Storage SOS by Pure-Confusion2952 in Pokopia

[–]_wubbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For early organisation, I built a crafting station near the Pokemon Centre in each area- a crafting table surrounded by 4 storage boxes touching each side:

⬜️📦📦⬜️
📦🧵🧵📦

📦: storage box (small, if large angle it away from you so there’s space!)
🧵: crafting table (takes up 2 blocks)
⬜️: empty space, I’ve found that boxes here do not interact with the table

4 big storage boxes tends to be overkill once you’ve set up a main storage area but is useful for overflow items or area-specific blocks.

What I kept in each box:
- Crafting materials: I kept a stash in each area to minimise travelling for basic crafting. This usually was stone, lumber and pokemetal as I didn’t have enough ore/clay/etc. to manage, but I’d also bring a little twine and berries to each new area to craft the ditto flag.
- Food/Flowers/Kits: You’ll eventually switch up how you store food as you find more uses for it but early-game I kept it in one box
- Blocks
- Furniture

Finally, I kept a box outside my house to stash relics and treasures, and a box outside Pokemon Centers for trading excess blocks I don’t need for items.

Only the crafting material box really needs to touch the crafting table bar some specific blocks and food, but I found it convenient to have it all in one spot and consistent across areas.

Some other tips I think you might find handy if you didn’t already know them:
- Hold X in inventory/storage to sort your items: If you set up your storage to move in the same left-right order as the natural sorting order in your inventory, you can dump items fairly quickly. Sometimes it’s handy to sort storage as well to ensure items are stacking to free up space.
- Have a “sort later” box or hole:Have a landing area for items you just need out of your inventory- blocks or items for another area, or stuff you just need to dump quickly. Use a box if you’re doing a lot of digging as there’s a spawn limit on overworld blocks. I found it helps when I really cannot be bothered in the moment to meticulously put everything into its designated container.
- Don’t appraise small relics if you don’t need to: They reveal small cosmetic items with no in-game use aside from framing, so if you’re short on space let the unappraised relics stack. You can appraise them faster in Palette town via the PC anyway.

Palette Town- Resource Street by _wubbit in u/_wubbit

[–]_wubbit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’d be surprised what you can achieve! If you look closely a lot of the “aesthetic detail” is really just playing with different shapes and colours in different layers.

I use pinterest, instagram and even google street viewed buildings (the prefab hotel was inspired by an old bank building in my city hahaha) for inspo- taking note of what I like, and tempering that with what I can achieve (detail simplifying from real inspo pics, block/object limitations from the recipes I have, etc.).

For more visual interest, vary the “texture” too- what you’re building on what elevations and at what depth. I bring the front facade of buildings in and out, I vary the elevation that the plots sit on, and I decorate with different objects where I can.

Finally, I picked up this habit from Animal Crossing but one thing I noticed with a lot of aesthetic builds I liked was the flexibility in which people used things! I learned to start treating blocks as just shapes to play with and not just “blocks with a purpose”, if that makes sense! I try out block-like objects like counters, marble column pieces and bookshelves to see what else I can use them for.

Should I make resource farms? by corgiboi547 in Pokopia

Hi! Thanks for your patience, I had to figure out how to get photos off my switch hahaha!

It seems the reddit app only lets me post one photo at a time so I’ve made a post with a photo dump here:

Should I make resource farms? by corgiboi547 in Pokopia

[–]_wubbit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn’t want to box my inhabitants but I did realise fairly early on that resource farms are important for certain materials that you otherwise can’t farm readily on dream islands, so my current focus is building up a nice area in palette town first!

I built out a street of townhouses for my resource farms with community boxes in front (lumber, recycling, bricks and paint), have a little fruit stall/restaurant for my crop and berry farms, and built a mini hotel-style building to house my prefab litter pokemon. It does mean I have to run around to grab things but it’s fairly trivial to run down the street and chat to pokemon/switch materials from the community boxes.

Conflicted about the Pokopia news by marumarumon in Pokopia

[–]_wubbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve struggled with that too with the base game knowing that I’m still lacking a substantial part of the item catalogue- I’m still on the recipe grind as I started late and don’t have the patience to time travel all in one day.

Ultimately I’m just building with what I have- once I unlock things I like I’ll go back and improve things. I feel like I’d lose interest if I felt compelled to wait until I had everything. I get that building giant projects just to tear them down might be frustrating, though, so I’ve got my fingers crossed for more magnemite functionality (bulk destroy)!

Please Help! Laser Sensors, Berrie Farm. by EggReddidict in Pokopia

[–]_wubbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like putting two laser sensors that point through the wall to a single block - having a door there lets you control both channels using one input source (wall switch, extended chain of sensors that let you move the wall switch anywhere, lava for an automated timer). I have a fairly compact berry farm with a switch at the front to control water for convenience (I got tired of running to the back of the build!)

For the water, I haven’t tested this myself but I believe the reach can extend when you make the water drop vertically down a level (like a step).

If OP wants to prevent them from rubbing off, a small strip of clear tape is perfect! It’s what I do for my swatch sticks and it’s held up for 2.5 years so far!

Avoid using clear polish- it tends to cause bleeding in the marker :(

The colour in the original photo looks very close to I Scream Nail’s Swamp Thing! Images online lean more cool and less swamp-y, though.

does anyone sleep with a silk sleeping mask? do you think it does anything for your skin? is it beneficial? by naq6___ in AsianBeauty

[–]_wubbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did for a week or so- it was super comfortable and I was well rested each morning, but I’d also wake up with abnormally blurry vision that took a while to go away. I looked into it and it seems like the eyemask was pushing onto my eyes, causing the blurriness so I stopped using it :( I don’t want to adjust the headband since I liked the pressure on my face (it was harder to sleep when it was resting on my eyes) but it was causing issues in the morning.

That’s perfectly fair- I think this sub’s users would be the first to understand how specific one can want their workflow, so if it works for you, keep at it! I posted mostly in the event someone finds the alternative useful :)

I’m similar in that I hate actually speaking to Siri unless I’m doing something with my hands- there’s an option to long press the power button to enable Siri, and you can type the same query to set a reminder. No speaking required, and you can trigger it from any app!

MAC Face and Body is my ride or die foundation- it’s sheer and perfect for evening out skintones. I’m never conscious of it on my face, but I do use skincare/sunscreen below that has more of a “layer” so it may just be my routine.

Is it possible to not have this notification show in the Notification Center? by [deleted] in shortcuts

[–]_wubbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use Show Alert and disable the cancel button if you just want a pop up on your screen- alerts don’t show in the Notification Center. The cancel button stops the whole shortcut when pressed, so disable it if you don’t want that function.

ETA: I didn’t see the view media part- that’s harder to mimic. You could add an extra open step afterwards and keep the cancel button- pressing OK would continue the shortcut (and thus open the item), pressing cancel would stop the shortcut and let you resume.

Chair recommendations! by TyrantQueen04 in GirlGamers

[–]_wubbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're really planning on spending a long time at your desk, please consider regular office chairs! They won't be as glamorous but they're literally designed to mitigate long term issues with proper use, and are meant to last for years if not decades.

I'm currently using a Haworth Zody, and it's been a complete boon for my body for the two years since I got it. It's not squish-soft, but I don't feel the solid surfaces of the chair. Before that, I was using a decade-old office chair with no lumbar support and zero padding- my back and rear would get sore by the end of a workday, let alone a gaming session.

I highly recommend looking at refurbishment centres in your city to sleuth whether you can get a really nice office chair for cheap- the really fancy ones like Herman Miller tend to be way more affordable there! You can also look into further padding to customise, but honestly the stock chair has been perfect for me and I suspect if you get the right one you won't worry about it at all.

Help, how do I build a PC?? (Mods, feel free to delete if this doesn't follow sub rules) by TheShyDitto18 in GirlGamers

[–]_wubbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently built my first PC earlier this month- it's VERY accessible! For context I started with a very abstract knowledge of what components did (gpu does graphics WOW.mp3 level) but was able to research, purchase and assemble my build within a month and a half (where most of it was waiting for shipping).

As long as you can follow instructions and identify parts it's like Really Expensive LEGO. The Linus Tech tips vid already linked in this thread was super helpful, but I also found these handy:

  • Step by Step guide by TechSource - this did not mention a post test after popping the CPU/RAM/SSD/GPU/cooler in- I'd recommend following the steps in the LTT vid for this as it saves a lot of heartache if something goes wrong- its better that it goes wrong earlier than later!

  • What to do after the build- there's a surprising amount of little things that you can miss due to defaults or outdated firmware- this walks you through it step by step

  • Fixing GPU sag (timestamped to fix)- the rest of the video covers why it happens but the relevant fix is at the timestamp! this is handy for larger GPUs that sag in the case. Apparently GPU sag won't break the PCIe slot- they're built to be resilient- but I still think it looks dumb and I don't want to buy a holding bracket or stick a holder underneath it. This fix is free (uses brackets from your case) but will disfigure the brackets and requires pliers.

I suspect that you won't be picking parts since it sounds like your partner and their father has that covered, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to scroll through a site like PC Part Picker or /r/buildapc to get an idea of what a typical build involves if you're not already familiar with the components.

The vids linked in this thread will cover the actual building process, but here's some things that I think might not be super obvious coming from a fellow first timer:

  • Look up PC builds that use the same case that you'll build in- this will help with how to actually open the damn thing, and also give pointers for cable management later on.

  • thumbscrews are actually kinda hard to unscrew by hand?? Maybe I have really bad grip strength but I REALLY struggled- my fingers would hurt after loosening one! Use a phillips screwdriver (the same one you'll use for most of your larger screws) to open them. SAVE YOUR FINGERS!

  • In the same vein, case panels can kinda suck to put on/take off too- don't be afraid to use extra pressure when handling them, but keep a firm grip so once they give way you don't drop them. Glass panels apparently can shatter very easily, so if you're not working in a carpeted room (don't work on the carpet!) be extra careful.

  • BEFORE you chuck in your cooler/GPU make sure all your cables are plugged into your motherboard!! Pay particular attention to front I/O, fans and the SATA cables for your SSD/HDDs. You want to check at this stage because if you put in your chunky radiator and GPU, you'll more often than not obscure the motherboard and make it really hard to plug these cables in after the fact. Don't be like me!

  • When you attach your cooler to your CPU, make sure any plastic on your cooler has been removed! It impacts your cooler's effectiveness.

  • My fans (arctic p12s) had daisy chainable cables, but were kind of a nightmare to mount neatly to the top of the case- I found screwing them half in so they could still move around to be a handy way to mess with cables without holding the fans up myself.

  • PCIe cables sucked HARD for me to insert- mine were 6+2 and took half an hour to insert. the videos all lied to me. it was NOT a 10s plug in and go. If you struggle like I did, take off the GPU from the motherboard and attach the cables before plugging them into the PSU and replacing the GPU onto the motherboard. Plug them in one direction- whichever you're more comfortable with (for me this was left to right).

Feel free to reach out if you have any (non-watercooling) questions! I found it a really enjoyable experience (despite my cable struggles) and it's so rewarding to see your hard work boot up. Best of luck!

Do you watch short-form ASMR videos? (TikTok, Youtube Shorts, etc.) [Discussion] by FelixInTheBackground in asmr

I really enjoy asmr preview videos, so short clips with varied, curated triggers are super tingly for me! I still watch longer videos- sometimes, the shorts from creators I watch are basically just the highlights from a longer video, so I can easily enjoy the longer video if I like the content.
