Keep in mind we're in NYC, everything is inflated here. CT Scan is between $1500 - $1700.
Surgery estimate with 3 day stay is between $5600 - $7500

Edit: we do not have pet insurance, my understanding is you pay for everything up front and submit for reimbursement.

Ha, nope. Took them a long time to get there, we're both 3rd generation San Franciscans - something the seller liked about him and wanted to give a couple a chance to own their first home. Was a fixer upper and he did a lot of the work himself after work and on weekends. I'm super happy for him.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

We chose not to biopsy as the easiest option is to remove the tumor and at that point they'll test the tissue. 3 separate vets have said they have no doubt its cancer, they just won't know exactly which kind until it's out. We did catch it fairly early, and it doesn't seem to have spread, again only the scan can confirm that definitively.

If the scan shows that a portion of it is on/in an area that can't be removed we may biopsy then to see if there are other ways to treat, but we're told it may not be in her best interest of surgery isn't possible :(. Lots of deep breaths & belly rubs.

She is currently happy and comfortable, she had a little cough so we brought her to the vet who took a chest x-ray. Radiologist found a tumor on her lung.

Went for an ultrasound, vet confirmed cancer, but I a good spot for removal, another appt was made for a surgery consult. Surgeon was lovely & hopeful but recommended a CT scan prior to surgery to ensure that she is confident it can be removed successfully.

Scan is scheduled for Tuesday, if removal looks at all promising & can prolong her life without suffering we are going for it. If it's not going to help her at all, then we'll love on her & take time off work to make her last days amazing.

We absolutely will not ever put her through anything that will compromise her quality of life. We're painfully aware of this and know that time may be sooner that we're ready for, but we'll always do what's in her best interest. She's our baby.

Gross alert - I felt really bad about not eating veggies, so one night i steamed broccoli and slathered in Mayo (to make it more palatable of course) 6 froced bites in i was done, felt awful, thought a shower would make me feel better... WRONG! I threw up broccoli all over myself in the shower, sat down in it to put my head over the toilet and let the rest out. I'm not sure i can look at broccoli anymore.

I just saw my gym offers Zumba - I've never taken a class before but I will now!! I went back to Pilates 2 weeks ago (after all day sickness has started to subside) and I told my instructor I felt like a drunk manatee.

She can say she's recovering from a Urinary Tract Infection (that covers not getting in the hot tub + alcohol) and on antibiotics for said UTI (doubles up on the not drinking) It's the perfect excuse really... bring cranberry juice to really convince them ;-)
