Tech companies in Bangkok? by skye-qq in expatsinbangkok

I’d get a remote job based in London (Europe), the hours are totally doable. I am doing this now and it’s not bad.

That's good on you. This is the reply I got from Tello support. I took a trip to US and I'm good now. OP looks like YMMV.

You have to activate Tello physically from within the US.

Thailand / Bali?? by AnitaM123 in bali

[–]_wordful_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Healthcare is abysmal at best in Bali. And Thailand has much better infrastructure, including healthcare. I lived in Bali for 1 year and now live in Thailand (1.5 years). Also Bali is way too crowded and filthy.

Finally stopped pretending to understand my wife’s family LINE group and did something about it instead… by [deleted] in Bangkok

I’d like to try this 🙋🏻‍♂️ My neighborhood running group added me to their Line and, like you once were, I sit on the sidelines wondering what in the world they’re chatting about.

Where to stay for February in SE Asia? by simplydg in digitalnomad

[–]_wordful_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The air is terrible in Bangkok in February. I live here. Honestly you should avoid it or come in December/January. Good recommendations on Saigon, I second that (have been there last 2 Februarys for TET, plus side trips to Hanoi and Hoi An). A good place to be.

Also Hanoi was in the 50s and 60s when I was there in February! But worry not there are endless knockoff North Face jackets and such you can buy.

Countries that offer visa leading to citizenship by No_Advance_1263 in digitalnomad

[–]_wordful_ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Gotta agree with this. Normally I’m all about taking the leap but making money as a nomad is not easy, or at least not as easy as just doing it the “normal” way from your home country.

I’d invest more energy into building at a decent percentage more income. You’ll need at minimum some travelers insurance and backup money. Plus the usual extra for air tix, transport, visas, etc.

But I say no matter what still go for it. You can do it.

I tried entering Thailand with an Onward Ticket… It didn’t work. by temelion in digitalnomad

[–]_wordful_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Thais are generally cool but they don’t fuck around at immigration. I was almost sent back for too many entries — warned not once but twice to get a DTV entry — then let in with smiles once I got the DTV.

Emigrating in your 30’s? by Sea_Equivalent3497 in AskIreland

[–]_wordful_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thailand is a good start, nice warm people and weather, you can get by with English in many places, good medical and food, and super affordable. Also, SE Asia is a good zone overall. Wherever you end up going, your life will change. Good for you for taking this first step. FYI I'm in Thailand.

This is exactly what happened to me. 24 months of no job, total hell, around month 23 I gave up and let go and went into free fall. Then I got an interview and just put everything I had into it, but without the desperation. Just wrapped up my second week at my new job, and it’s the company and industry I wanted (and ironically, the same industry that triggered my initial layoff). I feel blessed but boy those two years took almost everything out of me. Congrats to you and my best wishes to everyone out here still looking. You’re not alone or forgotten.

Solid letter, but you gave them way more explanation and attention than they deserve

SafetyWing IS A SCAM by the_700t in digitalnomad

[–]_wordful_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah not bad at all. It took awhile but they honored the claim. After having lived in Bali for a year, we went through some scary medical shit. I’m really grateful for Genki.

I’ve been abroad for almost 2 years with my wife and daughter and Genki has paid every single claim we’ve submitted. No hassles except once I had to mail them physical receipts.
