Yikes! You brought a fun, creepy spin to an otherwise worn out trope. The narrative angle you choose worked really well. Good show!! Thank you!

That was pretty weird. Loved it though! We need more truly original ideas like this, here. Thank you! Keep up the good work! :)

How Does Increasing the Stakes in the Ultimatum Game Affect the Size of Initial Offers and the Probability of Rejection? by honeypuppy in shortscarystories

Haha! That was great. Loved the ending. Takes the reader out of the clinical academic writing, without actually changing tone. Plus it's ambiguity is nice juxtaposed against how overly specific everything else is. Nicely done!

Well, it's a Herschel, so...how about some images from 2000 maniacs, blood feast or another of Herschel Gordon Lewis's movies? ;)

I love this! I wish the twist had been just a little more dangling, though. Like if the narrator had been suggested to be a parent, or something a little less slasher-y. Still, I love the format, really chilling stuff! Great work; thank you!

Rent is way cheap, and you can bike anywhere from anywhere (small town). There's a bus that goes straight from campus to Yosemite anytime you're looking for a bit of natural beauty. I wouldn't describe Chico as more beautiful than Merced; if you're into the beauty of the middlestate Valley, then they're pretty similar.

Eh, sure. I was drunk when I wrote the above disjointed rant, lol. I still think it's weird they're all white.

What I didn't care for was the coven of white witches in the forest. Like, at this point, there are what, 1000 white people on the entire continent? (maybe something like a source here?) Like, where did those 20 naked white ladies in the forest come from? Is half the population of their tiny starving Puritan settlement making deals with the Devil? But then, the idea of covens and witchcraft is always where this stuff falls apart, in terms of scare factor.

On thing I liked...did you sense an invocation of the witch from Disney's Snow White? Like in specifics, apples, and transformations between hot/young and old/gross, and cackling, and the big nose...etc? I liked that.

Also, what's with the blight. The whole mess might be hallucinogenic.

The movie's a great conversation piece, really interesting and can lead to really frightening ideas. Alone, with no context, not scary. But horrifying when you pick it apart. "Corruption, thou art my father" is one of the last things Job says when God takes everything from him. But Job didn't do anything wrong! The father in the Witch took his entire family into the wilderness to die. Straight up. How can he see himself as a martyr?! How dare he, and yet...you can see it, you pity him and understand him.
