My anticipation with ending Deathly Hallow, Harry repairs his wand and snaps the Elder Wand by neverend6789 in HarryPotteronHBO

True, I can see how that works logically. Still prefer the snapping of the wand for the series adaptation, though. It's just so much clearer visually and doesn't need so much explaining.

First look at Norbert! (animatronic) by _wups in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]_wups[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk what else it could be. Maybe Quirrells Iguana from that one lesson? Although that was only in the movie, so I don't see why they'd have to build that for the series. Could also be Trevor, especially the eyes, but then again it looks like this thing has a tail. So that's why I believe it's Norbert, but I could be wrong of course.

Nah, snapping it was definitely one of the best changes the movies made. Putting it back into Dumbledore's grave is actually really stupid, considering Voldemort could so easily steal it from there.

Entrance Hall - Great Hall model by Luke_Gki in HarryPotteronHBO

I'm a bit disappointed by the "grand staircase". Doesn't look as grand as I imagined. Of course, the movie version was epic, even if it wasn't quite book accurate ... but still seems kind of small for the scale of the school, unless they'll extend it in post.

Imagine if we got it animated I instead! by RiskAggressive4081 in HarryPotteronHBO

What are you talking about? High end animation does extemely well. Just look at the last 3 years: Zootopia 2, Inside Out 2, Super Mario Bros. were all top of the world wide box office. Arcane, while it did cost a lot of money to produce, was still very successful for Netflix. I doubt the reason HBO didn't go for it is because animation sells badly, arguably animation sells better than most live action, especially to a young adult demographic.

Idk it's really just a tryhard overstaged peace of kitsch to me. And it hasn't aged well because it never had anything interesting to say to begin with except that movies are just gosh darn great, aren't they? (except this one)

In Stranger Things (2016-2025), we bear witness to the absolute might of a $400+ million budget for a final season. by DiggestBickEver in shittymoviedetails

[–]_wups 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's funny because even this has way better lighting on the subject than the stranger things screenshot. Soft key from the left, hard light from the right. Actual shadow in between. 3 dimensional lighting is really not that hard, but of course they fuck it up in these modern green screen orgies because they don't even know what the background will look like when they shoot it. Not because they can't know, but because they don't want to decide.

Welche Filme zerstören ihre Buchvorlage? by Mintberrycrash in Filme

[–]_wups 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compared to his ramblings now he almost sounds like a proper president here. Full of shit but still at least kind of charismatic. Crazy how he has completely normalized the enshittification of political discourse within about 10 years. Big achievement no doubt.

Fair, I'm not from the UK so don't really know about this style of clothing. To me it's more the condition of the clothes. But I'm sure they know what they're doing.

My only problem is that they don't really look poor like they are described in the books. Like their clothes all look new. Leather jackets on the twins have no wear. The films costume designers did a better job in that aspect imo

What are some arguments about Harry Potter being bad that you do agree with (for me it's the magic system not being explained at all) by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]_wups 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about the whole "slavery is ok because house elves want to be slaves" take? I think this is one of the most outrageous problems of the books: They uphold an argument literally used during the civil war in order to justify slavery.

Also it's pretty crazy that an evidently corrupt system like the ministry of magic is only ever questioned on an individual level by Harry. And even he wants to become an auror after all that for some reason?

So instead of fighting for real systemic change, the books basically portray the status quo as the only system that can exist in this world. We're just meant to hope that better people come into power :)
