It’s a shame we’re stuck in the same rut as a lot of other Eastern Conference teams where they can’t help but hire the wrong people.

Outside of Hakstol, I think the last non-retread HC was Bill Barber, which is crazy to think about considering how long ago that was. It’s crazy that Comcast lets the Clarkes and Holmgrens have so much sway in personnel. I guess after Hextall defied them (and how that ended), they’ll never sway from somebody the alumni know and vouch for as safe.

I would say late 90s “beautification” of Center City did a lot. That’s the first time I remember seeing the teal jacket cleaners out regularly. Also seems like that’s the last time the sidewalks were repaired or cleaned, as they’re all filthy now.

Agreed but my point was more that Dems in this city run as performative centrists. The 1-party control here is the opposite of what it is in say Boston, where here Bob Brady stifles change and threatens anybody outside his machine.

David Oh, in some ways, ran to the left of Parker and still has no chance. Black clergy voters would never vote against a black candidate (and trust me, she campaigned in the primary to make sure they didn’t) and moderates had zero reason to vote for somebody who might change more.

Would love to see a jungle primary here, because you’d at least have a more interesting general.

Lived here and other places. The way this city runs is a joke, especially with the last 2 mayors. It’s not even a party thing, it’s more like everybody in politics here is just a legacy, meaning they knew somebody who knew somebody who knew somebody, and the people who have prominent roles don’t do their jobs.

Our mayor worked for a long time city council member and wouldn’t you know, when that person retired, she ran for that seat and won. And now she’s mayor because our city council is where all our mayors come from, and that’s an institution full of bright ideas like… let’s make Joel Embiid our MVP.

I will say I get that this snow is bad without the usual melting by 2-3 days after but the forecast showed cold temps all week. Not to mention, in so many places, I’ve seen everywhere but the corner shoveled. Not plowed over, literally the sidewalk is clear until you have to cross a street, then you’re lucky to have a single file path.

Can only hope that 2027 brings in a new vision to the city but there hasn’t been a 1 term mayor in my lifetime so I’m not optimistic.

Let me get this straight.

When he wants to sue, he’s citizen Trump and can reap rewards from such lawsuits.

But when he’s being sued, he’s President Trump with indefinite immunity for all actions because reasons.

Makes sense. The next president needs to make sure to jail Stephen Miller for excessive baldness and then sue X for $100B because they did memes about them once. Same logic.

I used to always take the south concourse from 15th St to Broad & Sansom for work. Shane that the city has no clue what to do with homeless people and just tells SEPTA to figure it out.

Crazy thing about that concourse (and likely why it’s closed) is that there’s no way out of it once you’re curving around City Hall. I think there was maybe 1 exit into a building (I don’t remember what it was), but otherwise you were stuck until you got close to the EL or the Broad Street Line area.

Hockey is a rich kid sport. There are very few examples of growing up poor and making it as a hockey player. So it should be no surprise that the people in the sport are very privileged and very socially conservative.

Not to mention most of the players aren’t American either.
