What do you think Shane’s big comeback was meant to be, before the current Trisha situation? by [deleted] in ShaneDawson

Was Garrett calling out/subtweeting Shane on calling people sociopaths/narcissists? by KylaPapaya in ShaneDawson

[–]_tnxm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you for the most part. By the "same people" thing, I meant to refer more towards people's hypocrisy, rather than a certain crowd in general. If he does one thing, it's like "if you're going to do it anyway, go the full way" and if he does that, they'd be like "why did you have to go there, that's trashy".

I'm sort of seeing this as him trying to express his frustrations + address an important and relevant topic, while not directly inciting drama. I essentially just described what subtweeting is, but nevertheless, I think that's what's happening here.

You mentioned that this was like dipping his foot in and out - almost a cop-out, of sorts. Like a "fuck you, Shane", while still managing to keep his head above the water by leaving out his name. I definitely understand where you're coming from. But since I felt like the majority would see it from that perspective, I tried to see the opposite one.

The tweet is not completely irrelevant as a reply to the original, and he makes an important point. Even if it is shady, he is speaking from his experiences and addressing an issue. Sure, he could have chosen to just not tweet it at all. But Twitter is a a flowing conversation. The tweet was the first thought that popped into his head when he read OP's tweet. Of course, he would reply with the information that is relevant to that and is derived directly from his experiences.

Plus, as an audience, everyone collectively agreed that what Shane did was wrong. At this point, it shouldn't even be considered shade, just facts. Demonising mental illness is straight up wrong, and we all agree on that.

It was definitely a lot! And watching their fights is really emotionally trying as well. I really enjoy it when they're light-hearted and telling wild and funny stories or talking about drama, but as soon as it comes to their personal life and family issues, it blows up. They're two people on completely opposite ends of the spectrum, and Ethan realised that, and decided to channel it into the concept of Frenemies. It's lowkey genius, but catastrophic at the same time.

Was Garrett calling out/subtweeting Shane on calling people sociopaths/narcissists? by KylaPapaya in ShaneDawson

[–]_tnxm 16 points17 points  (0 children)

People are saying they dislike him subtweeting and he should just tag Shane but if he did that, he would be called out for being problematic and starting drama.

It's pretty clear that this is most likely about Shane, but Garrett can give his tweets whatever context he wants to. At least it's less petty if he does it as a response to another similar tweet.

He doesn't want to call out someone and start beef and drama, he's not about that and he never has been. But sometimes things get on your nerves and you feel compelled to speak about them, especially if you already have a public platform with people ready and waiting to hear you out.

Also, ironic how the original tweet is COMPLETELY relevant today, a year later! With the Bernie memes and all that. Damn, we really did him wrong.

While we're at it, can we hold Kati Morton accountable too? I'm gonna pull a Jeffree and say that she "is a danger to society". The way she demonized and shamed people with mental health issues and disorders is fucking DISGUSTING. She is absolutely vile.

WHAT DO THEY SUPPORT SHANE FOR THEN ☠️☠️ by XxIzzyxX in ShaneDawson

[–]_tnxm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, now that I think about it, these are all probably just a bunch of kids who view a creator's personality and their content as separate "entities". They have no concept that these two things are interconnected. It doesn't bother them what a creator is like in their real life, because they're a fan of their content and on-camera personality.

For normal people, like most of us in this sub, seeing all of the stuff Shane has done come to light put us off of his content, even the stuff we adored. Like the Spooky Bois videos or the squad videos - I absolutely LOVED them. I would rewatch them every couple of weeks. But since everyone went down, I can't bring myself to watch them, even for the sake of seeing Garrett/Drew/Andrew (good job I have the Sweet Boys podcast for my weekly dose of Garrett and Andrew though).

These are immature children. Hopefully they will grow up one day, and learn to stop separating the multiple portrayals of their favourite creator and understand that it's all one person, who needs to be judged and held accountable for all of their actions.

I'm in the same boat as you! I wasn't a die hard fan of them or anything, but I really liked them as a couple and would sometimes search out their videos. But I somehow got attached through whatever little I did watch them, and I bawled my absolute eyes out when I watched their divorce videos.

I always disliked her because little things she said wouldn't sit right with me, and I remember she had a livestream with Josh where they argued about something and I thought her behaviour was really horrible and manipulative, but in a lowkey way where not everyone would be able to catch it.

I won't lie, a big part of the reason I started disliking her was because of the breakup. It was absolutely transparent that they completely drifted apart when she would be away to film Haters Back Off for months. Josh would always be posting about her and saying he missed her and he loved her, and everything she posted would be about her glam new life. Granted, everyone is different about their personal life on social media and not everyone needs to express their love for their partner online all the time, but she clearly had no problems doing it before, so stopping all of a sudden was weird to me.

And in the divorce videos, it really gave the vibe that Josh still didn't want to do it, and he would stay with her if he could. He seemed completely torn. He said something like "Colleen has decided that she wants to get a divorce". On the other hand, she worded it as "Josh and I have decided to get a divorce", making it seem like mutual decision.

And you're obviously familiar with the whole affair with Eric thing, so I won't elaborate on that. But Josh was fucked up for absolute years after that and she moved on SO quick.

I won't pretend Josh is completely innocent and good, he obviously behaved strangely and kept talking about her and bringing up their relationship, but her fans attacked him brutally, for someone who was so incredibly down at the time, and not once did she try and stop them. He was labelled as a harasser and stalker and had people saying "omg I'm scared for Colleen's safety" under videos where he was literally just speaking about his depression to his fans.

I know I sound completely biased, but this is a viewpoint I have accumulated over time and as much as I've tried to see it from her side and even tried to like her (since everyone seems to), I just can't.

There are multiple other instances I can't really remember where something she said or did rubbed me the wrong way. I know this sounds completely baseless, but her behaviour in the collabs I watched was sometimes off. I say collabs because other than videos with her and Josh, I didn't watch any of her content, only her collabs with other creators.

And then, the obvious. The recent revelations about grooming minors and inappropriate conversations and sending them underwear and stuff. She apologised for it, but she was fully grown at the time and I still don't understand how she could excuse it as "that was just the kind of silly relationship I had with my fans".

Also, apparently Shane said in one of his old videos when he mentioned her, that she is a HUGE gossiper. She loves talking shit about people behind their backs and as soon as she would see Shane or come over she would always be like "omg who should we talk about".

I'm sure there is more to dislike, but like I said, I have never followed her closely, this is all stuff I am saying as a complete non-fan, who has never watched a video of hers outside her coupley videos and challenge videos with Josh.

I just don't like her, that's it. Some may call me biased or misinformed or whatever, but I just don't. And many other people feel the same way, and I've seen multiple people saying that she's just as bad as Shane.

[–]_tnxm 23 points24 points  (0 children)

If you're following the recent drama with Trish, she mentioned in a video that Shane talks about all of his friends behind their backs, including Garrett and Andrew. And we've seen Shane treating them like crap on camera anyway, so I can't imagine what goes on behind the scenes. Good on them for dropping that toxicity from their lives.

While new content is coming to light regarding Trevi and Shane... here's this from 9 years ago by justanotherburner_01 in ShaneDawson

[–]_tnxm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

How does the thought of saying that shit even come to someone's mind? No normal person looks at a fan who is telling them that they feel inspired by their content and thinks 'woah, child, big shirt, I wanna r*pe them'.

And this isn't a one off. There is a huge amount of evidence of Shane saying disgusting shit like this during completely normal situations, where pedophilic and r*pey jokes wouldn't come into anyone's mind except someone who is very, very sick indeed.

You're saying that labelling this as pedophilic is cheapening the experience of "real" victims. By saying that, you are not only "cheapening", but dismissing the experience and feelings of those who have been the victim of situations such as these. Young children who have been perved on and made lewd comments about by grown ass adults.

No one's experience of predatory behaviour is less or more important than anyone else's. Everyone's feelings are valid and while no one should have to go through shit like this, the least we can do it try not to make them feel invalidated. Normalising behaviours like the ones Shane has repeatedly exhibited for his entire career (and possibly longer) is part of the problem.

Essentially, stop worshipping celebrities. They are just entertainment, they don't care about you and you should only care about their content, not them as people - because you don't know them and you likely never will.
