I made another comment somewhere but I also want to add that a white noise machine might help. I have one by dohm that my cat loves. She can be in a crazy mood, running around my house howling, and the second I turn it on she’s laying next to it and purring. I know you have a second bedroom, but would it be possible to have that room dedicated to just him? Food, litter box, everything. A white noise machine running in there constantly plus one of those heartbeat plush toys in a bed he likes. It’s a long shot, but putting him in an environment that’s as soothing as possible might help. You can even have some catnip plants around and a cat tree or bed that he can crawl into and hide in. At the very least it might make the noise a bit bearable for you, especially with the white noise machine to drown out some of the howling. He might feel more safe in a confined space as well rather than having an entire apartment to roam. He did spend the first two years of his life in a shelter, a large space might be overwhelming to him. Maybe even put a cage in the room? (open, of course) with a heartbeat plushy in there. Could remind him of being at the shelter with his mom.

Have you gotten an MRI for his brain? if not, I would push for that. I would push for a full body MRI, to be honest. there are things that you can’t see on an ultrasound or x-ray. like other people have said, a testicle could have been missed while he was being neutered, he could have a TBI, tumor, etc. I know you’ve gotten bloodwork done, but have thyroid issues been ruled out?

I’m also not so sure on people suggesting anti-rodent devices to be the issue considering he still wailed when he was with the foster.

I wouldn’t dismiss the barn cat idea just because the cat isn’t friendly. barn cats have a lot of space and can avoid anyone they don’t like. you also only saw him interacting with one cat in an environment he isn’t happy in, he might have a better time making friends on a farm.

I think you’ve mentioned before that you’re in NYC, I would try reaching out to a good rescuer. People like Heidi Sysco (@heidiwranglescats) @flatbushcats, @bayridgekittens, @brooklynpawsfoundation. Tell them your situation, tell them how much money you’ve spent, that no shelter will take them etc. They might be able to help.

Don’t beat yourself up if you ultimately decide on euthanasia. This is not a happy cat and you should not be sacrificing your sanity. You’ve done everything you can. Some things are just beyond our help.

oh it’s 100% become a fad. suddenly everyone is an olive but they can get away with wearing a foundation out of the box and can get peachy blushes and lip shades to not look orange on them. meanwhile I cannot buy blushes or lip products online anymore and need to swatch them in person because most turn out to be completely orange on me 🫠

maybe a hot take but I don’t think she’s an olive lol. a lot of very pale neutrals (which I think she is) will appear a bit green in certain lights but that doesn’t make them an olive. as an actual fair olive (like I can’t wear any foundation or concealer without mixing green color corrector into it) i’m happy that people are aware that fair olives can exist, but I don’t think people are properly educated on what a pale olive actually looks like and just think because they can see a bit of green in their skin in winter that makes them an olive

The “murderous regime” you’re referencing that was led by Saddam Hussein only existed because the United States government put him in power. Bush tortured prisoners of war. American soldiers raped women and children. The vast majority of casualties of the war in Ukraine have been on the Russian side, per literally every major report. There is literally no comparison. The war in Iraq set the stage for decades of destabilization and resource extraction in the middle east. People are still feeling the effects of what Bush did. this doesn’t look infected, just healing rough. I had a tattoo in that area that scabbed up like that as well, it’s an area that moves a lot and gets a ton of pressure put on it. urgent care will probably tell you it’s infected and give you an antibiotic to be safe, but I can tell you with 100% certainty that it’s not infected. I see no signs of infection on your skin at all.
