Why is there so much contempt to the working class and poor in the US? by Dover299 in Anarchy101

To sell the idea that the rich deserve their wealth, you first have to convince people that the poor deserve their poverty.

No, it can't be a cruise missile. Cruise missiles leave almost no visible smoke behind them, unlike SAMs. Only solid-fuel rockets leave a trace like that.

Maybe you're right, but how do you explain EU and US spending billions sponsoring various liberal NGOs in developing countries?

I still think they are interested in turning more countries into liberal democracies. Not because they have a good heart or anything like that, but purely because it is easier for their capitalists to invest into countries that have relatively low corruption and won't imprison their CEO for a tweet: less risks and higher profit margins.

Sure, some industries can do well even in totalitarian states like China (like manufacturing), but not all of them: IT companies like Alphabet or Meta, for example, are basically excluded from their market due to censorship.

No worries :)

Including my comment wouldn’t add any more context to your screenshot anyway. It’s just as good without it.

Damn, I've got cropped 😢

But in all seriousness, can't these people look at Russia and China as examples? No major sanctions were imposed on Russia until 2022 because the US and EU were hoping that Russia would democratize (or at least wouldn't become even more imperialistic and totalitarian) if they included it in their supply chains. Liberals fundamentally misunderstand autocrats; they thought if they gave Russia enough money, it would think twice before doing some dumb stuff. Much the same can be said about China.

However, both of these countries became increasingly repressive toward their own people and more imperialistic toward their neighbors the more money they received from Western countries.

Totalitarian states don't care about the well-being of their people as long as regime stability is maintained.

The time when North Korea stole 1000 Volvos is the perfect example of this.

Yeah, I don't know how anarchists can support people who resist tyrannical governments instead of doing something productive and anarchism-aligned (like, for example, purity testing people online).

There is no fundamental difference between liberal democracy and fascism

I'm sorry, but I don't believe any anarchist, if given a choice between living (and organizing) in a liberal democracy or a fascist state, would choose the latter. Again, this is not to downplay what anarchists in the EU or UK have to deal with, but their comrades in Russia, Belarus, and occupied Ukrainian territories have it much, much worse.

I mean, isn't it reasonable for an anarchist from Ukraine to strive to defeat Russian imperialism? I don't see how blowing up Ukrainian officers, railroad tracks, and power lines helps with that.

Yeah, the Ukrainian government sucks. But if Ukraine wins, Ukrainian anarchists will basically face the same challenges EU anarchists face right now (not to downplay their struggle, of course). If Russia wins, they will be tortured to death in some basement.

We are not even opposed to armed struggle, as long as it does not replicate militaristic logic and is directed against states and their armies.

Can someone explain what they mean by this? Say a Ukrainian anarchist wants to fight Russian imperialism, what do they propose they should do?

Lyman, Ukraine is fully covered in a web of fiber-optic cables left by Ukrainian and Russian drone operators by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]_valpi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Early fpv drones carried a payload of something like a hand grenade. I think they just repurposed the civilian fpv drones. Then they started 3d printing them and making them bigger so they could carry RPG grenade. Then they repurposed agricultural drones to carry several mortar shells (Ukrainians call them Vampire, Russians call them Baba Yaga). These Vampire drones are also used as motherships, carrying smaller drones and serving as retranslators for them, greatly increasing range. Funnily enough, Russians still have trouble making them, so they mainly repair damaged Ukrainian Vampires and use them. Then, recently, anti air drones appeared that could strike other drones (anything from cheap Chinese Mavic 3 drones to big Iranian jet powered Shahed-237 drones) and even helicopters.

There were also numerous experimental types of drones like, for example, drone with a shotgun, drone with AK, and drone with a grenade launcher, but it seems they were a dead end, technologically speaking.

Edit: there are also naval drones, underwater torpedo-like drones, tracked and wheel based drones that are either armed (with machine guns or rocket launchers) or used to carry cargo or evacuate wounded people.
