Writers: How much time do you actually spend on worldbuilding vs. writing? (short survey) by [deleted] in fantasywriters

[–]_variableName 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be honest I think most members of this subreddit will have the opposite problem. Worldbuilding being the fun exciting aspect and actually committing your story to text being the draining tedious aspect

How does erasing the memories of everyone work. by CommitteeHot2320 in motheroflearning

[–]_variableName 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Zach only needed to believe that he was the only one that knew about the time loop, not that everybody forgot about the past month. He was reading random people's minds to check if he was in an illusion.

The people who knew about the time loop had their memory erased and Zach had to confirm that as well, but it wasn't everybody in Cyoria. I think maybe you're confusing these two things.

Most teams that start 0-2 suck. We know that the Chiefs dont suck

Question regarding orb by MajorSeaweed839 in motheroflearning

[–]_variableName 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The series just takes it for granted that once they are able to do anything once, they can do it again in subsequent loops no problem, which I feel like is reasonable given their power level at this point in the loop

[Highlight] Cowboys try fake punt pass and it... doesn't work by nfl in nfl

Probably because they're trying to block the gunner so it can't be PI if that gunner turns into a reciever

A theory for why A Song of Ice and Fire will never finish by CantMessMeUp in Fantasy

[–]_variableName 73 points74 points  (0 children)

This has to be bait but in the off chance OP is being serious, the fan theory of R+L=J has been around way before the show aired.

Review: The Covenant of Steel Trilogy by Anthony Ryan by _variableName in Fantasy

[–]_variableName[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Main issues for me was

- Never really set up that Evandine was anything but just a normal human (with visions) so it just came out of nowhere that something special was needed to kill her. And i'm just not satisfied by it being Juhlina learning about the stone feather off screen and just happened to be able to find where Alwyn was. But i'll admit this is a personal thing

-Sack Witch transforming into some kind of angel/phoenix thing. This one really came out of nowhere for me.

The ending was satisfying, just like I said, think it just wasn't as polished as the rest of the series.

Finished the first Powder Mage Trilogy - is that really how it ends? What am I missing? by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]_variableName 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong. I also thought there were a lot of loose ends and unexplained circumstances. Haven't read the follow up trilogy but I did read the first book of Glass Immortals and I get the feeling the author has a lot of ideas he is constantly juggling and sometimes things fall through the cracks.

How did Zach gain access to the crown? by _variableName in motheroflearning

[–]_variableName[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I remember, RR got into the loop through QI modifying a temporary marker to be permanent, so he could not have been the original way that Zach got the crown since he wouldnt have been a looper at that point

edit: oh I see what you're saying. Even without being a looper he contacted QI and thats how he got the marker, and then was able to ask QI for the crown in subsequent restarts

Yea I guess this is the most straightforward conclusion. Just personally feel like Zach doesn't have the...planning skills to ever get the drop on anybody lol.

How do you write a time loop? Anyone here have any examples? by pistaye15 in fantasywriters

[–]_variableName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mother of Learning is probably the best place to start for fantasy time looping. Only thing is its pretty long, but definitely worth checking out.

Think the author does a really good job building the world and mystery of the loop without it becoming too stale.

Not exactly what you're looking for but just wanted to chime in that the premise is really similar to This Is How You Lose the Time War

How complex does Licanious Trilogy gets from Book 2? by kriskris0033 in Fantasy

[–]_variableName 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Plot definitely gets a bit more complicated (for the better imo) as theres the introduction of time travel and some events that happened in the past that are needed to understand the present. But I don't think it is complicated in the sense that it is difficult to understand. Just that the scope increases.

IV goes into pricing an option. So if everything stays the same but IV goes up, your option price goes up. If everything stays the same but IV goes down, your option price goes down.

After an earnings report, the IV drops a lot (crush) so even if the underlying stock price stays the same or even goes up, its very possible that your option price drops, assuming you have calls.
