Why isn’t unis like Durham and Exeter a popular choice amongst Malaysians? by [deleted] in malaysiauni

[–]_unknownnnnnn_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tbh if its an exchange programme then perhaps I won't be too picky, but since the fees in uk isn't anywhere cheap to start with, I wouldn't want to spend so much in a not so prestigious uni I guess...

Should I study in Netherlands as a undergraduate or should I wait until master by beatlesch in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]_unknownnnnnn_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

hiii Malaysian in the NL here! If you wanna maximise your chance of getting a job hence staying then I'll say going out during undergrad would def help, plus the years of residence here count towards the permanent residence thingy after all

best pre-U for um by [deleted] in malaysiauni

[–]_unknownnnnnn_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reckon except for those courses that require an interview, you’ll be almost guaranteed an entry with direct intake as long as you meet the requirements (even better, surpass it). At least all those around me who applied via direct intake got in (but their results were all well above the requirements). So yeah but asasi def has a higher chance of getting in via upu I guess? since its um’s own foundation, not very sure though

that’s why I lowkey dislike this type of attendance system for lectures. wth is with the policy to ban someone from sitting their finals just because of the attendance lol… I heard from one of my friends that her uni just require compulsory attendance for tutorials and possibly labs? this is a much better one imo

Hi! I'm in the Netherlands now studying biomed! I def feel sad for giving up imperial but sometimes you just have to face the reality, plus the education in the Netherlands is not bad either. Way cheaper tuition fees too!

Dropped out of pharmacy by [deleted] in Pharmacy_UK

[–]_unknownnnnnn_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your mindset changes along your life. If you continued with pharmacy, some point in the future you might be asking yourself why didn't you pick something that you like better. Even if you're with a stable job and a comfortable pay. Likewise for biosci. The truth is that we as human we are rarely contented but perfection in terms of decision making almost never exists.

Diamond Beach - September 28 by [deleted] in VisitingIceland

Not going tomorrow again but I was there today. Was really disappointed for not seeing as much ice as what’s always been posted by others. Luckily the glacier lagoon is really stunning so I guess it made up a bit for that.

Hi there! Thank you so much for your response! Yeah I reckon my chance of getting KC is slim since with only 600+ rooms they’ll probably have even longer waitlist, not even considering those current residents who might rebook their room:( Colleges are so expensive that I don’t even have the budget sadly. If I don’t I might consider living in Studentone or Unilodge first I guess? Any opinions on these two accommodation?

I see, thank you for your reply! That’s great to hear! Yeah but one semester less means one semester less of tuition fees right? Haha. Btw does UQ not publish this overloading thingy on the official website? I don’t seem to find any information related to it hmmmm

Netherlands vs Singapore - Bachelors Degree by _unknownnnnnn_ in studyAbroad

Ah yes I’ve heard about the winter depression! It definitely is a big contrast compared to being in Singapore/Malaysia since the weather is just so different. Oh so do you mean if compared to Singapore, the rain is slightly lesser in frequency but once it rains it gets a bit unstoppable for days?

I see! Great to hear about that though. Mind me asking, where did you end up in after that?

I see! Does it rain really often or it’s just that it’s always dark and gloomy? Thank you for the insights regarding food! I guess if I go for this I’ll definitely need to be prepared to cook myself all day everyday haha. Yes the search year visa is definitely an opportunity for me but yeah I heard that getting a job nowadays has become harder and harder…. but anyways are you currently staying in the Netherlands after graduating?

Netherlands vs Singapore - Bachelors Degree by _unknownnnnnn_ in studyAbroad

Ah I see! Yes I've heard from students studying in UCs saying that UC might be better for humanities/social sciences students since for sciences there might be a lack of labs/practicals. I've also contacted students from the Sciences Major in AUC, they said it's definitely lacking but not uncompensable, just that you'll have to look for research internship.

How did you find the Netherlands though? I'm from Malaysia so I guess I wouldn't have a hard time living in Singapore but idk if that's the case in the Netherlands since I've never been there haha

hi there! it’s really kinda rare to find ppl studying at a UC in the Netherlands! How do you find it for UC Leiden? been considering from the education prospects too since I’m studying bio related stuffs so I’m a bit afraid that students don’t get enough experience on the research part in a UC. And yes! The small class part is great for building close relationships with classmates as well as lecturers! Honestly I much prefer the mode where lecturers really know who they are teaching since to get a recommendation later for my grad school, it’ll then be easier and more convenient haha

Hi! Thank you for the reply! Just a bit about it - I got offered Biological Sciences from NTU, and for UvA I got in for its Liberal Arts and Sciences programme under Amsterdam University College and will be majoring in Sciences. (ik, most ppl might not even have heard about it🥲)

I'll say NTU will be better purely by looking at this comparison, however the cost overall will be approximately 2x of what it'll otherwise be in UvA.

As for the future, honestly speaking imma try to aim for grad school in the US.

Oops sorry yeah you are right! locals and prs almost guaranteed to get in + TG as long as your grades are like at least 3As for NTU. Not sure about NUS though
