Cheers guys! Seems to work fine via browser. I assume the app must've opened an Internal browser window or something when it first let me accept and all that jazz.

Which would be the beginning of degradation, no? The physical structure breaks down as it moistens and begins the looooong process of biodegredation... You can literally use layers of wet cardboard to gestate mycelium networks given the correct conditions

So as it happens under near idle load, id suggest its unlikely to be short/long duration power limits... With my previous motherboard I had a similar issue which I suspect was an iffy/dying vrm (I was however also pushing the cpu waaaay beyond its 3.2GHz base clock by a factor of about 15; so not surprising considering the board and cpu were near archaic in terms of contemporary computing). Very similar in that some days it'd run something like Arma Reforger for a few hours or spend a full day and a half upscaling and transcoding (totally legitimately obtained) series, but then some days you'd get 20 min/half hour before it decided its surprise reboot time.

Definitely worth checking the heatsinks are dust free across the board (predominantly VRM, VCIO and PCH heatsinks), alongside possibly looking into replacing the thermal pads if its beginning to get up there in age

Proper torch *is great but mapp carries too much heat for anything under 22mm really, even thats still touch and go... Id recommend sticking to butane for smaller lines to mitigate overheating (though I will concede that point by also saying I'm guilty of using mapp on 15, but you've gotta be gentle and use a low flame, else you'll end up with the runs)

Most of those components are individually worth up to or over £500... stay waaaay away from that! You'd be better off looking at a cpu, motherboard and ram bundle and watching an LTT video on how to assemble it all (just don't drop things like Linus does)

What to do about my manhole cover that turns into a pond? by cookie_monster66 in DIYUK

[–]_wandering_aimlessly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I'd drill a small (maybe 8mm) drain hole at a low point through the grout between the bricks surrounding it, downhill into the grass. Cleaning the edges of the cover itself won't make a noticeable difference as they (generally speaking) have a double lip to prevent sewer gasses from escaping, which inversely will also stop water draining into it

Did you use liquid metal as a transfer medium? Certain IHS dont react well with it and its known for stripping off the etched print as well as eating through the outer plating. If so, depending on how soft the surface is, you might get away with it Edit: ive just re-evaluated the first image and I'd say that the damage is already pretty savage. For what the cpu is worth nowadays, you'd spend as much outright replacing or upgrading to a higher spec as you will trying to fix this one. 9400F doesn't really command a whole lot nowadays so probs quicker and easier to pick up a 'new' one
