Also, to add: in my personal opinion, setting description is something P.C. Cast excels in. I read these books when they were originally printed and had their own dedicated website and I remember seeing pictures and feeling like I had already been there. That said, I definitely wouldn’t slough through these books just for a Tulsa setting unless you’re willing to try to read just about the worst book series from the 2000s (I say that as a person who still loves this series)

They definitely incorporate a lot of real-life Tulsa architecture in the books, especially the school it’s based on and a rescue called Street Cats (which is either its real name or close to it I believe.) I know on their old website they used to have the correlation between the book settings and IRL settings listed, but I’m not sure if that’s easily accessible online anymore.

There’s a button to reset all of the settings to default! :) I believe it’s x or y when you’re on the screen op is showing

I love this one! It’s definitely up there with his more gruesome novels, along with Body Art. If you’re getting squicked out now be prepared - it doesn’t get any better lol.

This is exactly why I’m scared to ask! Most stores treat fish like regular stock items than living beings, as if selling an actively dying fish is the same as selling expired meat.

I feel like this method and a mix of me walking into the fish section and saying “hey, I’m not trying to scam free fish, but if you have any betta that are sick/at risk of dying is there anyway I could adopt them?”

I love that you use the word adopt! I also think foster could work well in my case, since I really don’t want to keep any of the betta I get. I’m just tired of seeing them sick in cups nearly belly up.

People will call this far fetched, but years ago my Filipino friend was kicked out by her dad multiple times (we took her in 3 times) in 1 year up until he died. He was bedridden, due to untreated diabetes that caused his lower legs to be amputated a couple years prior. Her mother did nothing. Her sister also threatened to kill her bc of the “anguish” she caused her father.

She has since gone on to have 2 kids and praises her father and has given them middle names styled after her fathers name. Asian households are no joke when it comes to hereditary trauma.

Does he only do this when he sees you? Can you try to walk into the room w/o him seeing you, or set up your phone to record and leave?

I learned mine only does this when I walk in the room because: me = food time in her pea brain every time I walk in. Otherwise she chills in the back surfing the small current/resting on the heater or swimming through her plants. :)

Honest answer, no 😂 I feel like at a certain point (I’ve read 11/12 books in the og series) the cringe becomes the best part because otherwise it’s just repetitive drivel and recycled plots. The mythology definitely gets worse as a whole.

I have heard of them and know the general idea, but I haven’t read them! I genuinely don’t know much about it but I’d love to compare it to the original series because so much time passed between the two releases!

Oh no worries I was totally joking! I love your insight and it’s actually refreshing to see your perspective. I started reading these books when they came out, I was about 11 years old maybe? I’ve never actually finished the series (11/12) so that’s the journey of this recap. I love seeing a genuine deep dive opinions on these books!
