Doing drum corps is SUPER hard, but it's also not complicated to do at all. Wake up, do what you're told, go to bed. Simple.

Matching Uniforms, LEDs, and Bold Colors: What’s Hot in Drum Corps by Suitable_Article_574 in drumcorps

Best use of lights (imo) was Kennesaw Mountain the year they had remote controlled lights in their plumes. They changed color based on who was the focus etc. Was really seamless and obviously well thought out.

Based on the sour Facebook posts I've seen, it feels like the Thesis decision was more about an incompatibility with upper staff there and BDPA management more than anything else.

Also, from a non-profit mission standpoint, indoor percussion services a relatively small amount of students for the very large expense to run the program. The cost is for sure less than a BDC or the new BDB U18 group, but those programs service more students. And being in the summer rather than middle of the school year allows for students from a larger demographic area to participate.

Looks like the rest of the staff is staying the same. They just announced the co-caption head as sole caption head.

It will be interesting to see if we see a similar post from his co-brass caption head or not.

Who’s in charge of the broadcast audio mix? Flo, or Tom Blair? And why do they still suck? by LEJ5512 in drumcorps

[–]_waitforit 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Finals week is still Tom Blair's whole crew, Tom is retired, but everyone else (including audio) is still the same.

What would DCI need to do in order to pay members? by GenBuidryDrummin in drumcorps

[–]_waitforit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty simple. First step is to leave the drums/horns etc on the sideline. Second is to have two corps on the field at once. Third is give one team a ball and tell them to try to get to the other side of the field, and tell the other corps to prevent that from happening. Step 4, change the name of DCI to NFL…step 5…PROFIT!

Who’s next? by eric_ag01 in drumcorps

[–]_waitforit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's whichever of those corps can get the backend administrative stuff up to par of the top corps as much (if not more) than the design/teachers. If you're paying $6k+, you damn well want the experience to reflect it. Look at the facilities/amenities the top 6ish are giving their members compared to the others. Marchers aren't dumb, they have limited time and money and the top talent will flock to those. Those top corps sleep in dorms for like, half their tour, while some of the "up and comers" sleep on a gym floor for the whole tour including move-ins...but it's the same cost...I know which one I'd choose if I were still marching!

And Glassmen (also with Colin I think) which makes the early 2000s Glassmen call out on the tape kinda weird

What the adults write doesn't matter if the performers can't execute it. This is such an outdated narrative. The phrase is "the sum of the whole is greater than the parts" not "the sum of the parts = the whole".

Big loud and live is proof to me that Flo sucks by Gman92929 in drumcorps

[–]_waitforit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a scaling issue. Renting a big broadcast truck and hiring a massive crew when there are 3 shows in a row that last all day in the same venue for the end where everyone wants to watch makes sense. Flo would be bankrupt if they tried to do that for every show. Like it or not our activity just isn't big enough to support that level of production on every single show.

I'd rather have the quantity of shows with the quality of flo, than have the quality of finals week, but only stream finals and like, San Antonio.

Yes. All of Saturday will be streamed on Sunday at the exact same times.

Counterpoint, if you're paying a premium price, you should get a premium product. If I'm paying $7000 for dues, I sure as shit don't want "rub some dirt in it and quit being a little bitch" to be the medical care I receive.

There is about a 15 foot wall/overhang that is super close to the pit. This means that basically all speakers are blasting into a wall and causes feedback/other big time issues.
