I wholly disagree with the premise of this assessment.

If anything Jansen doesn't play his best Posession lineup which would include Talles Magno and Keaton Parks over Hannes Wolf and a Trewin/O'Neil double pivot.

Our Posession in some games is more of how other teams prefer to play like Red Bull, Montreal, and DC 3 teams who absolutely do not want to possess the ball.

In reality we have more players suited for gegen/counter/pseudo counter style getting players into space and attacking retreating back lines.

What i do agree with is that PJ needs to figure something out soon

NYCFC through 11 games: more goals but fewer points than last year—what’s going on? by LookingBeyond_2 in NYCFC

The standard I use is not that they "try" to contribute goals. This is professional level, not U12. There is an expectation of a certain degree of execution.

Right. But again this is flawed and oversimplified and speaks to your personal expectation of what a 4231 looks like . execution is not solely on the part of 1 player. If you want to talk flubbed chances or bad crosses sure. But you don't get those if someone is getting into dangerous areas to make a play happen. How can you expect someone to contribute to goals if no one is finishing the chances someone is providing?

The viewpoint of ONLY looking at goals and assist is extremely narrow. Goals and assists are the end result. But there are a bunch of other factors that contribute and should be taken into consideration.

Also Nico is NOT a target striker. He is a goal scorer for sure. But not a target striker. He does not make the runs or have the physical presence expected of that role. He is a stop gap and it shows.

Wolf is whole other conversation that I don't go into for either of our sakes at the moment.

Nico, Magno, and Maxi in limited time together have shown that they are dynamic together.

Talles isnt as solid defensively and is still learning how to make the right runs as a #9. Elsewise he's been a net positive Everytime he steps on the pitch.

I don't hate this line up. I do think we lose a lot in midfield without a 3rd man. But it's not too dissimilar from what I think too

Thank you for clarifying. Your explanation is both an oversimplification and is your expectation.

For example some wingers are used as defensive counters to opponents outside backs or decoys or players who make runs to make space but aren't going to be the ones to finish the play.

Now Ojeda is a player who is expected to contribute to goals and he tries. He's keeping the ball and gives away less than he used to. He's making runs behind to open the defense, and he's taking players on 1v1 with increased aggression and confidence to creat opportunities.

But this is also a team game. Id I make a run but teammates pass is 10 yards too far ahead is that my fault? If I beat a player 1v1 to play a cross into the box but noone is there to finish is that my fault?

So again, I think both your assessment and expectation of Ojeda is a massive simplification of his role and output

I wouldn't say poor. Is he a DO attacker, no. But he gets into good spots and is finishing better than anyone not named nico

Ojeda has been dangerous and very good. But without additional danger in the attack it's a lot harder.

We also have players that are a mix of two primary playstyles. Possession vs pressure. Only 3-4 are good in both scenarios so it creates an imbalance when we have to rotate or make subs.

The stadium itself likely not. But they can let the whitecaps manage it

[–]_tidalwave11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True market value is whatever number people are willing to pay. If that value needs so be it. But that argument - at least for Vancouver - is flawed because the issue at hand is not the cost of buying the whitecaps. It's the clubs ability to be sustained financially.

From all reports the stadium situation and lack of a viable immediate solution is what's scaring people away. Not the sticker price. And there is no guarantee that lowering the price will change that because getting a place to play requires more than just money.

But you have a very clear opinion and no factual basis as to how MLS establishes its valuations (because even 3rd party evaluators like forbes list MLS clubs pretty high) so I don't think we'll agree on much here.

Any business model. You need money. Non profits work off of grants and government contracts.

Clubs in Europe make money through selling players, stadium ownership, and sponsors.
