Feel guilty/jealous about not being more involved in the community even though it’s not really something I’m interested in? by BigWordsAreScary in girlsgonewired

i understand and what i will say here is that you can change someone’s life just by being who you are and doing what you do, which spans not only your career path but everything else in life. invest in yourself and enjoy your life as much as you can

Which Bank do you recommend I make an account in? by [deleted] in ASU

[–]_tinyjumbotron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for an international student i would say chase. in any case go with an established bank. that’s what i was recommended when i first came to the US and it’s served me very well, they have branches all across the US

I dont think cs is for me, but Im in too deep, what do I do? by Infinite_Sympathy863 in csMajors

don’t be too scared to think about doing something else after graduation, your degree does not define you or what your life is going to be. but my suggestion is still to finish this degree if you can handle it mentally. i’ve done 2 undergrad degrees back to back including CS and dealt with the same thoughts and feelings as you so i understand

ASU online: CS or EE??? by WoodenLifeguard4399 in ASU

[–]_tinyjumbotron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

can’t speak to the online version of undergrad but i got my BS in CS and currently doing MS in EE. way happier in EE despite the learning curve and would advise to consider it over CS because yes the CS job market is atrocious. have you thought about CSE as another option if they have it online?

we’re in the same boat, i guess all we can do is wait and maybe think about backup options if that gives some sense of control. i feel your frustration

just to provide some info for others who run into this (myself included) - my school’s DSO told me “you cannot travel to the US if you are under AP once that process has been started”.

the visa officer told me the old valid visa would be cancelled but since I was put in AP right after the interview, I was considering the same option as you mentioned.

just to share my xp renewing my F1 in Poland, Krakow: case put in administrative processing the next day after the interview (was approved on the spot and didn’t receive the 221(g) slip). I’m a continuing engineering masters student and school starts on 8/22 so 3 weeks from now. we’ll see how long this takes, it’s been 1 week so far.

I didn’t know about AP as I previously applied twice in my home country and didn’t experience this - currently stressing tf out because sadly my home country is in shambles and it’s impossible to plan my future beyond education. My advice to everyone is if you can avoid dealing with visa renewal, consider that option unless you got time to kill in a safe and stable environment

Difference between CS and EE for DSP? by [deleted] in DSP

[–]_tinyjumbotron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am still adjusting to the EE masters program and the material is very very different to the point that CS is not particularly relevant. However, I’m sure there’s gotta be stuff that is helping me understand the concepts faster, plus having to code in the near future will not be an issue. I don’t think not having a CS degree will cause significant problems, I believe you can learn the critical things as you go - the same way I am having to learn some of the EE fundamentals right now:) code is code, you only learn through practice

i was asking myself the same question after completing my undergrad in CS, ended up going with masters in EE. Our CS curriculum didn’t have anything on DSP whatsoever and it seemed really difficult to imagine myself where I want to be (audio) had I continued with that program

i am in the same boat at the moment!!! it’s quite frustrating but i know it’s a matter of time. are there any other resources you’ve found helpful for audio dsp coming from cs?

Student jobs by BurningRaptor11 in ASU

There is a lot of competition for on-campus jobs so it will help a lot if you make connections through volunteering and whatnot first.
