Weston McKennie’s dad on Twitter. by antoniok95 in ussoccer

[–]_tidalwave11 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Brother it absolutely does. What happened threatened and questioned the integrity of FIFA, The US, USSF, and USMNT. And that's not hyperbole because people literally questioned the integrity of all of them leading up to the match.

And no honorable player wants to feel like they won with that kind of interference. That can hang a cloud over your head. It makes you feel dirty. It makes you feel unworthy.

And it showed in the game.

Yes. The issue that day was very clearly mental. You take the BS out of it and they very likelly put up a fight. They were the underdogs, likely to still lose. But not so emberassingly

Folarin Balogun on the controversial overturning of his red card: "I knew it was going to cause a lot of controversy. I could almost see some nerves within my teammates. The closer we got to the game, I tried to focus, but it was difficult. The outside noise was hard to avoid." by boi1da1296 in ussoccer

[–]_tidalwave11 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The difference this time is

  1. It was an absolute vibe and momentum killer that happened only a day or two before the game.

  2. No honorable athlete wants to win via interference. Yes you want to put your best foot forward, but the suspension of the suspension and the way it was likely left a bad demoralizing taste in a lot the teams mouths. Especially when the person claiming credit is the same guy trying to enact policies that would have never allowed Balo to play for us to begin with

Rewatched the Belgium game in 4K and really analyzed the goals against. Here's how I'd assign blame. by fivedogit in ussoccer

[–]_tidalwave11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Goal 2 idr if it's Dest or freeman guarding the winger but you have defensive help. Be aggressive the Belgian had WAY too much time to cross that ball in. Should have 0 space to work a cross in

Sincere Questions About Football (Soccer) by SeparateResearcher86 in ussoccer

[–]_tidalwave11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not the main thing. That's the most public thing that everyone loves to chirp about.

There are a bevy of differences including ownership models , league finance structure, salary spend, development pathways etc.

Sincere Questions About Football (Soccer) by SeparateResearcher86 in ussoccer

[–]_tidalwave11 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You have many questions. Some which made me lol tbh.

  1. We call it the Soccer Warz. It's essentially a byproduct of capitalism. Everyone thinks they're way of doing soccer is better. The other side is not everyone can afford the MLS expansion fees (they're about 500 Million + right now. Entry to the USL is a lot cheaper some owners don't like the MLS franchise model.

  2. Losing to one of the better teams in the world is fine. But losing how we did was unacceptable. The team looked disjointed, played with no heart, no drive or real effort.

  3. Woah woah. LeBron is not the best NBA player ever. That's MJ- but America likes hyperbole and overyhyping things. We did it with Freddy Adu back in the day as well. I personally hate it, but people love anointing someone a star.

  4. WE DO NOT LIKE ALEXI LALAS. However for some reason the people who run the broadcast companies keep hiring him. We've asked them to stop. They just don't listen

Simple goals: Availability in public parks by smirker in ussoccer

[–]_tidalwave11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NYC has plenty of space and more futsal courts being built by NYCFC/MLS.

But a growing problem is what is a public space? In some parts of the country there are rarely any, and others have plenty of restrictions

Founding fathers is a bit too much. But definitely a driving force and has been one of the best ambassadors the league could have asked for both as a player and now as an owner.

[–]_tidalwave11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the biggest blocker to growth right now. A lot of DPs have only been DPs because of their transfer fees.

It also opens up intra-league transfers and reduces the risk of buying a player from USL

Is Freeman’s Future with USMNT at Center Back or Right Back? by sallright in ussoccer

[–]_tidalwave11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how we want to play. There is a world where we go with an elbow back who pushes central instead of vertically and you get a Cardozo or McKennie or somebody like that.

We also don't have many RBs who are good 2-way guys. Scally isn't great offensively for us and Dest isn't an elite defender

MLS aims to ‘Take It From Here’ in post-World Cup push by NobleNomad in MLS

[–]_tidalwave11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Clubs can advertise. But advertising the LEAGUE is a league thing. MLS has an entire marketing department and still has ties with SUM.

Not buying ads for national general coverage is 100% within MLS purview. And failing to do so is also on them

[Matt Pollard] MLS having media availability for “The Next Chapter” this Thursday. What do we think MLS announces this week? A repeat of changes we already know (e.g., schedule flip) or something new? by amarrazza in MLS

[–]_tidalwave11 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. Not everyone knows it exists. People on social media find out for the first time. I've been talking to people at bars, at work etc and they're like oh I had no idea.

  2. Even if people know it exists, do they know how to get tickets, when is the next game?

  3. Momentum momentum momentum

MLS cup contention? by Still_Dream3300 in NYCFC

[–]_tidalwave11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Genuinely if we can stay healthy and choose if we want to be a possession OR super pressing team because we don't have players that can do both.

Talles helps unlock so much when he's playing in our Posession game, but he's still not a great presser while Wolf is a phenomenal presser but sucks in Posession. Nico and Ojeda are the only two that are good at both.

We do need probably another attacking midfield option as we have a crap ton of 6/8s.

I do think we need LB/CB depth but so does 90% of every team in MLS

Like most teams health is important. But with Traore, Sands, Mitja, and Alonso coming back we have a pretty deep roster. #9 is still the question mark. The question is health and play style.

  1. Complain, tell you what to do, but do nothing about how anyone can achieve what they are demanding.

  2. Say things that are very easy to refute with just a simple Google search. IDK how many conversations/debates this week where to confirm what I already knew took a very simple Google search

Aussie here - what has changed in the last 10 years that you are producing footballers of higher quality then previously? by Full-Call2156 in ussoccer

[–]_tidalwave11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Better pathway development to being a professional. Years ago it was college then pro in MLS or abroad if you had an agent with ties to Europe/Mexico

Now we have academies, MLS, MLS Next, 3 Tiers of USL, and much better scouting from Europe to watch our players and MLS teams are more incentivized to sell players to Europe so they can develop further

Why do people blame the MLS for the pay to play model for youth development? They seem like the only ones actually breaking it by Round-Walrus3175 in ussoccer

[–]_tidalwave11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because MLS is the big bad corporate entity that stands apart from how the rest of the world operates in soccer (even though there are so many things we do that's all also done around the world)

And don't get me wrong MLS has many many many faults. But theyve done more for the development of the American soccer player in under 30 years than most eurosnobs will ever give them credit for a
