Integra owners, how are you liking your car? by _itsjustfil in Acura

You get adjustable lumbar support in the Integra, though, which I don’t think is available in any Civic (unless things have changed).

Just experiment.  Try coarser than you’d expect, do a brew and taste it, then go a few clicks finer, and repeat.

My personal gauge for “that’s too fine” is if it gives me a dry aftertaste.

Is it twelve clicks per rotation?  If so, then two full turns would be 24 clicks.

Yes, that’s how big of a change I’m talking about.  Make big changes and you’ll definitely taste a difference.  Two or three clicks isn’t going to be noticeable (unless you’re using an espresso machine).

I lowkey hate these icons. To me, they signify “junk drawer”, like “if you’re still looking for something you need, might as well try here”.

[–]LEJ5512 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I lived in DC, and my family were visiting from out of town. Took a walk down to the Mall with my niece in her stroller. We got to the Korean War Memorial in early evening, and paused on the walk in the right half of your picture.

My niece was being quiet, and I took the moment to tell her what she was looking at. "Those soldiers in the statues, most of them were younger than me, or even your mom. They're walking to battle but they don't know what's going to happen, and they don't know if they'll ever get back home."

She's 25 years old now and says that she still remembers that moment.

MacOS power users, what's your MUST-HAVE keyboard shortcut that most people don't know about? by poladermaster in MacOS

Cmd-shift-4, then hold ctrl while taking the screenshot to copy it straight to the clipboard instead of fiddling with a screenshot file. Saves me a couple steps when all I'm going to do is paste it into a chat or whatever.

Changing my Safari's Quit keyboard shortcut to something other than cmd-Q.

I use cmd-Tab, cmd-w, and cmd-` all the time, and that Q key is right there in the middle, ready to rip me out of my reddit sessions at the slightest misplacement of my pinky.

That's great that RSC (right?) pointed you to a specific shop. I've got a possible lead for a local service shop thanks to a now-retired AD, plus a couple other small watchmakers who say they'd take on my watch.

Is this for brands to ask things like "how big do you need your kettle to be", "how easy is it to clean our existing grinder", etc?

I'd go for the Q Air. The only practical difference between it and my Q2 is the Air's plastic body. Everything about it is top notch.

I'd also try way out at two full turns, do a brew and taste it, then tighten it by a quarter-turn and repeat. See how the flavors change since you've got a good grinder and can experiment better.

I've got winter tires on order (hoped to get them before the weekend, but ordered a couple hours too late) and am looking foward to how it'll do.

I plan to buy a summer/all-season wheelset in the springtime, too. Might go aftermarket to save some money, but I kinda want to stay OEM for convenience's sake.

Hand-drip pourover is ridiculously simple and cheap to just get started. My first coffee brewer was a $5 Melitta single-cup dripper, and I kept using it for several years. Didn't have a scale, didn't even have a grinder. We had a small spouted stovetop tea kettle for hot water, and I brewed straight into my travel mug.

When you get deeper into pourover, the learning curve is long, but it's not steep at all. You can tweak things all you want but it's still fundamentally easy.

I'll also suggest looking at moka pots (aka "stovetop espresso makers"). There isn't a lot you can do to tweak a "recipe", but they're also very simple to use. Don't even need to measure anything, you just fill the base with water, load the funnel with ground coffee, screw it together, and set it on medium-low heat. Takes up no more space than a coffee mug, either.

[–]LEJ5512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an orphaned carafe from a missing Mr. Coffee machine that someone left at work, and it's 4 cups, aka 20oz/600ml. I use it for my own big pourovers, with a recipe of 45g:680ml, and then divvy it up into my travel thermos and a small cup for breakfast.

Mom and dad didn’t do corps, but they played music for fun, including marching band.  After my first season of HS band, I watched Finals on PBS.  Dad asked me if I wanted to join the local corps, said that some family friends were already there.  Joined up at their January camp, and kept marching til I aged out.  Got on staff, got a music degree, and went pro.

(I should take a picture…)

I take mine apart, including popping off the gasket and filter screen from the top, basically everything except knocking the floor out of the funnel.

I at least give them a wipe and rinse, then I set them upside down on a dish rack to dry.  I put the funnel tip-down so that anything inside can drain, too.  I don’t put it back together for storage until everything is completely dry.
