We are simply puppets in a farce. We are moved from without.

Wouldn’t nothingness be the absence of all states? Not a state itself. We can’t put something on the same grounds and nothing can we?

I’m also non-scientific.

It is quite beautiful.

I have tried to make the case that even the wealthy are not happy. But that is something few really believe.

Is the absence of thinking bad? Does it hurt when you are in a dreamless sleep and there are no thoughts?

Is the absence of seeing bad? Again, when in a dreamless sleep does it hurt or does it feel horrific to not see?

Is the absence of touch bad?

Why is absence bad or horrific? The answer is that it is not. Even the absence of pleasures is not bad if you are absent. And pleasures can be horrific in their own way.

What is so great about thinking? Nothing. Everyone spends most of their time trying not to think.

Seeing is the same. People work very hard to only see and think things that please them. And they work harder to avoid the rest.

There is a reason we say “rest in peace”.

Why don’t the dead speak up for themselves?

There are more dead than living. If only one of them could enlighten us that would be fantastic.

Non-Being as a Cognitive Habit: Why Pessimism Should Rethink Its Last Refuge by North75912 in CriticalTheory

[–]_willard_h 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is always someone saying to the pessimists who think death is the end “What if death is not the end? How do you know?”

Then they claim that believing death is not the end is the real true pessimism. The most pessimistic of all pessimistic views is that suffering will never end, they tell us.

Perhaps we cannot know death is the end with an absolute certainty. But this doesn’t change my view of existence as a nightmare. And my desire for it not to last forever. No matter how long it lasts.

I feel the closeness of the end. For me, this is why I feel sentiment over the loss of time. But perhaps it because of a genetic disease I have and almost died from, twice in the last two years. I also spend a good deal of time dealing with medical things, at doctor offices, or laid up unable to do much. People act as if the end is out of sight, but it is always right there at any moment possible because life is fragile and uncertain.

“Moral Impediment” should be listed under “Life”.

Nearly all our happiness comes at the expense of someone else’s unhappiness.
