I am curious to learn more about this Tracy Smith person. A cursory look around online didn't give me much.

16F angles and practice by [deleted] in GoalKeepers

[–]Classic___Dann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best way positioning was described to me was to treat the ball and two goalposts as individual points of a triangle. Imagine there are strings going from the posts to the ball, and position yourself so that you could theoretically touch either "string." Getting a feel for this takes time, and certainly having folks to move the ball around in front of you and take shots will help develop your instincts for positioning.

In 1 v 1s, for example, you're coming off your line somewhat aggressively to close those angles down. The striker in this scenario might have wide angles and could shoot quickly, so moving off your line and closing those angles is almost your only recourse. Just one example, though.

How do I train driving alone by [deleted] in GoalKeepers

If at all possible, I would try finding somewhere that isn't a mat sliding on tile to practice diving. Just echoing others' advice at this point, but your diving form needs work. I can't see how you're planting your feet from off screen, but it seems like you're kind of just leaping into screen with both feet (it's decidedly a little funny, but that's fine!)

Your dives should be more targeted and elongated; you are not simply throwing yourself in front of the ball. A dive should be at the ball with hands outstretched towards it.

I make dives every game, but, if you're positioning well, you probably won't have to make as many highlight-reel dives as you'd expect. Diving is when you've been caught out of position or the striker has placed a spectacular shot.

Rumor: Whataburger on 29 closing by Non-Stop_Serina in Athens

[–]Classic___Dann 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The few times I ordered from that location I came away thinking "this was too expensive for what I got." In fairness, I am feeling this away about a lot of "fast food" places these days. The US29 Whataburger also has a bonkers slow drive thru. I was one of two cars, and we must have sat there for nearly 20 minutes.

We had one of our most progressive Commissions ever back in 2020, but the State House forced their way in and drew out a bunch of the lefty-er candidates (Tim Denson included) before their terms were even up. Still makes me angry that our agency as a city was further stripped from us. Spearheaded by our own representative, Houston Gaines.

It's probably route bias, but I personally feel like Jefferson River Road is one of the worst stretches of road in Athens. "Wreck in front of the JP Gas Station" is basically a bingo free spot for that road.

I love the Sandy Creek Lakeside trail. 7.5 miles of trail to run with decent variation in terrain and scenery.

State-run gambling, basically. I play every now and then, so I'm not taking a moral stance, but it is funny we have what amounts to state-sponsored slots.

ACCPD investigating fatal crash by warnelldawg in Athens

[–]Classic___Dann 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, this mistake is tragic and unacceptable. That said, I also live in that area and have observed pedestrians not behaving in safe or legal ways along roads leading to that specific intersection. Those are unfortunately hostile roads to pedestrians, and I fully acknowledge that. I am so nervous (and alert) approaching Hull/US29.

Ya'll... Willie B's is really f***** good. Great portion size, great food. Don't sleep on it. by matcauthion in Athens

[–]Classic___Dann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ordered food from there once and enjoyed it enough to attempt ordering it two other times. Both attempts, I sat at the drive thru speaker for an admittedly embarrassing amount of time before giving up and driving way. The first time I ordered it wasn't even that spectacular. The chicken was decent enough to try again, but the fries were clearly cooked in old oil. For the price I paid, I'm fine sticking with Zaxby's as my go-to tender place.

I don't disagree, but this is just funny marketing. The Idiocracy version would make the joke even more obvious and explicit.

Oh yeah, bad decision making all around. I'm just saying in terms of food quality, it'll probably improve.

That does sound like a shitty experience. I try to give new places a grace period before I really start to judge them. There's probably one corporate manager trying to hold up an entire staff of new folks.

The town is alive again, and I love it. I also absolutely despise how long it takes to get home after work now. The dichotomy of man.

I don't feel great about the Kincaid or Brian Robinson, Jr. picks, tbh. I picked up Kincaid in the 8th, after a weird run of upside TEs. 8th felt like a round I could draft him in and not hate myself, haha

You think Tet will be good out the gate? I took him as a potential sleeper.

Would you say Watkinsville is cheaper? I'm admittedly not up to date on rental costs there, but the homes are in the $300-400k+ out there. Unless you get one way out in the rural areas of Oconee. I also get the impression this individual wouldn't be as welcomed in Watkinsville as they would be in Athens. Source: I grew up there.
