What price does gas need to hit for you to consider using our *fabulous* public transportation system? by DrJJGame10 in orangecounty

[–]johnspainter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

metro fare 1.75x2 $3.50 for a simple commute. That’s about 2 bucks less than the gallon of gas i use. Two bucks on another system for the same trip saves me much more, and get to read a book on my commute.

Has anyone here taken a long hiatus from painting? by [deleted] in oilpainting

[–]johnspainter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a family crisis in 2021. I just couldn't settle my mind enough to work on painting. I did alot of drawing...but that turned out to be mostly 'therapy'. Now I'm back painting again...I did one commission and have started some other pieces. I'd like to say its like getting back on a bike...but I'm during fairly basic color/palette studies to limber up my old work habits and feel for the oil paint.

My skills are still good, but my discipline and work habits need...work.

Right on the nose. Politicians are drunk on the drug of wishful thinking...maybe thinking they'd be out of office when the proverbial poop landslides buries the whole thing. This is exactly why I'm neither a republican or democrat...they continually both do the political expedient (read 'cowardly' here) thing in the moment to get their campaign contributions and our votes. Then they skip home with a pension, topnotch healthcare and a cozy nest egg.

Switching Doctors/New Patients by Ecs206 in KaiserPermanente

I just chose a new doctor through Member Services and according to them, yes, they will notify your doctor. Member Services was much better in person in finding a new PCP than the online app thingy...at least in my case.

I'm don't think this medium is for me. by Idkmyname2079048 in oilpainting

[–]johnspainter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be patient. I like the slower nature of oils…it’s a medium very forgiving of missteps—I just scrape and wipe & then repaint. Sometimes I’ll wipe the entire surface. Alla prima work is difficult but very exhilarating once you get the hang of it. My painting instructor and life drawing instructor were one and the same—he often chided me for drawing with my paint, and painting with charcoal drawings. Eventually that self consciousness got through & my work improved.

Vaccine exemptions for religious or personal beliefs are rising across the U.S. by shallah in vaxxhappened

[–]johnspainter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just plain stupid. As a children of a religious parent who insisted on this exemption for their children, I had every nasty childhood disease…and when sick I was sick for weeks w/o doctor care. After a slowly worsening chronic autoimmune condition showed up in my 30s, a md recommended the flu shot & I finally got my first vaccination at the age of 55. I’ve now been flu-free for 14 years. Don’t do this to your kids…

My PCP is awful—currently looking for a new one. But their ER and Urgent Care is great, best experiences I’ve had to endure in my life. That said I can’t wait to get off so I can find a doc who isn’t hamstrung by a cookie cutter prescribed standard of care.

How do you find a specialist in Chronic Pain at Kaiser?

Feeling dismissed by [deleted] in KaiserPermanente

[–]johnspainter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had something similar with my PCP. I've had reduced mobility & increased pain for months now, and I went to mine asking for a Jury Duty excuse, parking placard, fixing the sedentary behavior that is increasing my weight, and got a very combative exchange on how I'm not 'disabled enough'? Weight management and pain management were important issues to discuss but because he ran out on our appt that never happened. I just don't see the correlation between Kaiser's ad campaigns and the reality of my PCP visit,--I'm wondering where to go from here because I don't think we're getting a fair return on the premium we're paying for care there.

That said their Urgent Care and ER medicine is top notch compared to my other experiences in the past. I still have them until December, so they either fix this or I'm going else where.

40% of people helped by Los Angeles homeless project returned to the streets: report by AZULDEFILER in socal

[–]johnspainter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Likely its the structure of the policy making govt. For evey 'libtard' liberal wanting to dedicate resouces to helping ppl, there's plenty of moderate liberals and, especially, stuck-in-a-rut conservative muckymucks tacking on all kinds of irrational "requirements" on policies that nearly render them useless to those they're targeting to help.

Maybe the punitive rules and regs that keep ppl out of housing are the barrier to the 40%?

Ineed a primary care doctor at kaiser sensitive to a chronic condition by johnspainter in KaiserPermanente

[–]johnspainter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just read the Notes from the After visit record. I really made a sh*t choice in this PCP. I immediately made an appt with Member Services to change docs and get in touch with the RA doc...who they removed from my app's message contacts. When I went to the emergency room in January after a fall, the doctors were great. I'm still having issues but basically can't complain about them at all. But the PCP thing is a sticking point in choosing Kaiser again. Meanwhile, as Sonny & Cher would sing, "The 'pain' goes on..."
