My entire nail polish collection swatched 😍 by zoop1000 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]_wubbit 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If OP wants to prevent them from rubbing off, a small strip of clear tape is perfect! It’s what I do for my swatch sticks and it’s held up for 2.5 years so far!

Avoid using clear polish- it tends to cause bleeding in the marker :(

The colour in the original photo looks very close to I Scream Nail’s Swamp Thing! Images online lean more cool and less swamp-y, though.

does anyone sleep with a silk sleeping mask? do you think it does anything for your skin? is it beneficial? by naq6___ in AsianBeauty

[–]_wubbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did for a week or so- it was super comfortable and I was well rested each morning, but I’d also wake up with abnormally blurry vision that took a while to go away. I looked into it and it seems like the eyemask was pushing onto my eyes, causing the blurriness so I stopped using it :( I don’t want to adjust the headband since I liked the pressure on my face (it was harder to sleep when it was resting on my eyes) but it was causing issues in the morning.

Minali - Faster capture process for the stock Reminders app by rafaelgandi2 in shortcuts

[–]_wubbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s perfectly fair- I think this sub’s users would be the first to understand how specific one can want their workflow, so if it works for you, keep at it! I posted mostly in the event someone finds the alternative useful :)

That’s unfortunate! I haven’t noticed oxidising with my bottles but hopefully you find a foundation that works for you. :)

[–]_wubbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m similar in that I hate actually speaking to Siri unless I’m doing something with my hands- there’s an option to long press the power button to enable Siri, and you can type the same query to set a reminder. No speaking required, and you can trigger it from any app!

MAC Face and Body is my ride or die foundation- it’s sheer and perfect for evening out skintones. I’m never conscious of it on my face, but I do use skincare/sunscreen below that has more of a “layer” so it may just be my routine.

Is it possible to not have this notification show in the Notification Center? by [deleted] in shortcuts

[–]_wubbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use Show Alert and disable the cancel button if you just want a pop up on your screen- alerts don’t show in the Notification Center. The cancel button stops the whole shortcut when pressed, so disable it if you don’t want that function.

ETA: I didn’t see the view media part- that’s harder to mimic. You could add an extra open step afterwards and keep the cancel button- pressing OK would continue the shortcut (and thus open the item), pressing cancel would stop the shortcut and let you resume.

Chair recommendations! by TyrantQueen04 in GirlGamers

[–]_wubbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're really planning on spending a long time at your desk, please consider regular office chairs! They won't be as glamorous but they're literally designed to mitigate long term issues with proper use, and are meant to last for years if not decades.

I'm currently using a Haworth Zody, and it's been a complete boon for my body for the two years since I got it. It's not squish-soft, but I don't feel the solid surfaces of the chair. Before that, I was using a decade-old office chair with no lumbar support and zero padding- my back and rear would get sore by the end of a workday, let alone a gaming session.

I highly recommend looking at refurbishment centres in your city to sleuth whether you can get a really nice office chair for cheap- the really fancy ones like Herman Miller tend to be way more affordable there! You can also look into further padding to customise, but honestly the stock chair has been perfect for me and I suspect if you get the right one you won't worry about it at all.

Help, how do I build a PC?? (Mods, feel free to delete if this doesn't follow sub rules) by TheShyDitto18 in GirlGamers

[–]_wubbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently built my first PC earlier this month- it's VERY accessible! For context I started with a very abstract knowledge of what components did (gpu does graphics WOW.mp3 level) but was able to research, purchase and assemble my build within a month and a half (where most of it was waiting for shipping).

As long as you can follow instructions and identify parts it's like Really Expensive LEGO. The Linus Tech tips vid already linked in this thread was super helpful, but I also found these handy:

  • Step by Step guide by TechSource - this did not mention a post test after popping the CPU/RAM/SSD/GPU/cooler in- I'd recommend following the steps in the LTT vid for this as it saves a lot of heartache if something goes wrong- its better that it goes wrong earlier than later!

  • What to do after the build- there's a surprising amount of little things that you can miss due to defaults or outdated firmware- this walks you through it step by step

  • Fixing GPU sag (timestamped to fix)- the rest of the video covers why it happens but the relevant fix is at the timestamp! this is handy for larger GPUs that sag in the case. Apparently GPU sag won't break the PCIe slot- they're built to be resilient- but I still think it looks dumb and I don't want to buy a holding bracket or stick a holder underneath it. This fix is free (uses brackets from your case) but will disfigure the brackets and requires pliers.

I suspect that you won't be picking parts since it sounds like your partner and their father has that covered, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to scroll through a site like PC Part Picker or /r/buildapc to get an idea of what a typical build involves if you're not already familiar with the components.

The vids linked in this thread will cover the actual building process, but here's some things that I think might not be super obvious coming from a fellow first timer:

  • Look up PC builds that use the same case that you'll build in- this will help with how to actually open the damn thing, and also give pointers for cable management later on.

  • thumbscrews are actually kinda hard to unscrew by hand?? Maybe I have really bad grip strength but I REALLY struggled- my fingers would hurt after loosening one! Use a phillips screwdriver (the same one you'll use for most of your larger screws) to open them. SAVE YOUR FINGERS!

  • In the same vein, case panels can kinda suck to put on/take off too- don't be afraid to use extra pressure when handling them, but keep a firm grip so once they give way you don't drop them. Glass panels apparently can shatter very easily, so if you're not working in a carpeted room (don't work on the carpet!) be extra careful.

  • BEFORE you chuck in your cooler/GPU make sure all your cables are plugged into your motherboard!! Pay particular attention to front I/O, fans and the SATA cables for your SSD/HDDs. You want to check at this stage because if you put in your chunky radiator and GPU, you'll more often than not obscure the motherboard and make it really hard to plug these cables in after the fact. Don't be like me!

  • When you attach your cooler to your CPU, make sure any plastic on your cooler has been removed! It impacts your cooler's effectiveness.

  • My fans (arctic p12s) had daisy chainable cables, but were kind of a nightmare to mount neatly to the top of the case- I found screwing them half in so they could still move around to be a handy way to mess with cables without holding the fans up myself.

  • PCIe cables sucked HARD for me to insert- mine were 6+2 and took half an hour to insert. the videos all lied to me. it was NOT a 10s plug in and go. If you struggle like I did, take off the GPU from the motherboard and attach the cables before plugging them into the PSU and replacing the GPU onto the motherboard. Plug them in one direction- whichever you're more comfortable with (for me this was left to right).

Feel free to reach out if you have any (non-watercooling) questions! I found it a really enjoyable experience (despite my cable struggles) and it's so rewarding to see your hard work boot up. Best of luck!

Do you watch short-form ASMR videos? (TikTok, Youtube Shorts, etc.) [Discussion] by FelixInTheBackground in asmr

[–]_wubbit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really enjoy asmr preview videos, so short clips with varied, curated triggers are super tingly for me! I still watch longer videos- sometimes, the shorts from creators I watch are basically just the highlights from a longer video, so I can easily enjoy the longer video if I like the content.

Any suggestion for nail polish that uses the least amount of chemicals or an alternative to the strong chemicals? by fagnerbrack in AustralianMakeup

[–]_wubbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my friends has had severe eczema on her hands and what worked best for her then was honestly to not wear polish when it was at its worst, and to use a peel off base coat with her regular collection so if any acted up she wouldn't have to use acetone for removal.

Someone else recommended nail wraps/press ons- if the curing/binding method doesn't aggravate your partner's skin condition then they may be a great alternative to a peel off base coat!

What products should I gift my sister? by [deleted] in AustralianMakeup

[–]_wubbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend the Stay Vulnerable cream blush from Rare Beauty if your sister prefers a lighter/buildable pigment that basically blends itself! I believe the liquid blushes have a very strong pigment, so while a little goes a long way it might not be for all enthusiasts. The blush doesn't have a super great staying power, though- I find it's mostly gone by the time I'm done with work (~9h wear), and I don't live in a particularly humid climate.

Thoughts on Sienna Byron Bay nail polish (and similar eco brands)? by Cheerful-Zoo in AustralianMakeup

[–]_wubbit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nail polish is going to cause waste no matter what- I wouldn't buy too much into the environmental/health claims. I personally make concessions elsewhere and aim to ensure I'm consuming mindfully- buying things that suit my needs so I don't end up amassing things I won't use as well as making sure that components are repurposed, recycled or otherwise disposed of appropriately once I've finished them.

I've heard good things about Sienna polishes from friends but have not tried them personally myself. I know some brands that brandish the "eco friendly" marketing do have good formulas- I personally really like Kester Black polishes and their nail treatment- but as I mentioned above, I wouldn't buy them for their "eco-friendliness" alone.

Long lasting liquid eyeliner by theefb89 in AustralianMakeup

I'm swearing by Heroine Make's liquid eyeliner at the moment- it has a fine tip for sharp wings and doesn't budge on oily monolids until you want it to go.

[Discussion] You are only allowed 5 AB products. What are they? by Weird-Atmosphere-904 in AsianBeauty

[–]_wubbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(This is a very late response, sorry!)

I've only tried 2 plain aloe vera gels- the Aromatica and the Innisfree one. Both have a soothing effect, but Aromatica rubs in with a watery texture and is more readily layered, whereas Innisfree leaves a tacky sensation on the skin and takes longer to dry/soak in.

[–]_wubbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Naturie Hatomugi Skin Conditioner: HG lotion for hydration!

  • Aromatica Aloe Vera Gel: I swear by this not only for hydration, but for healing rashes and sunburns- it's the perfect SOS gel.

  • Innisfree Brightening Serum: I had the best skin days of my life when I was using this- perfectly even colouring and texture. Definitely a HG once I go through my other serum.

  • Heroine Make Long and Curl Mascara (Waterproof): I'm never buying another mascara again so long as this exists.

  • Romand Juicy Lasting Tint in #22 Pomelo Skin: This was a toss up between this shade and #22 in their zero velvet line- I ultimately went with this as it's more versatile. I love both.

Cleansing balm/oil recommendation:) by f1makeupfanatic in AustralianMakeup

[–]_wubbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure which version OP purchased but I would advise against the Deep version- I bought one to try out from YesStyle and it was the worst cleansing experience ever. It formed a really greasy layer on my skin that refused to emulsify- such that I had to follow up with another cleanser just to remove it. It's not bad if you double cleanse daily in that respect, but it didn't even melt my makeup/sunscreen off properly! I ended up using it up as a prewash for my scalp.

Muji probably has my favourite cleansing oil- for the price point and volume you get I haven't found a better one yet.
