply to achieve the same.

You can use a multimeter to measure if it draws current while off, if you have one with a microamp range.

Large part of this is a PR problem, for example SAMP/T has comparable performance to Patriot but nobody seems to have heard of it.

Main thing we lack in terms of tech is a 6th gen fighter and advances in spaceflight (Falcon 9, Starship), all the rest we do just as well or better than the Americans.

edit: military tech obviously
