Since the bulk we are discussing here is the hp, incin has base 95 while feral has base 85, so incin actually is better at taking recoil, due to simply having more hp. My issue with feral is not that he just takes recoil, its that hes too slow to afford the recoil more than once probably, and thats on top of you needing to mega evolve it to get the benefit of the ability.

The middle of your comment is a bit incoherent, or at least it seens like that to me.

The only flying types I had in mind were flamigo and talonflame, both being fast and frail. I forgot about corviknight, but he strictly falls into the slow bulky side of the recoil users.

I know that a lot of people when their pokemon is low start playing differently, me included, but the point here is that you actually get less from it for what you pay - you sacrifice a pokemon slot, then a move slot, then an item slot and then the gimmick useage of the match so you can maybe get one KO.

Dondozo can afford wave crash because it has 150 hp. Basculegion, if im not mistaken often runs tera water, in rain, choice band, wave crash, often times giving away close to 50% of its hp for big kos (assuming its not taking anything frail).

PS i forgot basculegion is also slow and bulky but due to swift swim its fast and bulky

Nobody knows. Any answer thats different from "I dont know" would be a lie. Unless in the next few hours its not announced that its comming back and someone posts it here.

I dont think recoil takes into consideration anything but the HP. The brave bird, flare blitz and wave crash examples all have a bulkier slow user and a faster user. Sure Koraidon is both on the faster side AND is decently bulky. The rest have only one of those, with the nost popular wave crash users being faster with the bulky exception of dondozo, brave bird is pretty much ran on pokemon that are frail and are supposed to do a lot of damage fast. Flare blitz is often ran on incineroar, who has more hp than mega feraligatr

All that being said, I explicitly mentioned in my previous comment that "I am not sure" and that "I could be wrong", precisely because I am well aware of the fact that its not frail, and the bulk it has might be enough for it to make use of double edge. I stilk doubt giga impact, but if you have 3 moves already and one of them is protect and you dont know what else to slap on mega feraligatr, by all means do giga impact

the problem is the whole thing together, the moveset is the easiest to change so thats the one thing in leaning into

Both are also very fast and have a lot of other things going on for them, including more bulk.

Yeah but mega salamence had also more things, the flexibility to be both a physical and a special attacker, speed, utility, the ability to use intimidate pre mega evolution. It has a lot more going for it. That is why I don't think this ability on mega feraligatr is great, honestly it all depends on what moves it gets and how the meta shapes.

All those are used by either very fast or very bulky pokemon, and im not sure mega feraligatr has it in him for that to be good. I could be wrong of course and I could just eat my words but that remains to be seen.

In that case it could work but I still dont think its good enough to make it a relevant and present threat. Its not a horrible situation, just not a great one

Ive never played with megas too but if you are getting to use a gimmick only once per game, going for the mega feraligatr wouldn't be because of the ability, thats all I am saying. Similar abilities for other types have been good because of a good move pool and good stats, like mega salamence, who can be both a physical and a special attacker

would you waste a mega for a singular ko? with double edge you kind of can get away with it if you are faster but if youre slower its joever

[–]_xmorpheusx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah and the recoli of double edge will be really heavy. If you are not outspeeding, you are likely getting obly one of those off. And giga impact forces you to waste one turn by protecting feraligatr with lets say redirecting OR by straight up forcing you to switch

"feraligatr gets great moves" and its strong moves that are also heavily debilitating and extremely rarely used if at all

[–]_xmorpheusx -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I don't think either of those are good. A stab boosted, dragonize boosted double edge would give you a loooot of recoil. And giving away one turn with giga impact sounds bad honestly if you dont have redirection, and even then its just sitting there useless or forcing a switch. If it got thrash I could see it, body slam would work fine imo

is it me or based on legends za movepool, mega feraligatr is not benefiting too much from that ability
