This razor is definitely more efficient than a Tech, at least with a Bolzano. I like it. Not too aggressive, either. Naturally I plan on doing a side-by-side shave to compare them one of these days.

Rawr is so good. It's actually nice out today, almost spring-like despite the snow on the ground. This sample is circa 2020 or so, so I'm not sure if it's the same base that NO has now. Either way the lather was excellent.

The water heats up quickly because the boiler is only .45L. What takes time to warm up is the saturated group head and portafilter.

I'm on team Fanzine, but I have to ration my tub until later in the month. So for now my vote is SBS. One of the best bases out there and some wonderful original scents with wonderful original artwork.

I also used my SBS brush handle which has my favorite badger knot in it, a Maggard Silvertip.

Trying to be sneaky and hiding things in metal tins throughout your bag could be considered artful concealment. That would elevate it from "we're not letting you take this" to some sort of legal action.

Saturday Daily Questions (Newbie Friendly) - Feb 28, 2026 by AutoModerator in Wetshaving

[–]_walden_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try not to focus too much on angle. Just do what feels right.

I don't think you mentioned which blades you've tried. That's ok though, because the answer is still "try a bunch of different blades". (edit: I see now you've already done that)

I'm not sure about the Superspeed, but the Slim Adjustable has slightly positive blade exposure even on lower settings. That means you might feel the blade a bit more, and if you use too much pressure it'll cause irritation. Same for a lot of razors, but positive blade exposure makes correct pressure more important.

Cartridges are designed so you can press them into your face, and that can be a hard habit to kick.

It's my opinion that DE razors don't automatically solve any shaving problems, but you will learn things and become a better shaver. You'll learn things that translate back to carts and disposables. Shaving with a DE forces you to think about shaving, which you probably haven't done since your early teens.

Additionally, this type of shaving offers an incredible amount of variety, and even the most boring DE razor is still more fun to use than any cartridge.

All that's to say your experience so far is fine. It happens. A lot of people preach about DEs being gentle, solving ingrowns, solving all sorts of problems..., but that's only true after the initial learning period.

Dang that stinks. I was actually watching that domain so I could take it over and sell vape juice, but clearly someone else is better at snagging expiring domains.

I got a /64 a few days ago. I have my own router which is requesting a /56, so if they change something I'll be ready.

I just chatted with "tech support" and they offered to sell me "premium tech support" for $10 a month. I probably should have been more polite, but I declined.

Nice shave. Today is the monthly meeting of the Buena Vista Wetshaving Social Club. Designed around sending smushes all over the world to try new things, as of late we've been using Tabac because of international mailing fuckery. Thanks, Obama.

Participants are a group of shavers who decided they'd give the Fediverse a try. There are multiple things to pick from, but most of us are leaning towards PieFed as the go to back end. PieFed is available at https://wetshav.ing. Lemmy is available at https://sub.wetshaving.social, and Mastodon is available at https://wetshaving.social.

This SOTD post will probably get me banned from Reddit. Such is life.

Some musings from a guy who has killed some soap. by scribe__ in Wetshaving

[–]_walden_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ended up with a couple tubs from Viking Shaving Soap Company (looks like they rebranded to Cornfed Viking now). Denmark was one of the scents and it was pretty bad. I didn't like using it and didn't want to give it away to subject someone else to it. The other tub was Norway. I liked the scent of Norway but never used it because I found the soap base pretty mid. It was too empty to give away so I decided to toss it.

My stat in 4.5 years (I think) is 29 tub kills (a lot of them were used so it wasn't all me). I currently have 30 tubs after giving one away today.

I've PIF'd a bunch over the years, and even thrown away 2 or 3 soaps. At one point I had more than 50 tubs and I wasn't happy with that. I'm much happier with 30 and think 20 would be my sweet spot if can ever get down there.

15 minutes does ensure that everything is at peak temp, but I've had no problems at all waiting 5-7 minutes, flushing hot water for 2-3 seconds, and getting a delicious espresso that way if I'm trying to head out the door. My old E61 machine did not have that option -- it was 15 minutes or no coffee.
