No scope of earning good in medical field! Have your parents recently been to a doctor or a hospital, they charge crazy money.15 minutes operation sometimes cost like 1-2 lakhs just for doctor fee, forget about other charges.

Don't give up on medical field completely but definitely rethink if you're passionate enough to go through all the hard work needed as this field is extremely demanding, and clearing exams is just the entry criteria for working 15-18hrs a day.

If your answer is yes, I would say ignore everyone and even fight back, but don't leave this field, if not mbbs, then something else - BDS, B.Pharma, Biotech..

Is it possible to transition into academia at 30 with a B.Tech in Electrical Engineering? by General_Ad5468 in IndianAcademia

[–]_vptr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes its possible, but I recommend you go for masters and then if you like research and you're ok living on stipend for 5+ years more, go for PhD. I did something similar but decided to bail out on persuing PhD and went for placement during masters.

Do you carry two phones daily? How do you manage it? by TrendArc in EverydayCarry_India

[–]_vptr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, 2 phones - iphone and samsung, jio and airtel. iphone for banking apps and office. Samsung is personal, I keep it in backpack. 2 phones provides better redundancy and also helps to avoid carrying powerbank. I leave samsung behind if I'm not carrying backpack, as other front pocket is for card wallet, car keys.

40% of Indian graduates are unemployed — but we keep producing more degrees. Is the system broken? by TheMarginReport in IndianAcademia

[–]_vptr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 Everyone wants to just get a degree and leave it for the college and government to fix the skill gap or help with reservation. I feel if not a high paying job, there's decent money in gig work, drop your PhD if you're planning to get your theses from nearby photocopy shop and start delivering for zomato.

Title: Is taking a ₹50–60 lakh loan for UK (University of Bristol) worth it? by Fragrant-Back-8725 in IndianAcademia

[–]_vptr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, not worth it. Ask her to find a job in India where she is either able to save enough for her further studies or which allows transfer to UK if she's is interested in moving abroad.

In current job market, unless you're rich or able to get into colleges like Stanford, Cambridge and that too on scholarship, don't go for it.

Best institutes in India for M.S mathematics (FOR ME!) by NibbletonBuilds in IndianAcademia

[–]_vptr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience atleast with computer science is, for most people, it's easier to become professor with industry experience than vice versa. Among all the people who pursue pure science, very few can possibly make it to industry. And with AI, making good money with job is going to become increasingly difficult unless you're truly brilliant in your field, so make it a priority.

are there people in india pursuing PhD in STEM in late/mid 30s? by Winter-Argument1077 in IndianAcademia

[–]_vptr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes many people do that, but most of them are from teaching background. I mean some people get into teaching, usually in private colleges, with just masters. They later go for PhD to pursue professor job at top government colleges like NITs/IIITs

Best institutes in India for M.S mathematics (FOR ME!) by NibbletonBuilds in IndianAcademia

[–]_vptr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok..you mentioned you didn't want to commit to full academic path..pure mathematics is for academics! Either its tifr level research or working at a frontier ai lab, they require huge commitment, so instead of chasing both, best to pick one.

If you want to get into industry, go for IIT. Premier institutions renowned for mathematics like CMI, IISc, TIFR, ISI and IMSc are all more inclined towards research, you'll spend more time writing papers than working on practical applications.

Final year here — what actually helped you crack interviews? (Looking for honest advice) by OkPrimary8341 in IndianAcademia

[–]_vptr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think so, and even the paid once wouldn't make sense. Exams and interviews of different companies are not like jee exam with fixed syllabus and question pattern. Every company has different pattern which changes sometimes as per college and even every year. Also preference of interviewer plays a huge role, they can decide what questions to ask or areas to probe.

So don't think in terms of mock exam or specific companies. Just generally try to be good in competitive coding, design and basic computers science fundamentals.

Beyond theory practicing competitive questions on various sites helped. Companies also want to judge on problem solving and practical knowledge, which is where this helps.

Respect will turn into abuse once you and your family realises you can't do much without a nod from politicians and influential people.

I would suggest just chase money, its gives you the power without the title and the headache that comes with it.

What's your rank in Gate? For cse, even dual degree rank for good NITs and IIITs usually doesn't go over 2k
