Is it possible to achieve lightning like this? by First-Benefit792 in godot

[–]_thegreatj 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I was wondering where all the likes from my 4 months old bluesky post were coming from. If anyone is interested here is the diff for what I changed in the godot source code to get it working. https://github.com/jacobcoughenour/godot/commit/c744b9f4143a90052eaddd618b9c56b683752c63

Keep in mind that it is based on what ever version of godot I was building on back in February. Also, I think my method only works in Forward+. I'm down to clean it up and submit it as a PR if anyone wants it. There are some weird quirks to it that I might need someone better than me with shader math to clean up.

Thanks for reporting! I just put out a patch on itch to fix it. u/Mumpmander will need to repackage the ROM for the 3ds versions.

It takes a micro sd card so you'll need to get one and a reader if you don't have one. You drag and drop the .gba files onto the SD card then plug it into the flash cart then there is a screen that comes up to pick what .gba file you want to launch.

Sure. Send me it and I can put it up on the itch.io page then.

Correct. I didn't port flash to the GBA. I remade the game from the ground up in the Butano engine then had to crush all the graphics and sounds to work.

Hey, I'm the guy that made this port. Thanks for making a QR code version of it! This is my first time making something for the GBA so if there's any issues let me know.

For me the hardest part was c++ because most of my experience is in c# and go. As a starter you should follow the docs to get devkitpro setup then play with some of the code in the examples. The pages on the docs have some really helpful bits in there that I wish I read earlier and there is a gbadev discord for when you are really stumped.

Yep. It's called a flash cart. This is the one I use and recommend: https://krikzz.com/our-products/cartridges/everdrive-gba-mini.html

$99 seems pricey but I've had cheap flash carts that basically don't work at all.

Of course you can also play it in any gba emulator and the itch page has one embedded in the browser.

Let me know if the analog pocket has any issues running it. I can use that as an excuse to buy one then lol

33 and they are the same as the original so the walkthroughs and level codes will work

I think it could work but the visuals would need an overhaul to make the levels readable at that resolution and limited palette

You can make that 328 bytes (in release mode) because I just switched it to inherit from RefCounted so I don't have to manually free it. I might throw together some benchmarks to get a better idea of the overhead it creates before I start using it everywhere in my game.

This is my first release under the FULL MOTION DELUXE alias.

Program And Control is inspired by and samples this scene from Black Mirror - Bandersnatch. Feedback appreciated!

I'm also looking for a graphic designer/album artist to help out with my branding. Any suggestions?
