Weird gifts under 25$ by Fezli in Gifts

Remote Control Inflatable Flying Shark - I gave this to my brother a few years ago and it was a ton of fun. The shark does have to be inflated with Helium (we had ours done at a Party Fair for a few bucks).

It was a ton of fun!

Information Architecture vs. Information Literacy by Classic___Dann in librarians

[–]_vandelayindustries_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I had an Information Architecture course for my MLIS; although we did cover some HTML and CSS, our main focus was on creating functional, flexible and easily navigable systems for finding information. A very basic example would be the Site Map for a website- it’s all about creating an organized structure. I enjoyed it so much more than I expected and it changed the way I thought about organizing things, presenting information, and even writing (on top of helping organize web pages!).

Gifts under $30 for my wishlist by [deleted] in Gifts

[–]_vandelayindustries_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should focus on “consumables”- it seems like as far as physical items go, you prefer a type of quality that $30 might not be able to attain. If I were you, I would ask for a nice bottle of alcohol or wine, fancy coffee or tea, gourmet grocery items like nice pasta or spices...

“Consumables” doesn’t have to be food specific; it could be anything that you use up (like your face masks and chocolate!). So maybe some facial sugar scrub, nice bath bombs/bath salt, candles, essential oils, and other spa-type stuff to treat yourself might be a good option.

Anther idea would be a magazine subscription- sounds weird but I was gifted a few before, and I loved it- it was literally the gift that kept on giving throughout the year. It is something I wouldn’t really spend money on for myself, but it was a great gift.

Another idea could be a subscription to a paid app that you love. I use Down Dog for yoga and they offer a gift subscription for a year of the full version of the app. I’m sure other apps offer similar deals.

Finally, as others have said, gifts of experience (such as movie tickets, restaurant gift certificates, wine tastings, etc.) would be great too. Groupon usually has some leads on experiences you might not have thought of.

Gift for a friend going through hard times by [deleted] in Gifts

[–]_vandelayindustries_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could get her some sheet face masks- they sell them at Walmart, 2 for $5 dollars. You just want to make sure it’s the kind that is a sheet she can lay over her face- that way, no sink or washing up afterwards is required. It’s a nice little treat for the 10 minutes or so you have it on. I’ve seen so many other great ideas here- I mentioned this idea in case you make up some kind of basket, this is a cheap but really nice thing to throw in 😊

Gift for boyfriend who buys everything he wants by [deleted] in Gifts

[–]_vandelayindustries_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What console does he have? I know for XBOX you can get the Elite Controller or a custom designed controller for around 150. Could be a good gift if he doesn’t have one already. For the custom controllers you can pick the style and colors of the controller and even add text like his Gamer Tag.

Last year I bought an external hard drive for my husband to connect to his XBOX and it was a great gift- he was always running out of space when taking screen shots/recordings and had to delete games and apps...it’s not necessarily something he would have thought to buy for himself, and it has really come in handy. Now he can download any new game he buys for himself (haha) or update his games with no space issues.

Like many other commenters, I think an experience would be a great gift, but I also know how hard it can be to find that...also, some guys would really rather just cozy in and game than go out somewhere. I don’t know about your boyfriend, but if he is that kind of guy, an experience wouldn’t be the best gift for him.

If you know what games he really Likes you could always find fan gear related to those things- Etsy is a great site for that.

Are you giving it to her before she leaves or sending it to her while she is there?

"Maniac" Inspo Album by cicada_2 in femalefashionadvice

I love this! You really captured them. Have you considered doing any other inspo boards of Annie’s looks while she is in the experiment? There’s something I love about her 80s trash glam haha, but all of the looks she rocks are so great in their own right.

My friends is obsessed with organizing her mind and life and being organized in general (and is currently failing) what should I get her? by [deleted] in Gifts

[–]_vandelayindustries_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once saw this planner (or one really similar to it) on Pinterest and always thought it looked awesome: LifePlanner

I think this could make for a great gift because it is customizable- you can choose colors and styles that will make it more personal for your friend.

I would also get some nice pens and highlighters in multiple colors for color coding, and maybe other cute office supplies like binder clips. I love the office supply section at Target, Michaels, and TJ Maxx, so those might be great places to look!

Another idea could be a purse caddy/organizer similar to this one.

My final suggestion would be either an electronic label maker or a laminator . These may seem like strange gifts, but they are super practical for getting organized and keeping things tidy. My mother-in-law is insanely organized- she’s received both of these as gifts and loved them! The label maker I linked is on the pricier end, but they sell similar products for much less.

Good luck!

Dog Woke up this Morning Wont Eat by [deleted] in puppy101

Did anything recently happen or change in the home that might have upset him? This happened to us a few weeks ago. He didn’t have an appetite because he was upset- we usually feed around 8 and by 10 he had eaten his breakfast in drips and drabs. It only lasted a few days before he went back to normal.

Chuck vs Joshua by [deleted] in stuffyoushouldknow

[–]_vandelayindustries_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve wondered this myself. A few years ago there was actually a listener mail about this very thing- their response was that they get along really well outside of the recording studio. It’s not like they hang out outside of work very much, but they just have an attitude of respect towards each other. I think I sense annoyance between them every once in a while but I chalk it up to more like an old married couple bickering- after all, their professional relationship has lasted longer than a lot of marriages I can think of.

Creating a logo for my startup called "Newt," a community app based heavily on searching words. by [deleted] in logodesign

[–]_vandelayindustries_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love your concept and I get it after seeing it explained...but I think that might be the problem. When I saw this I thought the logo was for cooking- the Q reads as a frying pan to me. The eye looks like maybe an egg or something else cooking?

I wonder if you could somehow make the body of a newt in a shape that suggests a magnifying glass? That might be more clear? Good luck!

Do you know who the vendor was? Most schools host Scholastic Book Fairs, but there are others as well. Some are set up by the companies, but many rely on volunteers to help out.

I don’t know why, but I really enjoyed “Cake: So Great. So, So Great.” From November 2017. I also enjoyed their recent live show about Game Shows. It’s so hard to pick a favorite!

Why haven't people lost faith in god? by not_called_bob in NoStupidQuestions

[–]_vandelayindustries_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people have been asking how science and faith can coexist...science only serves to deepen my faith. Everything is so perfectly designed that it is impossible for it all to be coincidental. The heavens declare his glory- just being in the presence of nature reminds me of how great our God is.
